Course Number and Title: CEE 100: Introduction to Civil and Environmental
Engineering

Course Description (Catalog Description):

Introduction to Civil and Environmental Engineering. Definition and Classification of Civil and
Environmental Engineering. Discussion about the Scope & Pattern of Job as a Civil and Environmental
Engineer. Five major divisions of civil engineering, codes, ethics and professional responsibilities. Civil
Engineering activities and Issues related to sustainability.

Course Objectives:

The objective of this course is

1. Understand the fundamental concepts of Civil and Environmental Engineering, its branches,
activities and role in the society.

2. Understand the overall sustainability aspects of Civil and Environmental engineering.

3. Understand ethical aspect of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Course Outcomes (COs):

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to

CO 1. Know the historical aspect of Civil and Environmental Engineering, major branches and
activities.
CO 2. Understand the sustainability issues, i.e. relation of natural and environmental processes to
civil engineering activities.
CO 3. Recognize the value of maintaining ethical standards in Civil and Environmental Engineering
practices including codes, standards, professional bodies and legal aspects..
