21 - REMIND OF THE LAY-OUT

211 - DC GENERATION SYSTEM

A. DC 28 v o l t primary g e n e r a t i o n h e t w o r k

The p r i m a r y energy source c o n s i s t s o f two generators, Each


generator i s l i n k e d t o t h e main d i s t r i b u t i o n buses DC BUS 1
and DC BUS 2 through GC1 and G C 2 l i n e contactors,

Each machine i s working a t h a l f i t s r a t e d power so t h a t i t can


supply t h e whote network through t h e b u s - t i e contactor (BTC)
i n the event o f equipment f a i l u r e .

DC BUS 1 and DC BUS 2 r e s p e c t i v e t y supply U T I L I T Y BUS 1 and


U T I L I T Y BUS 2 through UBCl and UBC2 contactors.

The DC network can a l s o be supplied from a ground power u n i t


through t h e e x t e r n a l power contactor EPC.

There 7s a l s o :

- a DC SERVICE BUS supplied :

* on t h e ground, d i r e c t l y from a ground power u n i t when EPC


is open
* on t h e ground w i t h EPC closed o r i n - f l i g h t , through
DC BUS 1,

For a s t a r t from the ground power unit, power i s supplied from


t h e u n i t through the EPC contactor and i s d i r e c t e d t o
s t a r t e r 1 o r 2 through contactors SC1 o r SC2,

Sequence o f events f o r a s t a r t from ground power u n i t :

- The ground power u n i t i s connected.

The c r o s s - s t a r t procedure c o n s i s t s i n u s i n g the opposite


generator as an energy source i n paralLe1 on the b a t t e r y t o
h e l p s t a r t the second S / G when i t s speed i s greater than
10 % NH,

NOTE : I f the c r o s s - s t a r t c o n d i t i o n i s not met, the s t a r t


procedure i s performed from t h e b a t t e r y only.

For i n f o r m a t i o n only, t h e NH curves and the generator v o l t a g e


a r e given f o r t h e t h r e e types o f s t a r t , according t o t h e
weather, as w e l l as the c l o s i n g sequence o f the s t a r t
contactors.

D u r i n g t h i s phase, generator c u r r e n t which a s s i s t s t h e b a t t e r y i s


l i m i t e d t o 600 A.

23 - LOAD SHEDDING SEQUENCE ( D C SYSTEM ONLY)

T h i s sequence c o n s i s t s i n a u t o m a t i c a t l y shedding t h e buses c o n t r o l l e d


by t h e DC BPCU and the GCUs i n the event o f overload, Overload
i n f o r m a t i o n i s provided by t h e h a l l e f f e c t c u r r e n t sensor i n s t a l l e d on
t h e negative feeder s i d e and by the voltage o f t h e generator p o i n t D
(GCU t e r m i n a l AA151,

When one o f t h e GCUs d e t e c t s overtoad, an OVERCURRENT s i g n a i i s sent by


t h e GCU (AB171 t o the DC BPCU,

A f t e r a delay t h a t i s a f u n c t i o n o f t h e overload level, the BPCU


successively sheds the buses u n t i l overload has disappeared, Contactors
a r e opened and tocked i n t h e f o l l o w i n g order :

- c o n t a c t o r o f DC SERVICE BUS 10PX ( i f overload i s on s i d e 1 o n l y )


- contactor o f DC UTILiTY BUS 1 o r 2 29PU or 30PU
- contactor BTC 16PU locked i n an open p o s i t i o n ,

I f overload i s s t i l l detected by t h e GCU, the DC BPCU sends an END OF


LOAD SHEDDING s i g n a l from which the GCU opens t h e l i n e contactor o f t h e
f a u l t y channel,

NOTE 1 : If, a f t e r sending an OVERCURRENT signal, t h e GCU does not


r e c e i v e t h e END OF COAD SHEDDING s i g n a l and i f overload i s
s t i l l present, the GCU can a u t o m a t i c a l l y open the t i n e
contactor.
