Background:
Diesel – Class II Combustible liquid (flash point of diesel is generally 55-60 deg C)
Storage Tank – Vertical storage tank as shown in provided attachment.

Discussion:
Diesel storage tank doesn’t require fixed fire suppression system in accordance with NFPA 30, 22.8.2.
Following points to be highlighted in this regard:
 Fire hydrants around tanks shall be provided as exposure protection.
 Tanks shall be located maintaining the distance indicated in the Table 22.4.1.1(a) of NFPA 30.
 Tank installation must be full compliance to the chapter 22 of NFPA 30.
 Tank diking shall be provided in accordance with NFPA 30, 22.11.
 Diesel flash point to be verified considering the fact that ambient temperature in Qatar may
reach up to 50 deg C.

In addition to the NFPA 30, Qatar Fuel (WOQOD) requirement must be followed for tank installation and
fire protection for tanks.
