In Z5.2
• You can copy predefined workflows to specific user groups and users. You can
publish user defined workflows. You can copy user defined workflows from one
user/user group to another user/user group. For more information, see Workflows.
• You can configure to ensure that the Traffic News Client user provides a reason
code when a query or workflow is executed.
In Traffica Admin Tool, you can enable or disable reason codes for Traffic News
users. You can also configure Traffic News users to enter reason codes either as
free text or select it from a list of configured options. For more information, see
Traffic News Settings.
• You can copy User Defined Field Sets and User Defined Queries, defined in Traffic
News, from one user to another in Traffica Admin Tool. For instructions, see
Copying Traffic News user-defined field sets and query definitions.
• The number of digits that can be entered into the Multiplier Value field in theGraph
Wizard dialog has been increased. However, if the number of meaningful digits
exceeds 17, the value is rounded out. For more information, see sections Creating
and modifying graphs, Creating and modifying linked graphs and Graph Wizard
dialog.
• You can define data label types in oder to display values with IP addresses in Traffic
Views Graphs.

In Z5.1
• It is possible to define data label types in order to display values with the precision
of one or two decimal places in Traffic Views graphs.
There are two new Data Label types available when creating and modifying graphs
and linked graphs:

• Decimal Number / 10 (the data label values will be displayed with the precision
of one decimal place in Traffic Views)
• Decimal Number / 100 (the data label values will be displayed with the precision
of two decimal places in Traffic Views)
Sections Creating and modifying graphs, Creating and modifying linked graphs and
Graph Wizard dialog have been updated accordingly.
• It is now possible to use negative values as filter values when creating graphs and
linked graphs. For more information on using negative filter values, see Creating and
modifying graphs and the description of the Filter Value field in the Graph Wizard
dialog description.

2.5 Creating users and user groups

Creating a user group

Purpose
User groups are created in the Users tab in the User and element hierarchy view. In
the Users tab you can see the Users tree, where different user groups and the users
belonging to them are displayed as nodes. The Users tree contains a top-level node

10 Id:0900d80580741e03 DN0432433
Issue 2-0
Traffica Admin Tool Help Instructions

called Users, which is not editable. All user groups and users are created under this
node. The Administrators group, Traffic News group and Traffic Views group exist
under the Users node by default. The Administrators and Traffic Views groups include
the admin user by default.
The current Traffica Admin Tool user cannot be deleted.
Traffica Admin Tool access rights are divided into two sections:
• Traffica Admin Tool Common for administrator rights - the user is allowed to config-
ure common users and elements related data and application specific data
• Traffica Admin Tool Applications for super user rights - the user is allowed to
manage different application specific data (Traffic Views, Traffic News, File Transfer
Configurations)
Administrator rights (Traffica Admin Tool Common) cannot be removed from the current
Traffica Admin Tool user. Only an administrator can grant or remove Admin Tool admin-
istrator and super user rights (Users and Elements tabs are not available for super
users).
Either of the two Admin Tool rights must be granted for a user group in order to enable
users of the group to log into Traffica Admin Tool. If a user has Traffica Admin Tool
Common access rights, he has the administrator role and he can modify any data includ-
ing users, elements and applications. If the user has only Traffica Admin Tool Applica-
tions access rights without Traffica Admin Tool Common rights, he can modify only
application specific data, i.e. Traffic Views graphs and File Transfer configurations.
A current user cannot remove Traffica Admin Tool Common rights from himself. This is
to make sure there is always someone who can configure user and element related
data. Having both Traffica Admin Tool Common rights and Traffica Admin Tool Applica-
tions rights is the same as having only Traffica Admin Tool Common rights, as Traffica
Admin Tool administrator rights have been granted in both cases.
Only one user can use Admin Tool at a time, no matter which kind of rights he has.

To create a user group

1. To implement this step, choose one of the following alternatives:

a. Right click a user group node in the Users tab in the User and element hier-
archy view and select New User Group from the pop-up menu

b. Select a user group node and Click Common → New User Group in the
menu bar.

Expected outcome
User Group Properties dialog opens in the dialog working area.

2. Enter user group name in the User Group Name box in the General tab. The
user group name must be unique.

Applications, Traffica Admin Tool Common, Traffica Database Export, Traffica
KPI Config Tool, Traffica RTT Server, Traffica File Server and Traffica
Summary Report Tool.

Further information
Selecting an application means that rights to use the application have been set for
users belonging to the group and users belonging to subgroups of the group. The
subgroups see the application selection in their inherited application rights list.

4. You cannot edit inherited application rights. They are read-only.

Further information
Inherited application rights list is a list of applications whose usage has been
enabled in some parent group of the user group (see application rights).

5. Click the Members tab

6. Click Modify...

Expected outcome
Select User Groups / Users for <user group name> dialog opens.

7. Add users and user groups by selecting them on the Available User Groups /
Users pane and clicking Add

8. Remove users and user groups by selecting them on the Selected User
Groups / Users pane and clicking Remove.

9. Click Apply

Expected outcome
Selected users and user groups are added on the Users / User Groups pane on the
Members tab.

10. Select the Access Rights tab to define access rights to element groups for the
user group.

11. Click Modify...

Expected outcome
The Select Element Groups for New User Group dialog opens.

12. Select the element groups that you want the new user group to have access
rights for in the Available Element Groups list box and click Add.

13. Click OK.

Expected outcome
The selected element groups are listed in the Available Element Groups box in the
User Group Properties dialog.

Issue 2-0
Traffica Admin Tool Help Instructions

14. Click OK

Expected outcome
New user group is created.

Example: Creating a group hierarchy based on Traffic Views application

groups
Create a user group, and set rights to use the Traffic Views application (you can also
use already existing Traffic Views user group). Now you can add users in the
created Traffic Views group. However, if you would like to divide Traffic Views users
into smaller user groups, you can create new user groups under the new Traffic
Views group. By creating a sub group, the new sub group will get inherited Traffic
Views application rights from the parent Traffic Views group. Create users in the
subgroups.
The created Traffic Views subgroups can be moved as they are under any other
user group branch that has some different application rights. This has the same
effect as granting some of the Traffic Views users different application rights.
Each created Traffic Views (sub) group has its own, separate profile in Traffic Views.
This means that each user group can be configured to see different graphs in the
Traffic Views client.

