Job Summary
The Grade 2 Registered Nurse (RN) position is a clinical role responsible for clinical outcomes under the direction of the
area Manager.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Clinical
 Practice safely within the profession and own scope of practice boundaries
 Demonstrate commitment to person-centred care, best practice standards and the Monash Health Nursing and
Midwifery Foundations of Care
 Ensure the delivery of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care to consumers
 Demonstrate and maintain competency in the performance of technical/clinical skills
 Conduct comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care in collaboration with the
consumer and the multidisciplinary team to achieve goals and health outcomes
 Monitor patients for critical changes and initiate appropriate emergency procedures
 Appropriately and promptly escalate any issues of concern
 Monitor systems to enable and ensure patients, consumers and residents receive appropriate nutrition care
 Establish and maintain effective communication with all other health professionals and support staff, consumers,
families, the community and external care providers
 Maintain accurate and current medical records ensuring documentation meets professional and legal standards
 In the clinical setting, ensure timely discharge planning and facilitate the consumer’s safe and effective transition
from hospital to home
 Conduct health promotion which enhance consumer health and well-being and also encourage and empower
consumers to participate in their health care
 Participate in the development of Nursing and Midwifery policies and procedures as required
 Collaborate with other health professionals to ensure the consumer’s safe and effective transition across the care
continuum and facilitate referrals to appropriate health resources and services
 Participate in multi-disciplinary family meetings as required
 Ensure consumer complaints are escalated to the Manager in adherence with the Monash Health Complaints
Management policies and procedures

 Maintains a record of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as per NMBA requirements
 Practice in accordance with the Monash Health Professional Development Framework for the area
 Demonstrate sensitivity, empathy and respect for the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of others at all times
 Contribute to the attainment and sharing of professional clinical expertise by networking with local, national and
international colleagues
 Perform as an advocate and promote an active partnership with patients, their carers and families to ensure safe
and effective person-centred care
 Advocate for Nursing and Midwifery within the organisation
 Act as a professional advocate for Monash Health

Financial Management
 Ensure there is financial responsibility and accountability across the functions under the position’s control
 Develop and implement financial strategies that will ensure budgetary targets and key performance indicators are

 Identify opportunities to reduce costs and effectively manage resources across all functions

Quality and Safety


 Ensure compliance with Australia’s National Safety and Quality Healthcare Standards
 Demonstrate commitment to developing, promoting and progressing continuous quality improvement
initiatives as directed by manager
 Ensure delivery of safe and effective person-centred care
 Identify clinical risk issues and areas for improved clinical outcomes
 Recognise and manage risk, and ensure that actions are taken to prevent and minimise harm to consumers and
the healthcare workforce
 Participate and cooperate in consultative processes to improve health and safety and reduce risk to the safety and
well-being of staff
 Ensure adherence to organisational standards and mandatory education including but not limited to Medication
Safety, Infection Control, Hand Hygiene, Basic Life Support, Risk Management and Occupational Health & Safety
 As we support a culture of safety and quality through employee immunisation, there must be documentation
provided confirming completed immunisation on employment at Monash Health

Human Resources
 Participate in unit/team meetings and education sessions in alignment with the Nursing and Midwifery governance
structure to promote and maintain communication and improved practice
 Ensure effective communication processes to facilitate effective information flow
 Ensure compliance with Monash Health policies and procedures relating to appropriate workplace behaviour

Privacy and Confidentiality


 Adhere to legislation pertaining to privacy and confidentiality and the handling of personal information

Person Specification
Qualifications/Registrations/Licences

 Registered with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA


 Demonstration of appropriate competencies and skills
 Current and satisfactory Police Check (must also comply with Aged Care Act 1997 Accountability Amendment
Principles 2012 if working in Aged Care settings)
 Current and satisfactory Working With Children Check as per Working With Children Act 2005

Other Position Requirements


 Ability and flexibility to work across multiple Monash Health sites as required
 Ability and flexibility to work a rotating roster across day, evening and night duty shifts as required
 Participate in the annual performance enhancement process and complete all mandatory and role specific
competencies
 Proficient computer skills
 Current Victorian Drivers Licence and vehicle an advantage (A travelling allowance is payable at the current rate
per kilometre)
 Ability to travel if required
 Successful applicants new to Monash Health will be required to enter into an Employment Agreement prior to
commencement
 Monash Health is a smoke free environment and compliance is essential
