for each hobby (1) what equipment(s) needed, (2) how to do it, (3) who can be involved.
playing musical
learning languages
taking photos hunting
Activity 7: Work in pairs to ask and answer the following questions. You will take turns to ask them
to answer the questions of hobbies. First, choose five questions in the list below to ask your partner.
Using phrases rather than just single words to express frequency will help impress the listener. Instead of
‘I occasionally play tennis’, say ‘I play tennis every now and again’. Instead of ‘I often take photos’, try
using a gerund and an idiom expressing time: ‘Taking photos is what I do on a regular basis’. And don’t
forget you can use these expressions of frequency with any topic, not just with hobbies.
Activity 8: The phrases below express frequency. Put them in order from the most frequent to the
least frequent.
once a fortnight
every other day
every Tuesday
every single day
several times a year
twice a year
Practice talking about things you do and how often you do them. You can change some of the
phrases above to make them true for you.
Examples: I sing karaoke every other Saturday. I go to the theatre about three times a year.
