Rationale

Teaching is a profession that requires a lot of hard work on the part of

teachers in order to ensure that the learning goals or objectives are met at the

end of the day or semester. However, a teacher’s job does not end with only

teaching. As stated in DepED Memorandum No. 291 s. 2008, teachers are also

expected to perform tasks beside rendering six hours of teaching. They also

have to prepare lesson plans, manage misbehaviors, attend seminars, consult

parents, coach students including home visits, and others. Aside from the

professional responsibilities, teachers have other tasks they have to attend to.

As stated by Tan (2017), teachers also have to attend to their family, social life

and other commitments. Thus, it is no denying that teaching is indeed a very

stressful job to handle.

As noble as it is, teaching is considered as one of the most stressful jobs

one can work for. According to the report conducted by Worth, Lynch, Hillary,

Rennie, & Andrade (2018), teachers experience more stress than other workers.

According to Ansley, McPhee, Meyer, & Varjas (2018), stress is a threat that

negatively affects the teachers’ well-being and is also experienced at a high

level everyday by nearly half of all teachers. Thus, the paper aims to study the

factors affecting teachers stress and the coping strategies of Cotabato City

State Polytechnic College Faculty.
