TEACHER: Martín Ulises Aparicio Morataya

STUDENT: Erika Jasmin Vasquez Juarez

DATE: Thursday 20th, January 2011

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this report is to know the kind of learning style we have and take into
consideration the aspects which are mention in each explanation of the different learning
styles. It is important we know about what type of learning style we identify and put into
practice some of the recommendations they provide to us.

Here you are a little explanation about what is Vark and an explanation of one of the
learning style. Vark is a questionnaire that provides users with a profile of their learning
preferences. These preferences are about the ways that they want to take-in and give-out
information.

Multimodal learners and teachers can be more flexible about how they take in and give out
information than those with a profile that emphasizes a single preference. They tend to be
able to match their preferences with whatever mode(s) are being used. That is the "Yes"
answer. But because multimodal learners need to have at least two, three or four modes
involved in learning before they are satisfied that is a disadvantage. For example, someone
with an AR profile would want to read about it and talk about it with others before they
would "trust" the incoming information. A single preference learner would "get it" from just
their preferred mode if it was available in that form.
The VARK Questionnaire Results

Your scores were:

 Visual: 2
 Aural: 6
 Read/Write: 5
 Kinesthetic: 3

You have a multimodal (AR) learning preference.

3. Description of my learning style

Multimodal Learning Style

As my score was I have a multimodal learning style a little bit of all learning styles. It
means I have multiple preferences. This learning style gives me the opportunity to choose
more than two modes at the time to interact with people, it means that is easy for me to
adapt with new people. But there is one learning style in which I have a high score the
Aural, this learning style is known by get the information though hearing and not by taking
notes. Is better for aural people pay attention in something than been writing about any
information, they have the ability to retain it without forget anything.

In multimodal learning people always have more than one strategy, it means that they are
cautious, they never stay with one strategy, they always think that maybe they are going to
need another tool if the one they have is not enough. In other words the information about
multimodal learning style gave me and helps me to understand better the way I can improve
my learning style and putting into practice.

4. Study Strategy

Aural Study Strategies

INTAKE: To take in the information:

 attend classes
 attend discussions and tutorials
 discuss topics with others
 discuss topics with your teachers
 explain new ideas to other people
 use a tape recorder
 Remember the interesting examples, stories, jokes...
 describe the overheads, pictures and other visuals to somebody who was not there
 leave spaces in your notes for later recall and 'filling'

SWOT - Study without tears

 Your notes may be poor because you prefer to listen. You will need to expand your
notes by talking with others and collecting notes from the textbook.
 Put your summarized notes onto tapes and listen to them.
 Ask others to 'hear' your understanding of a topic.
 Read your summarized notes aloud.
 Explain your notes to another 'aural' person.

OUTPUT: To perform well in any test, assignment or examination:

 Imagine talking with the examiner.

 Listen to your voices and write them down.
 Spend time in quiet places recalling the ideas.
 Practice writing answers to old exam questions.
 Speak your answers aloud or inside your head.

Read/Write Study Strategies

INTAKE: To take in the information:

 lists
 headings
 dictionaries
 glossaries
 definitions
 handouts
 textbooks
 readings - library
 notes (often verbatim)
 teachers who use words well and have lots of information in sentences and notes
 essays
 manuals (computing and laboratory)

SWOT - Study without tears

 Write out the words again and again.

 Read your notes (silently) again and again.
 Rewrite the ideas and principles into other words.
 Organize any diagrams, graphs ... into statements, e.g. "The trend is..."
 Turn reactions, actions, diagrams, charts and flows into words.
 Imagine your lists arranged in multiple choice questions and distinguish each from
each.

OUTPUT: To perform well in any test, assignment or examination:

 Write exam answers.

 Practice with multiple choice questions.
 Write paragraphs, beginnings and endings.
 Write your lists (a, b, c, d, 1, 2, 3, and 4).
 Arrange your words into hierarchies and points.

5. CONCLUSION:

I conclude that is very important to know about the kind of learning style we have
because in this way we know what can we improve in our learning and
communicative environment. The results of the text are really the way we are in our
learning are good, well in my case it fits really well to me, the way I can use it is
getting some of the examples they provide according to our learning style.

I could not say about to apply this during the semester, I would like but I think this
can happen suddenly without we know when it happens, but in some aspects I think
I can put it into practice. In general conclusion Vark is a website that can help any
student to know the learning style they have, is a very useful tool that help us during
the learning process.
