AUXILIARY SYSTEMS

ARE COMPONENTS RELATED WITH SECURITY SYSTEMS, COMFORT SYSTEMS,

LIGHTING SYSTEMS AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS WHICH ARE VERY IMPORTANT
TO HELP THE MAIN SYSTEM TO PERFORM ACCORDING THE SPECIFICATIONS.

These support systems of the building environment include:

1. BUILDING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (BMS)

A building management system (BMS), also knows as a building automation
system (BAS), is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that controls and
monitors the building's mechanical and electrical equipment such
as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems.
A list of systems that can be monitored or controlled by a BMS are shown below:
 Illumination (lighting) control
 Electric power control
 Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
 Security and observation
 Access control
 Fire alarm system
 Lifts, elevators etc.
 Closed-circuit television (CCTV)
 Control Panel
 PA system
 Alarm Monitor
 Security Automation

2. CLOSE CIRCUIT TELEVISION SYSTEM (CCTV)

CCTV also known as video surveillance is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a
specific place, on a limited set of monitors. Though almost all video cameras fit this
definition, the term is most often applied to those used for surveillance in areas that may need
monitoring such as banks, stores, and other areas where security is needed.
3. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
A fire alarm system has a number of devices working together to detect and warn people
through visual and audio appliances when smoke, fire, carbon monoxide or
other emergencies are present. These alarms may be activated automatically from smoke
detectors, and heat detectors or may also be activated via manual fire alarm
activation devices such as manual call points or pull stations. Alarms can be either motorized
bells or wall mountable sounders or horns.

4. LIGHTNING CONTROL
A lighting control system is an intelligent network based lighting control solution that
incorporates communication between various system inputs and outputs related to lighting
control with the use of one or more central computing devices. Lighting control systems are
widely used on both indoor and outdoor lighting of commercial, industrial, and residential
spaces. Lighting control systems serve to provide the right amount of light where and when it
is needed.

5. HVAC CONTROL
HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) equipment needs a control system to
regulate the operation of a heating and/or air conditioning system. Usually a sensing device is
used to compare the actual state (e.g. temperature) with a target state. Then the control
system draws a conclusion what action has to be taken (e.g. start the blower).
6. BACKGROUND MUSIC AND PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM (BGM/PA)
A public address system (PA system) is an electronic system
comprising microphones, amplifiers, loudspeakers, and related equipment. It increases the
apparent volume (loudness) of a human voice, musical instrument, or other acoustic sound
source or recorded sound or music. PA systems are used in any public venue that requires
that an announcer, performer, etc. be sufficiently audible at a distance or over a large area.
Typical applications include sports stadiums, public transportation vehicles and facilities, and
live or recorded music venues and events.

7. INTERCOM SYSTEM
An intercom (intercommunication device), talkback or doorphone is a stand-alone voice
communications system for use within a building or small collection of buildings,
functioning independently of the public telephone network . Intercoms are generally mounted
permanently in buildings and vehicles.

8. STRUCTERE CABLING SYSTEM (SCS)

A structured cabling system (SCS) is a set of cabling and connectivity products that
integrates the voice, data, video, and various management systems of a building (such as
safety alarms, security access, energy systems, etc.).

9. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
An electric power system is a network of electrical components deployed to supply,
transfer, and use electric power. An example of an electric power system is the grid that
provides power to an extended area.
