Executive Summary
Chapter 1: Company Overview
1.1 Introduction to the company
The name of our company is “Making and Sharing Healthy Pickles” where it is known as
the "achar," the English term "pickle" comes from the Dutch word "pekel" which refers to
the brine. The pickles are food items that are used every day and still have a ready
demand. Like in the past all consumers buy readily available pickles from the store
instead of making them at home because people nowadays are dependent on eating
pickles from store due to factors such as lack of time to produce them, efforts involving
pickles preparation. So, our store is making and sharing homemade healthy pickles to
all the consumers who lack time to make pickles at home and also who are too lazy to
shop at supermarkets and grocery shops. Therefore, our main aim is to provide healthy
homemade pickles according to the consumer’s preference. The main mission and
vision of our company “ making and sharing homemade healthy pickles” is to become
a brand of Nepal , known for its best quality , taste and customer satisfaction and
become the best quality pickle locally and continue to provide healthy homemade
pickles to our customer

Our store will be in Kathmandu, which is the capital city of Nepal. Nepali pickle makers
have endeavored to gain a greater market share dominated by international brands by
creating a broader product range. Small and medium-sized entrepreneurs have also
been encouraged to enter the pickle-making sector as it can be started with a fairly
small investment. As we have mentioned Kathmandu here, our location will be around
these localities to meet the target customers.

1.2 History and current status of Pickle Stores

Achar means pickle with a spicy touch. Pickle is also an integral part of Nepali foods.
Achar gives a spicy taste to daily meals. Achars may be made fresh or pickled. Pickled
achar is also very common, as it is easy to preserve without any refrigeration for a long
time.http://www.weallnepali.com/recipe/achar-1Nepali pickles made their presence
known on establishments ranging from department stores and five star hotels to small
grocery stores. Many of the pickles are also shipped to variouscountries. While there are
several different types of pickles in Nepal, some of the features are common to all. In
general, Pickled cucumbers which are crisp vegetables are very famous in Nepal, and
are described as having a solid, biting flavor caused by the vinegar they are stored in.
Specific pickle manufacturers typically apply spices to give a special flavor to their
pickles. In most Nepali households the spicy and crunchy pickled cucumbers we call
khalpi ko achar play a very important role. It is mostly eaten in a dal-bhat-tarkari
combination with traditional Nepali meal, or it's just fine to serve combined with bland
afternoonsnacks.http://tasteofnepal.blogspot.com/2014/10/pickled-cucumber-khalpi-
achaar.html Sweet pickles are also available in Nepal, which are packed with added
sugar. Usually, these are used to create pleasures. Kosher pickles were pickles
approved by America's Jewish Orthodox Congregations but now the term kosher is
sometimes used to describe any garlic-flavored pickle.

1.3. Overview of the market needs and the products and services

Pickle is prepared by either anaerobic fermentation in brine or immersion in vinegar to

maintain or prolong the lifetime of a fruit, herb, or a combination of both. They are
known for a wide range of health benefits, such as digestive enhancement, providing
essential minerals and vitamins, and ulcer reduction. In the past few years, the
promotion advertising efforts have increased the popularity of cross-cultural cuisine,
which in turn has helped fuel demand for pickles around the
world.https://www.imarcgroup.com/pickles-market
1.4. Overview of your company strategy and objectives

Our business idea is for the long term. Attracting customers will be a difficult task. But,
with the internet penetration rate growing in Nepal, online will be the best idea to
attract the customers.Though, there are some rivals that are also following the same
strategy for attracting the customer. So, with respect to reaching potential customers,
we will launch sites through Facebook and Instagram accounts as people seldom visit
websites nowadays so social media marketing leads the way.

Chapter 2: Product and Service Description

· Provide a description of the products or services your company provides
· Why your product or service is needed in the market:
· Why your product or service is better than what is available in the market.
· A comparison of your product or service with those of direct competitors
· Describe any proprietary rights that you have to the product or service.
Describe the current status of your product or service.

2.1. Description of products and services of the Pickle

Pickles (achar in Nepali) are a fundamental part of Nepali cuisine, a spicy and/or sour
condiment complementing the staple dal bhat tarkari. Historically, pickles in many
societies were a way to preserve vitamin-rich food for the winter before refrigeration was
invented. While pickle making is a global practice, it has particular importance in our
country.
So, our business mainly focuses on making Radish and Chicken pickles for both offline
and online stores. Radish pickle is spicy, sour, pungent, and irresistible. It requires a
few (radish + oil + mustard powder + chili powder + salt), mason jar, and 10-15
days of inactive time whereas for chicken pickle it requires ginger-garlic mixture,
chilly powder, lemon juice, spice powder and fried chicken.
To the customers who cannot visit our store personally due to their busy
schedules, we will provide a delivery system where they can place orders and
get the pickles at their doorstep. There are many pickle stores available in
Kathmandu, but as per the primary research, there is the least number of stores
that provide healthy pickles with delivery on time. (See appendix 8,9). Therefore,
our business will be serving both vegetarian and non-vegetarian people. So, we
can target all groups of people inside the Kathmandu Valley.

