Death Penalty has been a talked about issue for a very long time now. The debate
regarding death penalty does not come to an end because of how our society progresses relative
to how citizens’ think and percept things nowadays. Furthermore, it touches the issues regarding
human life, human dignity, governance, societal peace, the common good, just regulation of law
and peace which makes it very complicated to put into conclusion. Because of these
complications, it is reasonable why our society is roughly divided in their opinions; whether
death penalty must be implemented or not. In my opinion, death penalty should be implemented
because it promotes a democratic nation that enhances law-abiding of citizens, it decreases
crime, it protects innocent people and promotes humanity.
First of all, death penalty still promotes a democratic nation but with a more strict
compliance to the law. Someone who is against death penalty would say that death penalty
results to a totalitarian society. No, because in death penalty, we still promote freedom,
democracy and free-will to the citizens but it will help them to abide more to the law. It is not
necessary for a leader to be a dictator to make death penalty effective in a certain country. You
can implement death penalty whilst preserving the free-will that people have among themselves.
Second, it decreases crime. People would say that it does promote crime because people would
think that if the government does killings then why should not they do it to. No, because in death
penalty, the government reduces the people who commit crimes and present to the innocents the
consequences that they will face if they would chose to do crime. It would encourage citizens to
abide more to the law while getting rid of those who are not before they influence more people.
To prevent children from imitating killings from death penalty, proper education must be
implemented to young people to educate them that death penalty is only for those who do not
abide to the law and is not subject of imitation and practice. Third, it protects the innocents.
People would say that in our current state today, a lot of people are being killed because of our
government’s agenda of death penalty to crime doers especially drug handlers. In my defense, I
did not say anything that our country’s current state is a good representation of a good
implementation of death penalty. Death penalty protects the innocents in a sense that they reduce
the crime that might affect their security and hurt them while protecting their minds from being
encouraged to join criminal activity. Death penalty assures that people who abide to the law are
granted life and its free-will while remove life from people who, in the first place, do not respect
the law and the sanctity of life that is within those laws. Lastly, death penalty promotes
humanity. People against death penalty would say that killing is inhumane so there is no way that
death penalty is humane. Death penalty protects the lives of those innocent. If in the first place,
these criminals violated and disrespected the sanctity of life through killings and rape, do you
think that they are still human? The law is for the humans, but the crimes they did, is it humane
of them? No, since they violated the dignity of the human person, it makes them exempted from
it because they promote inhumane activity. And we should protect those who are doing good and
execute those who are doing bad for the sake of the common good.
I believe that death penalty is beneficial to our current society because of such reasons.
One of it is that it promotes a democratic nation wherein everyone still has their own free will
but has a stronger sense of law-abiding. It also decreases crime that promotes safety and well-
being of people. It protects people and lastly, it promotes humanity. I believe that death penalty
is the answer for implementing discipline in each and one of us that will lead to the progression
of our society where everyone fulfill their respective parts.
