2. TERMINOLOGY
2.1 For the purpose of this standard, the definitions of various terms given
in IS : 1956-1962* shall apply.
3. SUPPLY OF MATERIAL
4. MANUFACTURE
5. CHEMICAL COMPOSITION
5.2 The ingot or pig aluminium used for coating the wires shall not contain
more than the following impurities:
Percent
Copper 0.10
Iron 0.50
6.1 All finished wires shall be well and cleanly drawn to the dimensions
specified. The surface of the aluminized wires shall be free from splints,
scale inequalities ( see also Note in Table 4 ), flaws and other harmful
defects. The aluminium coating shall be continuous and of reasonably
uniform thickness.

10. JOINTS
10.1 The finished wire shall be free from any kind of joints made after
aluminizing.
10.2 Joints may be made in the hot rolled wire-rods or semi-finished wires
before or after patenting and prior to cold drawing, either by electric resist-
ance butt weldings or by flash butt welding process.

steel articles ( under preparation ) .

10.3 In case of welded joint, the tensile strength of finished wire containing
the welded section shall be not less than 90 percent of the tensile strength
specified in 7.
10.3.1 The test for proof stress at one percent extension shall not be
applicable to welded joints.
11. SAMPLING
11.1 Unless otherwise agreed, one test specimen shall be taken from each
lot of ten coils in the condition as aluminized and prior to splitting it into
individual coils.
12. RE-TEST
12.1 Should any one of the test pieces selected fail to pass any of the tests
specified in the standard, two further samples shall be selected for testing in
respect of each failure. Should the test pieces from these additional samples
pass, the lot represented by the test samples shall be deemed to comply with
the requirements of that particular test. Should the test pieces from either
of these additional samples fail, the lot represented by the test samples shall
be considered as having not complied with the standard. The lot may,
however, be resubmitted for testing every coil with a view to sorting out
the defective coils.

IS : 3835 - 1966
13.2 Each coil of wire shall bear a durable tag showing the nominal size
of wire, length and weight of coil, date of manufacture and trade-mark or
the name of the manufacturer.
13.3 The material may also be marked with the IS1 Certification Mark.
NOTE- The use of the IS1 Certification Mark is governed by the provisions of the
Indian Standards Institution ( Certification Marks ) Act, and the Rules and Regulations
made thereunder. Presence of this mark on products covered by an Indian Standard
conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements
of that standard, under a well-defined system of inspection, testing and quality control
during production. This system, which is devised and supervised by IS1 and operated
by the producer, has the further safeguard that the products as actually marketed are