Example: Creating a simple group hierarchy based on different applications

Create a user group, which has no application rights. Under that root group, create
a sub user group per each application whose rights can be configured with Traffica
Admin Tool.
Create users for each application group (see, Creating a user).

Example: Creating user groups which see several graphs in Traffic Views
Client
Create a Traffic Views user group hierarchy as explained in above example Creating
a group hierarchy based on Traffic Views application groups. Add users in each user
group. Save. Each user group has a profile in Traffic Views Graphs view. Create
graphs (or customize existing ones by copying, pasting and modifying) for each user
group profile (see, Creating and modifying graphs).
Each user using Traffic Views client can see the graphs as defined in its parent and
ancestor Traffic Views user group profiles. For example, if in the hierarchy there is
group1 - user1 under which there is group2 - user2 and under that group3 - user3,
then user1 sees group1 profile, user2 sees group1 and group2 profiles and user3
sees group1, group2 and group3 profiles.

Creating a user

Purpose
Users are created in the Users tab in the User and element hierarchy view. In the
Users tab you can see the Users tree, where different user groups and the users
belonging to them are displayed as nodes. The Users tree contains a top-level node
called Users, which is not editable. All user groups and users are created under this
node. The Administrators group, Traffic News group and Traffic Views group exist
under the Users node by default. The Administrators and Traffic Views groups include
the admin user by default.

allowed to configure data related to users and elements, as well as application-
specific data. Only a user with Traffica Admin Tool Common rights can grant Traffica
Admin Tool user rights.
• The Traffica Admin Tool Applications rights are super user rights. The user is
allowed to configure application-specific data, for example Traffic Views graphs and
File Transfer.
Administrator rights (Traffica Admin Tool Common) cannot be removed from the current
Traffica Admin Tool user.
The Traffica Admin Tool user currently logged in cannot be deleted.

Instructions Traffica Admin Tool Help

9. Click OK

Expected outcome
Selected element groups and elements are added on the Element Groups /
Elements pane on the Members tab.

10. Click the Properties tab

Further information
Element property represents an attribute which is assigned to element and has
name and value. An element property is usually related to the role of the element.
For example, a TS element acting as a Traffic Views server has predefined element
properties like TrafViews_UIS_jnlp_address and TrafViews_AP_port. Modifying
predefined properties is restricted or completely prevented. An example of modify-
ing a predefined property is included in Traffic Views NAT configuration in chapter
Configuring Traffic Views when NAT is used in Administering Traffica.

11. Click Add

Expected outcome
An empty row is added to Element Properties.

12. Add element property name and value by double-clicking the field in Element
Properties.

13. Remove element properties by selecting a row on Element Properties and

clicking Delete

14. Click OK

Expected outcome
New element is created.

Example: Creating TS elements

Create TS elements directly under root TSs group, or if you like, you can first create
sub TS groups under TSs group, and then create TS elements into each sub group.

Example: Creating basic TNES hierarchy

Create TNES groups and elements under the root TNES group. You can add TNES
elements to any TNES group. However, if the TNES hierarchy is used in Traffic
Views topology it is recommended that TNES elements belong to the lowest level
TNES group (that is, groups that do no contain any subgroups). See, example of
creating TNES hierarchy for Traffic Views.

Example: Creating a TNES hierarchy for Traffic Views

Graph Import tool creates different TNES groups for each NE type adaptation. New
adaptations can be added at any time with a Traffica installation disk that uses
Graph Import. If you like, you can further create sub TNES element groups for each
imported NE adaptation group to categorize adaptation element groups in a more
detailed level. Create the actual TNES elements, which connect the real network
elements, and place the TNES elements into correct adaptation TNES groups.
NOTE: For making Traffic Views topology definitions as easy as possible, it is rec-

18 Id: DN0432433

ommended that you insert TNES elements only into TNES groups that have no sub
groups. See, Defining Traffic Views topology.
It is possible to delete any adaptation TNES group. However, this means that the
Traffic Views graphs that use the adaptation group as data source will end up in an
invalid state. When deleting an adaptation group, you must set new data source for
all the graphs using the adaptation group in order to save changes to database.

2.13 Creating and modifying graphs

To create a graph

Before you start

Graphs can only be created under graph sets and graph sets can only be created under
graph folders. So, before creating graphs, graph folders and graph sets have to be
created.
NOTE: Traffic Views client can show concurrently max 9 graphs per an opened graph
set. However, if you have created more than 9 graphs in a set, you can pick individual
graphs from the set and open them separately in other temporary sets.

1. Select Graphs by Usergroups from the View drop down menu.

2. Right click on a graph set in the Application view and select New Graph from
the pop-up menu.

Expected outcome
Graph Wizard opens.

Figure 1 General information

3. Enter graph name and description in the appropriate boxes

Further information
Graph name does not have to be unique, but it cannot start with the words "Nokia"
or "TRAF" because these words are reserved for predefined graphs.
The Unique Id field is a read-only field that allows to copy its contents. It may be used
when creating references on the graph from external tools.

4. Click Next

Figure 2 CCMA path(s)

5. Select Time Class List from the drop down menu

Further information
You can choose Time Class defined in the CCMA Path or a list that is defined in the
Time Classes view. The Time Class defined in the CCMA Path is the default
selection.

6. Select Default Time Class from the drop down menu

Further information
If Time Class List Time Class defined in the CCMA Path is selected this menu is
disabled. The Time Class will be specified as part of the CCMA Path.
To get a CCMA path with Time Class from Traffica: select a Graph in Traffica, right
click and select Properties. Graph Properties dialog opens. Click CCMA button on
Data tab. On the bottom of opened page there will be CCMA Path field containing
text like "TRAF 3G_Daily\RTT Report\All Reports Counter". This text contains both
Time Class (TRAF 3G_Daily) and CCMA path (\RTT Report\All Reports Counter)
parts. Copy the CCMA text, and paste in Graph Wizard's CCMA path field.

