Retrograde

Retrograde planets need to be carefully assessed when evaluating their results. The position of the Sun relative to the retrograde planet should be considered, as it indicates how long the planet will be retrograde. For example, if Saturn is retrograde at 11 degrees in Sagittarius and the Sun has just entered the 6th house from Saturn, Saturn will be retrograde for the next 4 months until it reaches 6 degrees. The planet's characteristics and qualities should be assessed based on its sign position while retrograde, not in previous houses or signs. Some texts state retrograde planets in exaltation act like they are debilitated, and vice versa, but many classics do not support this view.

Retrograde - a careful approach needed

This is my one view only … you may follow your preferences ….

Retrograde planet when you find in any house means you need due care while assessing its
results in its progress… better grossly calculate from Sun position it take time to come in direct
motion.

Suppose you find Sa retrograde in 1H in Sg sign at 11dg and Sun just enter 6H to Sa. This
means Sa will be retrograde for next 4 months say up to 6Dg and then after four months will
came to direct motion from 6dg onwards. So when you see the progress result of Sa say in 8H
then it will be after 47&1/2 + 4months years to 50+4months.
Now suppose Sa was at 29 dg or 0.29 dg retro in Sg with other things remain same, Sa will
traverse Sc after birth and here progress rule will be same but certain event like gender
determination, nature & qualities of native it is contributor and from where soul came etc will be
seen with Sa in Sc, other things will remain the same, nor you can take retrograde planet & its
aspect in previous house etc. In case of future and qualities assessment retro planet at rashi
junction should not be counted when being posited in Asc or is d9 Asc lord.

Now when classic says that retro planet can cancel ‘raja yoga’ or any yoga means you should
first take into consideration the Sun position from that retro planet with its degree and if you
find that Su is just 6th to it means that planet will go rapid retro and may stand aloof or going
other sign/bhava from raja yoga so to cancel it. Though retro planet is strong, but due to
variation in motion [8motions as per Suryasiddhant] it fails to give uniform results. This is the
possibility asserted by classics is my view.

Some classics like Uttar kalamrit and Phaladipika says retro planet exalted will give results like
debilitated and debilitated retro planet will behave like exaltation. But many classics do not
consider this or not speak like this.

Some scholars straight takes retro planet and its aspects impact on previous house is their
preference …My humble view is that one should not take retro planet & its aspect in previous
house instead its impact be carefully assessed as said above.

Karaka element of planet cannot be changed nor it has resemblance of past life due to this retro
motion is my one view.

Lomasha samhita & Sanket nidhi has unique view on retro planets will be next… if time permits