2.2. Needs of the Making and Sharing Healthy Pickles Store in a market
The proposed product of the unit is a pickle. Pickle comes in a large variety and gets
consumed by almost every Nepalese in Kathmandu as it doubles the taste of food by
adding a spicy flavor and palatable to eat. Unlike the past all classes of consumers are
consuming readily available pickles from the market rather than making them at home.
Similarly, restaurants, grocery shops, and other food places also have a huge demand
for homemade pickles every day. https://halfmba.com/homemade-pickle-business-
plan/?fbclid=IwAR0g34jNz9ayaeYIrcflitcyut5dwvfRt6OSaPvfNUtDpGVrFeJGIME22Iw
The people nowadays are ready to eat pickles due to factors like lack of time to make
them and efforts involved in preparing pickles. Moreover, Nepali Pickle market is
dominated by foreign brands by coming up with a wider variety of products due to the
low quality of the pickle.
https://kathmandupost.com/money/2015/03/14/nepali-pickle-makers-come-into-their-
own
Therefore, our main objective is to focus on the quality and health of the consumers.
Thus by consideration of all the above factors, it can conclude that there is high scope
for pickles manufacturing units.

the pickling process enhances the flavor and nutritive value of the end product. Moreover, the
pickles instantly add some extra taste, flavor, and texture to the usual fruits and vegetables.
Preparation of pickle in its true sense is an art that has been nurtured by these communities for
ages which is evident from the fact that each and every individual of a family is somehow
associated with the preparation process.
Moreover, our aim was to introspect the cultural impression of different communities on pickle
production and the associated health benefits imparted to their day to day
life.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC589
Pickles made up of radish and chicken are in high demand in Nepal but Nepali pickle makers
have been making efforts to secure a larger share of the market dominated by foreign brands by coming up with a
wider variety of products. Growth in demand has also encouraged small and medium level entrepreneurs to enter the
pickle making business as it can be started with a comparatively small investment.
Pickle business in Nepal can be started with a very small investment and requires a basic skill for pickle making.
https://kathmandupost.com/money/2015/03/14/nepali-pickle-makers-come-into-their-own
https://halfmba.com/homemade-pickle-business-plan/

Another authentic recipe from Nepali cuisine! Almost every Nepali around the globe is familiar with this
dish because it is so popular in Nepal.

But if you're bored of the jars at the grocery store and can't keep your homemade pickle production up to speed with your
cravings, the best way to really satisfy your love of pickles is by getting yourself (or a fellow pickle fanatic) a pickle subscription
box.

(Nepali Fermented Radish Pickle) Basically, fermentation is an anaerobic process (not requiring oxygen) where
carbohydrate is converted to compounds like alcohol, lactic acid, or gases. Their primary role was food preservation
& alcohol production but now there is a growing interest in health benefits from probiotic due to the presence of
different strains of bacteria and yeasts.

Many peoples are doing these types of business here. Kathmandu, as well as Nepal, is the place where many
people eat Mo: Mo (Crore’s of money is earning daily from this business). If you can provide every Mo: Mo
Center the same taste pickle, you can’t even estimate your daily income

2.3 Why our product is better than what is available in the market

According to primary research, the consumers are not satisfied with the quality of the
pickle available in the market. By opening a store, we are going to sell healthy
homemade pickles with low fat, essential minerals at an affordable price in comparison
to the market. Similarly, people mostly buy pickles from the local Kirana shop and
department or grocery store but the least number of people have purchased the pickle
from the online store which shows that there is no strong online pickle store in
Kathmandu which can be a great competitive advantage to our company. (See
Appendix 8,9)

2.4. A comparison of the pickle store with direct competitors

There are few direct competitors in Kathmandu such as Aama Ko Achar, Amako, etc.
https://english.onlinekhabar.com/achaar-ghar-restaurant-review-hub-
of-nepali-pickles-and-homely-foods.html In Nepal, most of the pickle stores
provide a peculiar taste and size pickle due to which most young people can enjoy the
taste of the pickle. So we will be providing the customized pickle through the online
store where customers can choose the species, size, oil, and salt due to which people
can choose pickles of their taste. Similarly, we are focusing on both physical and online
stores, where the people can visit the store and can taste the pickle, and later they can
place the order according to their preferences online and we will be delivering it to their
doorstep.

2.5 Proprietary rights of the Making and Sharing Healthy Pickles Store

We need to register our company before starting our business. In order to register a
company, an application in the prescribed legal formats should be submitted to the
concerned department. Partners should then agree with all the details that are written in
the form.