7. Select CCMA Type from the drop down menu

Further information
Supported CCMA types are:
• Counter - subscription to counter CCMA path
• Vector - subscription to vector CCMA path
• Relative Counter/Counter - subscription to Counter divided by Counter
• Relative Vector/Counter - subscription to Vector divided by Counter

Traffica Admin Tool Help Instructions

• Relative Vector/Vector - subscription to Vector divided by Vector

Note: the CCMA type needs to match with the CCMA path(s) given later. Otherwise
the graph will not show data.

8. Check History Data Included box if you want history to be included in query
result.

Further information
Having only online queries gives extra possibilities to change data presentation, for
example, makes possible to use graph types Pie for vector and Textual/Table for
counter.
History data is not available for multiple set vector graphs.

9. Enter CCMA path

Further information
If the Time Class parameter selected in Time Class List drop down menu is Time
Class defined in the CCMA Path, specify in CCMA path the Time Class name,
followed by CCMA path. Otherwise specify only the CCMA path starting with '\'.
Divisor CCMA Path is enabled only for relative graphs.
CCMA path may have parameters. Parameter should be entered in square brackets.
Here is an example: \RTT Report\Clear Code Vector:[Filter]\Counter. User input will
be inserted in the place of the Filter parameter.
If a Relative CCMA path was selected in CCMA Type drop down menu, user has to
specify CCMA path(s), for dividend (CCMA Path) and for divisor (Divisor CCMA
Path). CCMA paths should match with CCMA type requirements and have the same
Time Class specified if Time Class defined in the CCMA Path is used.
If you want to use more than one CCMA path per graph, check the Multiple Sets
check box. Minimum of two paths is required in multiple sets. Add Path button adds
path in the Multiple Set table. The Remove Path button removes path from the
Multiple Set table. For multiple set graphs and vector graphs you cannot choose a
TNES group as data source.
Multiple set means that a graph uses several Data Sets, that is, several CCMA path
definitions. Normally, a graph uses only one data set. When you add a new data set
to multiple set table, the default name "Set <next available index>" will be given to
the added data set. You can edit the data set name to be more descriptive. For
example, give the name according to used CCMA counter, "A Side", "B Side" etc.
The names of data sets are visible as such in the corresponding multiple set graph
legends in Traffic View client.

Instructions Traffica Admin Tool Help

10. Enter a value in the multiplier text box.

Further information
The data value multiplier is the value by which all the data point values are multiplied
before the graph is displayed. This value can be given as an integer or a decimal
value, up to 17 meaningful digits. For example, if you want to display percentages
for a relative graph, enter 100.0 in the data value multiplier box.
If the number of meaningful digits is greater than 17, the input value will be rounded
out as in the following examples:
111.00000000000001 -> no change
111.000000000000001 -> 111 (rounded)
111.123456789012345 -> 111.12345678901235 (rounded)
111.12345678901234 -> no change

11. Enter filter value in the Filter Value text box.

Further information
Active if Filter parameter was used in CCMA paths (otherwise disabled).
Separate the values by commas (,). You can type in single values or ranges (for
example, 2,4,6, or 2-6, 8-12, 14-20).
Values can decimal or hexadecimal (for example, 1-0x3FF).
Values can be negative. For example:
• 1--10 (Filter all values from 1 to -10)
• -1--10 (Filter all values from -1 to -10)
• -1-10 (Filter all values from -1 to 10)
You can group the values by adding a semicolon (;) (for example, 1,4-5;8-12;).
You can define an excluding filter by adding an exclamation mark in the beginning
of the field (for example, !1,4,8-12).

12. Check Show Filter in Graph Area box

Further information
If this box is checked the filter value shows in the graph area. The check box is active
only if the Filter parameter was used in CCMA paths. If a new graph is edited, by
default it is set on.

13. Click Next

14. Select data source from the Available Data Sources pane

Further information
The Available Data Sources pane contains a tree of all available TNES groups with
TNESs (tree represents TNES hierarchy). The data sources that are selected in this
pane are available for the user in Traffic Views Client (available in Traffic Views
Client are the selected data source itself and all its children). The default selection
is the first node in the tree.

in data source tree will be selected when editing the graph. User in Views Client will
be able to select values of the same type, as was selected in Default Data Source
tree. For example, if TNES group was selected, selection options are the top TNES
group and its sub groups. If a TNES was selected, selection options are all TNESs
inside top TNES group and its sub groups.

15. Select Default TNES

Further information
The Default Data Source pane contains a sub tree of TNESGroups/TNESs, from the
selected node in Available Data Sources tree. It includes TNES groups with sub-
groups and TNESs. User can select any TNES group, including sub groups, or a
TNES. Select a data source that will be used in the Graph by default. Default selec-
tion is the first TNES in the tree.
Note: When Default Data Source value chosen is a TNES group the graph is treated
as a graph in TNES group, and in Traffic Views Client only TNES groups will be
available for selection as data sources.
Note: The type of graph (single TNES or TNES group) can only be changed in
Traffica Admin Tool.

16. Check TNES Group as Combined check box

Further information
TNES Group As Combined check box is active if selected Default Data Source is a
TNES group. If TNES Group As Combined is selected, results from all TNESs in the
TNES group will be summed. Normally result from each TNES is shown separately
as separate bar(s).

