INTRODUCTION

The story of Indarapatra and Sulayman was written by Bartolome Del Valle, also

known as “Ome”. He is a filipino- Spanish writer from Mindanao. Bartolome was born on

September 18, 1941. Bartolome had sibling, Felipe. In the year 1960 he married Ana

Rodrigo Perez and gave birth to Antonia Burgueno Siquenza Guttierez Valle. In the year

1725 Bartolome died at the age of 83. Bartolome had been residing in Mindanao,

Pilippinas. He wrote the famous epic story “Indaraptra and Sulayman”. This story was all

about the fight of King Indarapatra’s brother Sulayman to the monsters, The four huge

and strong monster. This story is an adventurous type story, as the character Sulayman

encountered a lot of challenges to save his kingdom against the monsters that reign and

destroy their peaceful place. Even if how hard it is to fight with those evil creatures he

didn’t hesitate to accomplish what he has set. I adore the character of Sulayman

because he is a brave person, obedient to his King and without any mental reservation,

he sets to defend and protects his countrymen and for me that’s amazing. He has the

quality of being a hero.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Just like what I’ve said, the story Indarapatra and Sulayman is An adventurous

type epic story at the same time an inspiring story to many readers. Despite of the

challenges that Sulayman may encounter in fighting with the monster, he still follow his

heart and it is to save his kingdom from the evil creatures. According to Robison

Taglucop the monsters represents the life challenges of Sulayman. The story of
Indarapatra and Sulayman gave me moral lesson to take a risk and face any problem

bravery just like what Sulayman did fighting with the monsters. The story is great and

interesting as well. I do appreciate the story.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS

The Indarapatra and Sulayman is all about the fight of Indarapatra’s

brother to the monsters and it showed us that if you need something, sometimes

sacrifices must be made in order for us to achieve what we want. Just like what

Sulayman did in the story. He sacrifice his self for his kingdom and it was priceless.

Indarapatra and Sulayman have both the quality of being a hero. It caught my attention

how Indarapatra and Sulayman loved their kingdom they both fight for it. They are

brave, optimistic, driven, powerful and strong. They both show the love for their

Kingdom. The story is written in a good way, the events are understandable and

Bartolome also uses some symbolisms to represent the different situations or to

describe something in the story such as; the plant, it serves as the life of Sulayman. The

ring, serves the luck in Sulayman’s journey. The sword serves as the weapon or tools in

killing the monsters. The genre of the story is epic and it is appropriate because

Indaraptra and Sulayman is a heroic story and it includes exciting events and also an

adventurous story.

The author’s purpose for writing the story is to give us a lesson, a lesson

that we shouldn’t be afraid of any challenges that may come in life, let’s take a risk, be
brave enough to do what is right for you and for other people as well. Don’t stay on your

comfort zone sometimes you gotta out of it and decide what is right and not what is

easy. Just like what Sulayman did in the story. Fighting with the monsters is not easy,

Sulayman may lose his life but Sulayman didn’t hesitate. The theme of the story is : “A

True Hero Is One Who Is Willing To Sacrifice So Others May Saved” this is exactly what

Sulayman did. The story has also a plot twist or unexpected events and that is when

Sulayman died. I didn’t expect that he will come back to life after what Indapatras did. I

thought It was the end, but it’s not. It is really a very interesting story, full of suspense

events.

CONCLUSION

The Indarapatra and Sulayman story showed a love for his country. The

story is also about making sacrifices, brave decisions or taking a risk. It has also a lot of

life lesson that you will learn in this story, that’s why I recommend this to everyone to

read. You may be a child, teen or adult you should read this. Everyone will surely love

this kind of story. A full of moral lesson story.