2.6 Current status of Making and Sharing Healthy Pickles Store

The current status of our business is in the planning phase. We are planning to open
our store within one month and after opening the store we will be creating the website
where we will be selling pickles online. The important raw materials required by the
units are radish, oil, mustard powder, chili powder, salt, chicken, ginger, and lemon. All
the raw materials required for the unit are available in any quantity at a reasonable rate
from the local market. So there will not be any scarcity for the availability of raw
materials.
Chapter 3: Marketing and Sales

Market segment ma: Focus on the targeted audience in this case female will be your main
audience, hotels & restaurants also can be a bulk buyer.

Chapter 4:
4.1 Operation

The proposed unit will function in a building owned by one of our business partners.
The land and building space are enough for proper carrying out of activities of the unit.
The location of the unit should be aside the main road of Kathmandu. There is enough
space in premises for parking the vehicles and smooth flow of people and materials.
Our store will be targeting all aged group people. Similarly, our business operation
consists of establishing both online and offline stores, purchasing the required raw
materials, manufacturing Pickle, receiving orders, sales and delivery, and after-sales
service.

4.1. 1 Establishing both online and offline store

We are going to open the physical store at the main road of Kathmandu where people
can visit the store to taste the pickle and can place the order through the online and get
their delivery at the doorstep. In today's world, people are more into the use of
technologies to make their work easier and efficient. Therefore, we are establishing an
online store through various channels like facebook, instagram and websites.

4.1.2 Purchasing the required raw materials

For the required raw materials needed to make the pickle, we will be dealing with the
local farmers and food distributors for purchasing vegetables, chicken and spices in
bulk. The main goal of our business is to provide healthy pickles to our customers, so
through local farmers we can purchase fresh vegetables and also help to reduce our
cost as it would be cheaper than supermarket prices.

4.1.3 Manufacturing the products

There are around 20 to 40 % people who do not consume meat and the rest are non-
vegetarian in Kathmandu. http://therisingnepal.org.np/news/670
So to target overall customers, our business will be manufacturing both vegetarian and
non vegetarian pickles i.e radish and chicken pickle respectively. We will be
manufacturing the pickle according to the customer’s preferences. Beside that, in order
to maintain the quality of the product, we will be using vacuum packs which means the
air is removed from the jar before it is sealed. This helps to maintain taste of the pickle
and prevents contamination by microorganisms .http://www.madehow.com/Volume-
4/Pickle.html

4.1.3 Receiving orders

Customers can place their orders through our website or they can visit our physical
Store.

Our powerful and intuitive online ordering system software will enable customers to
receive orders and place orders on a website like facebook page or custom pickle
application.

4.1.4 Sales and delivery

We are going to sell the product through both physical and online stores at a reasonable
price than the local markets. We will also ask Hotels and restaurants to taste and buy
our pickles so that we can sell them in bulk. Similarly, we will be making small sample
packets of pickles and distributing it in our locality. So that people can know the taste of
our pickle which will also help to increase the number of customers.
According to the survey, 87% of people prefer to purchase the pickle in a jar rather than
in a packet. (see appendix) Therefore, we will be delivering the pickle in the jar.
We will be hiring two workers for delivering the products.

4.2 Scope of operation

The people who are bored of the jar pickles of the grocery store and who cannot make
homemade pickles. For those people, our store will be providing customized healthy
homemade pickles at their doorstep. According to the survey, most of the people
consume pickle frequently which shows that if the pickle tastes good and healthy then
there is a large market opportunity of pickle in the market. Nowadays, almost every
segment of the society's middle class and upper middle class are looking for readymade
food options with good services. Therefore, there is high scope for pickle stores in the
market which have healthy and good services.

Management:
But due to immense competition the company was not able to take quick decisions & did not change its
strategies in the competitive amrket.

Eventually the goodwill of the company diminished & the board of directors resigned.

A new board consisting of 4 board members from the same industry were appointed.

The new board suggested a change in name which was eventually agreed by the shareholders & the
company law approved of it.

The determination & hard work put in by the employees of the company paid off & jashn pickles now have
manufacturing units in all the zones viz north, east, west, south.

The company retained its base in mumbai.

Need to go global

Globalization is necessary for the following reasons:

1: profit maximization: the main moto of a business is to achieve profits. If we enter into a wider market
the chances of profit increases & what great opportunity to enter the foreign market after the success of
your product in india.
2: stagnant or shrinking domestic markets: the pickle industry in india has grown very rapidly in recent
times. A lot of manufacturers have come into existence which has shrinked the market for pickles in india.
Although covering entire india is not possible as the scope is huge we have opted to go global.

3: foreign revenue: globalization is necessary to earn foreign exchange currency for the country as it is
our duty to earn for our country. This will help us to achieve economies of scale.

4: reduce dependency on single market : as mentioned above, the competitors are increasing day by day
in india. So to reduce the dependency on a single market we plan to go global in search of a much bigger
market & less competition.