Further information
The graph type options are: Bar, Line, Textual/Table or Pie. The active selection
varies according to which CCMA type attributes were chosen.
Options available for Bar are: Individual, Stacked and 100% Stacked. Stacked
displays a vector as a set of stacked bars.
Individual displays graphs individually; in case of multiple sets the sets are pre-
sented as individual graphs.
Stacked
100% Stacked displays vector as a set of stacked bars and scales all of them to 100.
Individual (former Automatic): for single set is the “normal” graph; for multiple sets,
each set is shown individually (has its own graph) o Stacked: available only for bar
graphs, it applies the “stacking” to three different types of data (more details are
described in Graph types paragraph) o 100% Stacked: available only for bar graphs,
applies the “stacking” the same way as the Stacked option
Fixed Y-Axis allows defining minimum and maximum values for Y-axis. Minimum
and Maximum text fields are available for Stacked Bar and Line with Fixed Y-axis
Scale. Otherwise they are disabled. Both values are optional.
Bar displays vector as a set of bars. Fixed Y-Axis option is available for Bar. It allows
defining minimum and maximum values for Y-axis
Pie displays vector as pie. Pie can also be selected for a counter graph if the data
source is TNES group.

Further information
Time Class List and Default Time Class are disabled because they are taken from
the Linked Graph Wizard.
Supported CCMA types are:
• Vector - subscription to vector CCMA path
• Relative Vector/Counter - subscription to Vector divided by Counter
• Relative Vector/Vector - subscription to Vector divided by Vector
Note: the CCMA type needs to match with the CCMA path(s) given later. Otherwise
the graph will not show data. For a child graph the default CCMA type is the parent
CCMA type.

13. Enter CCMA path(s)

Further information
If the Time Class parameter selected in Time Class List drop down menu is Time
Class defined in the CCMA Path, specify in CCMA path the Time Class name,
followed by CCMA path. Otherwise specify only the CCMA path starting with '\'.
Divisor CCMA Path is enabled only for relative queries.
CCMA path may have parameters. Parameter should be entered in square brackets.
Here is an example: \RTT Report\Clear Code Vector:[Filter]\Counter. User input will
be inserted in the place of the Filter parameter.
For lower level graphs, CCMA path should include parameters from upper levels,
listed in Parameters in CCMA Path below the CCMA paths field. If no parameters
are required, the Parameters in CCMA Path line is not shown to user. Wizard will
automatically copy CCMA path of parent, but user needs to insert into the path a
parameter that it gets from upper level.
Note: When creating a child graph, CCMA path(s) of the parent graph is copied to
the child graph but filter parameter is excluded from CCMA path.

111.00000000000001 -> no change
111.000000000000001 -> 111 (rounded)
111.123456789012345 -> 111.12345678901235 (rounded)

Dynamic graph titles allow inserting parameter values for displaying user relevant
information in linked graph when it is subscribed in Views Client. Dynamic titles can
only be used in graph titles.
For creating dynamic graph titles in linked graphs, you can use the syntax %L<linked
graph level>%<format> or %Link<linked graph level>%<format>. The syntax is
applicable for graph titles regarding child graphs of a linked graph.
Replace <linked graph level> with the hierarchy level of the child graph, for example,
1,2,3...
<format> can be any of the following: s, d, x, or X: s = string label, d = numeric label
in decimal format, x = numeric label in hexadecimal format (lower-case lettering), X
= numeric label in hexadecimal format (upper-case lettering), f = float values for
decimal types.

Example:
You have a linked graph (with the name BSC Traffic) showing the amount of traffic
in BSCs. You can create a child graph showing the clear codes of the selected BSC.
In the child graph, you can use a graph title Clear codes in BSC %L1%d. The format
string %L1%d is replaced with the label of the selected data point in parent graph
BSC Traffic. If you have selected in the parent graph a data point that corresponds
to BSC ID 11, the graph title in the child graph reads "Clear codes in BSC 11".

Example:
You have a linked graph (with the name SMS MO Clear Code) showing the mobile
originated short messages per clear code. You can create a child graph showing the
number of selected clear code in the program blocks. In the child graph, you can use
a graph title Number of Clear Code %L1%Xh / Set Program Block. The format string
%L1%X is replaced with the label of the selected clear code in parent graph SMS
MO Clear Code. If you have selected in the parent graph a data point that corre-
sponds to clear code 0x0, the graph title in the child graph reads "Number of Clear
Code 0X0h / Set Program Block". You can create a second level child graph
showing the internal situation, which caused the program block to generate the clear
code in question. In this second level child graph, whose parent graph is the first
level child graph "Number of Clear Code %L1%Xh / Set Program Block", you can
use a graph title Number of Clear Code %L1%Xh / Set Program Block %L2%s /
Internal Situation. The format string %L2%s is then replaced with the selected
program block name from the first level child graph Number of Clear Code %L1%Xh
/ Set Program Block. For the clear code 0x0, if you have selected a data point that
corresponds to program block "smhprb", the graph title in the second level child
graph Number of Clear Code %L1%Xh / Set Program Block %L2%s / Internal Situ-
ation eventually reads "Number of Clear Code 0X0h / Set Program Block smhprb /
Internal Situation".
If you are using the % character in a graph title, you can enter only once per graph
title. And if you are using the format string described above and you want the % char-
acter to appear in the string, the % character must be placed before the format
string. For example, Successful Call % for Cell Number %L1%d.

36. Enter X-axis title in the X-axis Title text box

37. Enter Y-axis title in the Y-axis Title text box

38. Enter graph location in X, Y, Width and Height text boxes

Further information

position are given in format 1/n, 1/3 for width means 1/3 of set width. For example,
if X=1/3, Y=1/3, Width=1/3, Height=1/3 the graph will be in the centre of the set and
occupy 1/3 of each dimension of its set. Default values for relative position are: X=0,
Y=0, Width=1/3, Height=1/3.

2.15 Creating a link from external application

Purpose
You can create a link to a Graph Set from another application. These are URL links that
you can place on a web page, for example. When the link is clicked Traffic Views Client
opens and shows the requested graph set automatically, after login.

To create a link from external application

1. The URL consists of a base and a parameter part. The base part is a URL that
starts Traffic Views Client. For example, http(s)://host:port/trafficviews/cli-
ent/appstart.jnlp. NOTE: only https will be used in the future.

2. The base and parameter part are separated by a question mark. After the
question mark you can enter one or more parameters that are separated by
ambersand (&). This way it is possible to define multiple graphs or graph sets
in the URL. Each graph/graph set are opened on their own tab.

