Medium Pressure Line Mounted Filters for Pressure Line and
Return Line Applications
The CN range of medium pressure filters has been introduced to supplement existing high
pressure filters (14P, 24P, 34P), to suit a variety of applications covering pressure and
return line installations. It offers the Customer a cost effective solution to medium
pressure applications with added security from a high working pressure of 15 & 40CN-70
bar, 80CN-55 bar. CN filters are light weight with die cast aluminium head and drawn
aluminium bowl construction and this combined with excellent fatigue pressure rating can
solve many of those traditional problems of spin-on design filters which are often
underrated for service required under tough, cyclic operating conditions.

Filter Selection
To select the correct housing and element it is
recommended that the ratio between the bypass
setting and the pressure drop across the filter with
a clean element should be at least 2:1. All filters
were tested in accordance with ISO 3968:
“Determination of pressure drop flow
characteristics of hydraulic fluid power filters”,
using mineral oil fluid SAE 10 at 30 cSt. viscosity.

To find total pressure drop through the filter assembly, add the ‘housing only’ pressure drop to the
‘element only’ pressure drop.

Parker Quality Elements for Improved Efficiency and Life
Inside each Parker Filter...a quality Parker Element
The important item in a filter assembly...is the element. It has to stop and hold contaminents that can
damage or stop a machine...while at the same time allowing the required flow of clean fluid to perform
its function. There are many ways to design and build an element, and, it’s easy to design a low cost
element. However, cost is not a good selection criteria...especially when the risk is loss of critical
performance. For instance, wire mesh reinforcement. Not all filter elements have it. It’s used in Parker
elements to keep the pleats from collapsing or bunching.
If pleats bunch, the effective surface area of the element is reduced, excessive pressure drop develops,
and the filter assembly may go into the bypass mode. This condition wastes energy, allows unfiltered
fluid flow back into the system, and effectively shortens filter life.

Parker Quality Elements for Cost Effective

Filtration
Not only do we at Parker Filtration take pride in producing elements
which you can rely on in a wide range of applications but our aim is
to provide these at realistic prices. In fact if you take a look at filter
efficiency and element life, it all adds up to ‘Cost Effective
Filtration’. Some of the features which have earned us our
reputation for quality and efficiency are to be as follows:-

Wire reinforced microglass elements - Rugged construction

withstands high cyclic duty whilst wire support reduces pleat
bunching to keep pressure drops consistent.
Multipass tested to ISO 4572 - Filter performance has been
verified according to an accepted international standard.
Epoxy treated end-caps, Viton ‘O’ Seals available - Can be used BACK TO
in a wide range of hydraulic and lubrication fluids.

Typical Application Example

To find the pressure drop (∆ p) across a complete filter with a clean

element. Consider a filter F3-40CN-2-10B-M-25-E2E2-1 handling
mineral oil fluid at 50 cSt viscosity and 200 l/min flow rate.

Total filter ∆ p = Housing ∆ p + element ∆ p -

= 0.35 bar + 0.20 bar (See graphs)
.
. . Filter with clean element ∆ p = 0.55 bar
∆ p is proportional to viscosity
Filter ∆ p (50cSt) = 0.55 bar x 50 = 0.92 bar
