SPECIALIZED CRIME INVESTIGATION

The Scenario:

Joaquin Ba-ho and Federico Angjit are workmates at Mahuna Steel Co. Ltd. One afternoon, the
duo together with the other employees decided to do some unwinding to ease up the hard day’s work.
While the group was enjoying their drinking session inside a resto-bar, Joaquin Ba-ho and the other
companion, Henry Bactol, had a heated verbal argument. The mockery uttered by Henry Bactol against
the person of Joaquin Ba-ho caused the latter’s best friend Federico Angjit irked. Thereafter, as the
misunderstanding pacified, the group continued their happenings until late hours of the night.
Subsequently, when the group departed ways to go home, Federico Angjit followed Henry Bactol along
the alley and even confronted the former about the argumentation ensued between them with his best
friend. Such event turned sour between the duo, thus resulted into a fist fight. Being an ex-boxer,
Federico Angjit were able to knock Henry Bactol down and caused its head slammed on the ground and
was subsequently hospitalized. The immediate relative of Henry Bactol, upon learning the incident, filed
complaint against Federico Angjit before the police authorities wherein case has been leveled against
Federico Angjit. However, after a week of stay in the hospital, Henry Bactol died caused by said head
injury. On the other hand, Federico Angjit invoked that his action was under the principle of self-defense,
hence the same is justified.

DIRECTION: Discuss briefly but thoroughly as you answer every questionnaire below. (10

QUESTIONS:

1. You were the investigator tasked to investigate the above-mentioned incident. What was the
criminal liability of Federico Angjit if there is any?

2. Following your findings on the matter, what made you conclude indicting the respondent for
such crime?

3. What is your stand about the allegations of Federico Angjit that he just acted on self-defense
and such should be considered as justified?

4. Assuming for the sake of argument that Federico Angjit’s intention was just to inflict
physical harm and not to kill Henry Bactol, is the former still liable for the death of the latter?

5. Give your thought on the circumstances wherein Federico Angjit followed and confronted
Henry Bactol in the alley and if the same has significance that would affect your investigative
findings.