3. A parameter consists of type, id and of optional filter value. The format is

<type>=<id>[:<filter>]. The type can be either graph or graph set. The id is the
unique id of a graph or graph set. The id can be called up by using Traffica
Admin Tool. If a graph or graphs (referenced directly or via graph set) support

filters a filter parameter will be used for those graphs. NOTE: If the referenced
graph or graph set is not found or the parameters are otherwise invalid no
graph or graph set will open and there will be no error dialog. Traffic View
Client writes to a log file information about invalid parameters.

Example:
Open a single graph:

2.16 Defining Traffic Views topology

Purpose
Traffic Views topology consists of Traffic Views Main Server only. The Main Server is
configured to collect counters from all TNES elements. This is visualized by connecting
the root TNES element group (TNESs) to the Main Server.
With this default Traffic Views topology, it is possible to
• Create new Extension Server under Main Server. For instructions, see Creating a
new Extension Server under Main Server.
• Attach Main Server to another TS element.
• Reconfigure the TNES connections of Main Server.
• Create a new User Extension Server, which is used for scaling up Traffic Views User
Interface Server instances for Traffic Views clients but which is not utilized as part
of Traffic Views Counter Server hierarchy for fetching counters. Creation of this kind
of User Extension Server is possible at any time when there are available TS ele-
ments. See, Creating a new User Extension Server.

Creating a new Extension Server under Main Server

Purpose
New Extension Server(s) should be added under Main Server, if there is a need for 2-
level (dual) TS site configuration. For description of configuration see, Traffic Views
architecture in Administering Traffica and Traffica architecture in Traffica Principles.
g Element groups are created in the User and element hierarchy view in the Elements
tab. Element groups are very important for creating topology for Traffic Views.
Before making a Traffic Views topology configuration, you must define general
TNES division among TNES groups. For clear and flexible Traffic Views topology

DN0432433 Id:0900d80580741e03 53
Issue 2-0
Instructions Traffica Admin Tool Help

configuration (see, example of creating TNES hierarchy for Traffic Views) it is rec-
ommended that
• TNES elements exist only in TNES groups, which do not contain any sub TNES
groups. That is, TNES elements have been placed in the lowest level TNES
groups in the TNES group hierarchy.
• Extension Servers, which have been added under the Main Server, connect only
the lowest level TNES groups.
The previous recommendations make it easy to reach a well-defined Traffic Views
topology: After all the Extension Servers have been added under the Main Server,
each TNES should be connected via one Extension Server.

1. Right click Traffic Views Main Server in the Topology tab in Application view.

2. Select Create New Extension from the pop-up menu.

Expected outcome
Confirm Create dialog opens.

3. Click Yes in the Confirm Create dialog if you are satisfied with your selection.

Expected outcome
Select Element dialog opens.

4. Select element

Further information
You can pick any TS element. When pressing Select, validity of the selected TS is
checked. If the TS element is already attached to some topology server, an error
dialog is shown, and reselection is needed. Cancelling the selection at this point
means keeping the currently attached TS.

5. Click Select

Expected outcome
Select Element Group dialog opens.

6. Select element group

Further information
Connect a TNES group via the new Extension Server. Only the TNES groups whose
TNESs have not yet been connected via other topology servers, can be selected. A
prerequisite for this is that each TNES connected to an Extension Server TS belongs
to its own (adaptation) TNES group in Elements tree. Only one TNES group can be
selected at this point (more groups can be added later). Once you have selected a
group, the new Extension Server is created in topology tree, and the topology is
ready to be used in Traffic Views. You can then save changes (see, Taking topology
changes into use). If you did not select any TNES group, the new Extension Server
appears in invalid state in topology tree: At least one TNES group must be con-
nected via the new Extension Server.

7. Click Select

Expected outcome
New Traffic Views extension server is created.

Further information
When 2-level TS site configuration is needed, there is normally need for at least two
Extension Servers under the Main Server. This means division of connected TNESs
between the Extension Servers.

Attaching an existing topology server to another TS element

Purpose
Whenever there are available TS elements (that have not been attached to any topology
server), it is possible to change the physical element of a topology server. Before
changing the attached TS in a topology server, make sure that the new TS has a correct
and working IP address, and it identifies the machine you are planning to use for the
Traffic Views topology server.

1. Right click the extension server of your choice in the Topology tab in Applica-
tion view

2. Click Attach to Element in the pop-up menu

Expected outcome
Select Element dialog opens.

3. Select element

Further information
You can pick any TS element. When pressing Select, validity of the selected TS is
checked. If the TS element is already attached to some topology server, an error
dialog is shown, and reselection is needed. Cancelling the selection at this point
means keeping the currently attached TS.

4. Click Select

Expected outcome
Element is attached.

Reconfiguring TNES connections of topology server

Purpose
It is possible to configure TNES connections of Main Server only if the 1-level Main
Server topology is in use. If Main Server contains Extension Servers (see, Creating a
new Extension Server under Main Server), TNES connectivity can be configured only
for the Extension Servers under Main Server. In any case, the procedure and restrictions
for changing TNES connectivity are always the same.

To add element groups to server

2. Click Add Group to Server in the pop-up menu

Expected outcome
Select Element Group dialog opens.

3. Select element group

Further information
You can pick any TNES group. When pressing Select, validity of the selected TNES
group is checked. If the group, any of its descendants, or any of its descendants is
already connected via another topology server (or the currently handled server
itself), an error dialog is shown, and reselection is needed. This way it is ensured
that each TNES is connected only via one topology server. Cancelling the TNES
group selection dialog keeps TNES groups of the topology server unchanged.

4. Click Select

Expected outcome
Element group is added.

To remove element groups from server

1. Right click the TNES of your choice in the Topology tab in Application view

2. Click Remove from Server in the pop-up menu

Expected outcome
Element group is removed from server.

Further information
Element group is removed from the server, and its sub hierarchy is no more connected
via the server. When you remove the last connected TNES group of a topology server,
you are requested to add a TNES group for the server; otherwise server would end up
in invalid state (having no connected TNES groups). See, Invalid states of topology
servers.

