To the musicians:
seriously. In that sense it might be a poor homage to the Mbira Dzavadzimu tradition,
but this music has touched me so deeply that most of my whole output is, and will ever
be a tribute.
The piece was originally composed for an improvisation ensemble I used to play at,
and then arranged for Pierrot. Because of this, I selfishly gave more importance to the
performer's enjoyment than to the audience's! In particular, I draw great pleasure from
repetition and from the state of mind one achieves after "being in loop" for a while.
If this piece is played solely for the musicians' enjoyment, for the sake of the age-old
social ritual that chamber music is, feel free to add as many repetitions as you wish, to
ignore what's written and to improvise. However, if the performance is for an audience,
the score should be followed thoroughly and no extra repetitions added (an ornament
here and there would be nice though). I tried to repeat as much as possible without
allowing the music to become boring to the listeners. If they do get bored, ignore them
and have fun... and then buy them a beer.
