The lesson plan aims to teach 4th grade students how to use context clues to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words. Students will read an excerpt from Roald Dahl's The BFG and use context clues to decide whether unfamiliar words have positive or negative meanings. They will fill out a worksheet and discuss as a class. The teacher will introduce the topic, read the passage and discuss the first word, show a clip from the movie, have students work in groups on the worksheet, and go through the passage again as a class.