Creating a new User Extension Server

Purpose
Whenever TS elements are available, it is possible to create a Traffic Views User Exten-
sion Server, which is used for adding capacity. This is done to level server load and, con-
sequently, enabling more users for Traffic Views clients.

1. Right click Main Server or Extension Server in the Topology tab in Applica-
tion view

2. Select Create New User Extension from the pop-up menu

Expected outcome
Select Element dialog opens.

3. Select element

Further information
You can pick any TS element. When pressing Select, validity of the selected TS is
checked. If the TS element is already attached to some topology server, an error
dialog is shown, and reselection is needed. Cancelling the selection at this point
means keeping the currently attached TS.

4. Click Select

Expected outcome
New user extension server is created.

Taking topology changes into use

Purpose
Changes in topology take effect only after they are saved in database.

1. Click Traffica Admin Tool → Save

Expected outcome
Changes in topology are saved in database and servers have been requested to
comply with the new topology.
NOTE: Views Service restarts automatically after the topology is saved.

Further information
Saving topology is impossible if any of the servers are in an invalid state.
The Main Server or an Extension Server can turn to invalid state for a couple of reasons.
A server, which is in invalid state, prevents saving of Traffic Views topology to database.
When a server is invalid, the explanation of scenario that has made the server faulty for
the last time is shown in the tooltip. When trying to save changes, an error message that
lists all the invalid reasons is shown.

Table 2 Invalid states of topology servers (Cont.)

Example: Changing configuration of 1-level (main server) Traffic Views topology

When there is a need to put Traffic Views Main Server running on a different mainframe,
you can change the attached TS of the Main Server. For example, you might have a
need to put TrafCUS running on a different TS than the Main Server. Then, you must
attach the Traffic Views Main Server to the TS that is used for Main Server, not for
TrafCUS.
First create new TS element with the IP address of the target machine. Then, attach the
created TS to Traffic Views Main Server as defined in Attaching an existing topology
server to another TS element. Save changes.
By default in 1-level topology all TNES elements are connected via Main Server. This is
visualized by connecting the root TNES group "TNESs" to the Main Server in the
topology tree. However, if you want to connect only a part of the TNES elements to the
Main Server, you can reconfigure the connected TNES groups. Add the connected
TNES groups one by one as defined in Reconfiguring TNES connections of topology
server. Save changes.

Example: Configuring a 2-level Traffic Views topology

The 2-level Traffic Views topology means that Extension Servers exist under the Main
Server. The Extension Servers are connected to TNES elements so that every TNES is
connected to only one Extension Server. The Main Server does not connect any TNES
elements. Normally, there is need for at least 2 Extension Servers due to, for example,
maintenance region based division of TNES elements. However, adding only one
Extension Server is also possible.
Create 2 new Extension Servers. Before creating the Extension Servers, make sure that
the 2 TS elements having correct IP addresses exist for the Extension Servers. Also,
make sure the common TNES hierarchy has been defined according to the rules.
TNES elements exist only in TNES groups, which do not contain any sub TNES groups.
That is, TNES elements have been placed in lowest-level TNES groups in TNES group
hierarchy.
Extension Servers, which have been added under Main Server, connect only the lowest-
level TNES groups.

Then, create the 2 new Extension Servers under Main Server according to procedure
defined in Creating a new Extension Server under Main Server. Connect half of the low-
level TNES groups to both Extension Servers.

2.19 Creating and modifying file transfer configurations

Purpose
File transfer configurations can be created under elements and element groups.
g The configurations, which are created for an element group, are in practise targeted
for each descendant element in the element group’s subhierarchy. For implying this,
a configuration link to the actual element group configuration is shown in the File
Transfer Configuration tree under each descendant element.

1. Select File Transfers → Configurations tab

Further information

Figure 23 Editing the configuration target

6. Select a target in the Selected Targets pane.

Further information
By default, Selected Targets pane contains the creation starting point. If the starting
point target is an element, the Available Targets pane is empty. If the starting point
target is an element group, its subhierarchy is available in the Available Targets
pane. This way you can create a configuration for multiple targets at the same time.
For example, if you want to create a configuration with same criteria for selected
elements of an element group, you can start creating the configuration from the
group’s pop-up menu and pick only the desired elements as targets.
g The target cannot be changed in this page when you are editing an existing con-
figuration. In order to change the target for an existing configuration, you must
either
1. Delete the existing configuration and create a new one using the same criteria
for the new target.
Or
2. Use Cut and Paste for the configuration.

Further information

Figure 24 Editing file handling parameters

8. Give the file handling parameters. The parameters are used by File Transfer
Service for performing the actual file transfer task.

Further information
Task Enabled checkbox: when selected, this configuration is active from the File
Transfer Service point of view. Otherwise the configuration will exist in database but
it is ignored by File Transfer Service.
Alarms Generate checkbox: when selected, File Transfer Service will send an
alarm if the execution of the configuration related task fails. The alarm handling
parameters Severity and Failure Trigger Count are mandatory if Alarms Generate
checkbox has been selected. Failure Trigger Count points out how many times task
execution can fail before File Transfer Service sends the alarm with the given sever-
ity.
Enter Check Interval: Mandatory. Defines the interval of task checks in seconds.
The window stating how often File Transfer Service is searching for the files accord-
ing to File Pattern. The maximum Check Interval value is 86400 seconds (1 day )
Enter Search Directory: Mandatory. The directory that File Transfer Service
searches for files that would match ’File Pattern’. for example, ’C:\Traffica\Reports\
TrafRttExport’.
Enter File Pattern: Mandatory. Text pattern for File Transfer Service for searching
files to transfer in the directory specified by ’Search Directory’. You can use a wild-
cards asterisk (*) and a question mark (?).
• Asterisk (*)
You can use the asterisk as a substitute for zero or more characters. For
example, to move all files whose file name body ends with _msc_x, use search
pattern *_msc_x.

DN0432433 Id:0900d80580741e03 65
Issue 2-0
Instructions Traffica Admin Tool Help

• Question Mark (?)

