CURRICULUM VITAE – PROF QUEK TONG BOON

Quek Tong Boon is currently the Chief Defence Scientist, Deputy Secretary (Technology &
Transformation) as well as the Chief Research & Technology Officer of the Singapore Ministry of
Defence. Prior to this, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the DSO National Laboratories from
January 1998 to January 2004. He graduated from the University of Cambridge, UK in 1977 with a
BA(Hons) in Engineering and Masters of Arts (Engineering) in 1981. In 1985, he obtained his Masters
of Science in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS). From Aug-Nov
95, he attended the Program for Management Development (PMD) at the Harvard Business School.

After completing his full time National Service in 1980, he joined the Defence Science Organisation,
then a MINDEF organisation. He held various appointments in the organisation, including that of Head
of Systems and Simulation Branch, Head of the Guidance and Control Laboratory, Divisional Manager
(Dynamics Division), and Deputy Director (Technology). From June 1994 to 31 Dec 1997 he was the
Director of the Defence Materiel Organisation.

In 1989, a DSO development project which he led became the inaugural winner of the Defence
Technology Prize (Team) for establishing a major capability for the SAF. In the same year, he was
awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze). In 1996, he was awarded the Public
Administration Medal (Silver).

Since 1995, he had served on several boards, including that of the Board of Singapore Telecoms, the
Singapore Productivity and Standards Board (PSB), the Singapore Science Centre Board, the Building
and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Nanyang Polytechnic Board of Governors. He is currently a
member of the DSO National Laboratories Board, the Defence Science and Technology Agency
(DSTA) Board, the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*Star) Board, the Intellectual
Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) Board, and the Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd.

He is also involved in several National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological
University (NTU) management boards and consultative committees.

His professional interests include defence technologies and management of technology. He is also an
Adjunct Professor at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the National University of
Singapore.