You can use the question mark as a substitute for a single character in a name.
For example, to move all files whose file name body ends with
tnes_msc_<number>, number = 1,2,3...9 use search pattern
tnes_msc_?.
g The Wizard checks that the given file search pattern is not overlapping with
other configurations that have the same target space. In the context of File
Transfer services this ’file search pattern’ means a combination of Search
Directory and File Pattern.
Definition of ’same target space’ of two configuration depends on the selected
configuration targets as follows:
• Element Group 1 is of same target space with Element Group 2, if they have
mutual descendant elements (at least one mutual descendant).
• Element Group is of same target space with Element, if Element is descen-
dant of Element Group. Element 1 is of same target space with Element 2,
if they are the very same element (E1 equals E2).
This means that two configurations cannot be used on one TNES/TS that would
try to work with same files, because this would cause problems in File Transfer
Service task execution. For example, if there are two configurations with file
patterns *_msc5 and tnes3_* and the same Search Directory, problems will
occur. In this case the File Transfer Service task for both configurations may at
some point try to access the same files as for example file
tnes3_20050908_msc5.dat, fits both file patterns.
Enter Control File Extension: Mandatory. This File extension triggers the transfer.
Transferring files with the same file body pointed out by File Pattern is started only
after a file name with the specified extension is encountered. For example, when
Control File Extension is set to ctr, and data generation system creates files that
are found according to File Pattern, all those files are transferred when the corre-
sponding .ctr file is encountered.
Consider a File Transfer Service configuration with file search pattern C:\
Traffica\Reports\TrafRttExport\ab* and control file extension ctr. In the
context of File Transfer services this ’file search pattern’ means a combination of
Search Directory and File Pattern. That is, Search Directory has been defined as
C:\Traffica\Reports\TrafRttExport and File Pattern has been defined as
ab*.
For example, if the directory C:\Traffica\ Reports\TrafRttExport contains
the following files:

C:\Traffica\Reports\TrafRttExport
abc.dat
abc.sta
abc.ctr
abd.dat
abd.ctr
abe.dat
abc1.dat

66 Id:0900d80580741e03 DN0432433
Issue 2-0
Traffica Admin Tool Help Instructions

C:\Traffica\Reports\TrafRttExport
bba.dat
bba.ctr

At first, Traffica File Transfer Service searches the directory for files C:\Traffica\
Reports\TrafRttExport\ab*.ctr (file search pattern + control file extension).
In this case the following files are found:

C:\Traffica\Reports\TrafRttExport
abc.ctr
abd.ctr

Since some control files were found, Traffica File Transfer Service continues to
search files that have the same file name body as the control files that were found
in the previous step. In this case, Traffica File Transfer Service searches for C:\
Traffica\ Reports\TrafRttExport\abc.* and C:\Traffica\ Reports\
TrafRttExport\abd.*. The following additional files are found:

C:\Traffica\Reports\TrafRttExport
abc.ctr
abc.dat
abc.sta
abd.ctr
abd.dat

Note that even though the directory C:\Traffica\Reports\TrafRttExport

contains file abe.dat, which matches the file search pattern, it is not added to the
list, because there is no control file (abe.ctr) for the file.
Also file abc1.dat is not transferred, even though it would also match the file
search pattern and in addition its file name body is quite similar to control file
abc.ctr. Only the files with exactly the same file name body as the control file has
get transferred.
Since the control file is the last file to be transferred (of a collection of files with the
same file name body), the resulting list of files that get transferred to the remote
server is the following:

C:\Traffica\Reports\TrafRttExport
abc.dat
abc.sta
abc.ctr
abd.dat
abd.ctr

Application view
Application view is the area on the bottom left side of the main window. Currently it
contains the Traffic Views, Traffic News and File Transfers applications. The Traffic
Views application consists of graph part and topology part. Clicking the Graphs or
Topology tabs alternates the active and visible part. The File Transfer application
contains Configurations tab.
File Transfers, Configurations
File Transfer Configurations tree shows the element hierarchy as it is defined in user
and element hierarchy view. Elements and element groups can have File Transfer
Configuration items. There are two kinds of configuration nodes in the tree: actual
configurations and links to configurations (that is, a configuration targeted for an
element group is inherited by all descendant elements). You can use the Find Next
button to search for the element, element group and file transfer configuration nodes
whose name contains the string that you type in the Find Next text box.
You can select and open File Transfer Configuration wizard by double-clicking a
configuration node in the tree.

Traffic Views graphs
Traffic Views graphs tab consists of two graph views: Graphs By Usergroups and
Time Classes. Graphs By Usergroups view shows the user group profiles of all the
user groups, which are authorized to use Traffic Views. Each profile consists of a
hierarchy of graph folders, graph sets and graphs. Time Classes view shows all the
Time Class Lists and Time Classes that can be used in graph definitions.
Both the graphs views contain 'Find Next' button, with which it is possible to search
for the corresponding tree nodes whose name contains the given string.
If there is an error in any of the graphs, a red cross mark appears next to the graph.
The red cross mark also appears on the graph set of the graph, the folder to which
the graph set belongs to and all the parent folders of this folder, if any.
Traffic Views topology
Traffic Views topology tab consists of Traffic Views topology definitions in tree
format. For searching the nodes in the tree, the topology tab contains 'Find Next'
button, with which it is possible to search for the tree nodes whose name contains
the given string.
Traffic Views topology tree consists of tree root node 'Topology', Traffic Views Main
Server, a number of Traffic Views Extension Servers, and finally a number of TNES
groups connected via the different topology servers (either Main Server or Extension
Servers).
You can open pop-up menus for all the topology tree nodes.

of TNES). The data sources that are selected in this pane are available for the
user in Traffic Views Client (available in Traffic Views Client are the selected
data source itself and all its children). The default selection is the first node in
the tree.
Default Data Source
Select default data source. Possible selections are affected by Available Data
Sources selections. If you select a TNES group for Default Data Source then the
resulting graph will be a TNES group graph. If you select a single TNES then the
resulting graph will be a single TNES graph.

TNES Group As Combined

Check TNES Group As Combined check box. Available only if the default
data source is a TNES group. If checked then TNESs are not shown sepa-
rately but combined together.
Other Options
Graph Type
Select graph type (Bar, Line, Textual/Table or Pie). These options are enabled
according to the CCMA defined in the CCMA Paths pane. For more information
on the list of CCMA types that support various graph types, see the following
sections in Traffic Views Help.
• Support for Bar Graphs
• Support for Line Graphs.
• Support for Table Format
Individual
For a single graph set this graph type displays one graph. When selected for
multiple sets, each set has its own graph.
Stacked
The Stacked graph type is only available for bar graphs. Stacked is not sup-
ported for multi-set history graphs. When this graph type is selected, three dif-
ferent types of data are stacked:
• historical values for multi-set counter graphs with history and for single-set
vector graphs with history

84 Id:0900d80580741e03 DN0432433
Issue 2-0
Traffica Admin Tool Help User Interface

• sets for multi-set vector graphs without history (no stacking for multi-set
counter graphs without history)
• vector items for single-set vector graphs without history
100% Stacked
When the 100% Stacked graph type is selected, the stacking is applied as in the
Stacked graph type. The width of the graphs is set to 100%.
Dynamic Y-Axis
Select to enable a dynamic Y-axis scale. When the graph values vary, the Y-axis
is adjusted dynamically, so that the graph can be viewed within the graph
window.
Fixed Y-axis Scale
Select to enable a fixed y-axis scale. The behavior of this option is listed for each
graph type.
• Bar - Type in the minimum and maximum value that show on the y-axis of
the graph. The minimum and maximum values can be entered only if the
Fixed y-axis scale check box is checked.
• Stacked Bar - If there is a single label on the graph the values can be shown
in a stacked bar. Choose the scale on which the values are shown on the y-
axis: The scale can be set automatic by checking the Automatic button. This
means that the scale shows all the values of the label. The scale can be set
100% Stacked. This means that the scale is in per cents. The scale can be
set Fixed y-axis scale. This means that you can set the minimum and
maximum values of the scale.
• Line- Type in the minimum and maximum value that show on the y-axis of
the graph. The minimum and maximum values can be entered only if the
Fixed Y-axis scale check box is checked.
Logarithmic Y-axis
Select to convert the y-axis of a graph into a logarithmic scale. The values on
the y-axis will read as 1, 10, 100, 1000, etc. Each interval in the logarithmic y-
axis scale will be larger than the previous interval by a factor of 10. This option
is useful when viewing graphs with values spanning large ranges.
In a logarithmic Y-axis scale, there is no data visible in the graph between values
0 and 1. This is because this range of values is undefined on the logarithmic
scale.
Value To String Mapping
Select value to string mapping.
The mapping allows adding text explanations to vector items improving readabil-
ity. For example, instead of 0206 you may want to see "CALL REJECTED".
The mappings are defined in Traffica. They are inserted into CUS database
once a day from Traffica workspace's ccd*.ini and ccd*.conf files. For defining
new "value to string" mappings, see RTT Server Help.

name) and other limitations. If modification of a certain predefined element property is
limited or restricted (for example Traffic Views port properties of a TS representing
Traffic Views server), it will be shown with information dialog when user selects the
property in properties table.
An element can belong to more than one Element Group (specified in element groups
tab). Element functionality is different depending which element branch it belongs to
(either TNES branch or TS branch): If element belongs to a TNES group, element is a
datasource for counters. If element belongs to TS group, it serves as a Traffica server,
having, for example, Traffic News, Traffic Views or CUS servers running. An element
can belong to several TNES groups or several TS groups or both TNES groups and TS
groups. If an Element belongs to both TNES and TS groups, it might represent, for
example, a Traffica acting as data source for Traffic Views = TNES role and CUS server
= TS role.

• Database function can become unstable, which means that all data sent by
the network element cannot be stored into the database.
• Traffica system can become too loaded, which means that whole system will
become unstable and unusable.
• It is not guaranteed that other Nokia Siemens Networks applications inter-
acting with Traffica function properly. Also, their response times can
decrease dramatically (e.g. Traffic News).
• Traffica can terminate the direct ODBC connection if the load gets too high
or some other Traffica function takes place, such as a database backup.
In addition, customer must accept the following:
• Exact description for the database structure is not available.
• Database structure changes in the upgrade and change notes are not nec-

Traffica Admin Tool Help Tips and Hints

4 Tips and Hints

4.1 Copy-paste functionality for Folders /Sets /Graphs

It is possible to copy and paste a Views object. Paste is available when parent node is
selected.

Example: you want to copy Graph A from Folder X into folder Y

1. Select Graph A

2. Copy (Ctrl-C or Copy from pop-up menu)

3. Select Folder Y

4. Paste (Ctrl-V or Paste from pop-up menu)

4.2 Avoid copying graphs, graph sets and graph folders for
user rights
Avoid copying graphs/sets/folders to make them available to other groups. Try and
create a small User Group and to utilize User Group hierarchy to make it available to all
users that need it.

4.3 Notify Traffic Views Client users before saving changes

When saving changes to TNES hierarchy and/or Traffic Views topology, all the Traffic
Views Services are restarted. That is, all the Traffic Views Clients using the services are
automatically logged out. Notify Traffic Views Client users before saving changes to
database regarding TNES hierarchy or Traffic Views topology.

4.4 Caution on hierarchy changes

Plan changes carefully, if modifying user group / element group hierarchy and Traffic
Views graphs / topology simultaneously. It is important to keep Traffic Views data up-to-
date and consistent at all times regarding:
• Traffic Views graphs view is based on user groups with Traffic Views application
rights
• Traffic Views graphs use TNES hierarchy in data source definitions
• Traffic Views topology utilizes both TNES and TS hierarchy in topology server defi-
nitions

4.5 Synchronization between Application view and User and

element hierarchy view
A new Element or Element Group or User Group becomes visible in Application view
only after saving. After this changes to Elements or Element Groups or User Groups are
visible immediately.
