OXY2 developed by IIT-Madras
• A health startup at IIT Madras in joint collaboration with HELYXON has developed
a device called OXY2. This newly designed device can easily take vitals of an

individual such as heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation and respiration rate
clinically accurate. The device is made commercially available now and has
already been deployed to monitor 2000 patients a day in hospitals.

• The device which can be powered by the coin celled battery is designed in such a
way that it can be reused and recycled. It can be clipped on to a patient’s finger
and the data is sent to a mobile phone through radio waves. The captured data
can be seen through a mobile app and can be shared with the hospitals and
doctors if required.
EIA Notification 2020
• Upon Delhi High court interventions, The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change

(MoEF&CC) has finally extended the timeline for the public to review 80-page long draft on
Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) notification 2020. The recently released draft is created
with the intention of replacing the existing EIA notification 2006. This is for the second time
country will witness the change in the policy under the Environment Protection Act 1986.

• Background – In the year 1972 Stockholm Declaration on Environment was signed of which
India was also the one among the various signatories. Then in the year 1974 and 1981 India
enacted a law to control water and air pollution respectively. In the year 1984, the Bhopal Gas
leak disaster forced the nation to ponder upon the law again following which the government
launched the Environment Protection Act 1986. In the Environment Protection Act 1986 itself, it
was mentioned that the country will frame EIA norms which finally came into effect in the year
1994 and later modified by a draft in 2006. The EIA framework made a legal framework for
regulating any activities which pollute the environment.

• Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar released a book titled, “Siyasat Mein

Sadasyata” authored by Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary. The
book is a compilation of the author’s views, three dozen articles on different
important issues and his life journey. The book was published by Bihar Assembly
Secretariat.

• A book titled, “Vishesh: Code to Win” written by the sportswoman-turned-author Nirupama Yadav is expected
to be put out for the public view on August 29, 2020, the National Sports day. The book is the biography of

India’s Youngest Basketball Captain, Vishesh Bhriguvanshi and will be published by the Bluerose publishers.

• The Book narrates the journey of a young Indian basketball captain, Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, becoming the
captain of the team in a cricket-dominated nation.

• The objective of the book is to encourage the sports industry to focus more on developing games in India like
cricket so that the players get their due recognition.

• About Vishesh Bhriguvanshi

➢ Vishesh a 29 year old player from Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi has been playing basketball for the team
Indian since 2007 and has a 15 years of career now.

Government of AP Signs MoU with Hindustan Unilever Ltd, P&G and ITC to Support Economic
Empowerment of Women

• The state government of Andhra Pradesh signs a memorandum of Understanding

with three International FMCG (Fast-moving consumer goods) companies-
Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), ITC ltd., and Procter and Gamble (P&G) to provide
marketing and technological support for the economic empowerment of the
women and to make them self-reliant.

• The state government of Andhra Pradesh is set to launch two schemes YSR
Cheyutha and YSR Asara to support the empowerment of women.

• They will provide marketing opportunities and technology support for the women
under the schemes
Government of AP Signs MoU with Hindustan Unilever Ltd, P&G and ITC to Support Economic
Empowerment of Women

YSR Cheyutha:
• The YSR Cheyutha scheme is set to launch on 12th August 2020, to support the women of the

minority groups (SC, ST, BC) aged between 45 and 60.

• Financial assistance of Rs. 18,750 per annum that is Rs. 75,000 for four years will be provided to
the women under the scheme to support them to become self-reliant and change their economic
status.

• Under this scheme around Rs. 4,500 crores will be distributed.

YSR Asara:
• YSR Asara is set to be launched in September 2020, which will benefit around 90 lakh women of
around 9lakh self-help groups.

• Under this scheme around Rs. 6,700 crores will be distributed.

UK to mint coin in remembrance of Gandhi Ji
• Amid growing interest in recognizing the contributions of people from the BAME

community (Black, Asian and minority ethnic) Britain is considering minting a coin
to remember Mahatma Gandhi.

• Rishi Sunak Britain’s current Finance Minister issued an order in a letter to the
Royal Mint Advisory Committee (RMAC) to pursue recognition of individuals from
the BAME community. Taking a step ahead in following the order RMAC will mint
a coin to commemorate Gandhi.
US imposed restrictions on H1B Visa
• US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that bans federal agencies from hiring
foreign workers especially those on H-1B visa on contracting or subcontracting.

• The unprecedented move is followed by a month old announcement by the Trump government on
June 23 where the administration announced that the H-1B visas along with other types of foreign
work visas will remain suspended until the end of 2020 to protect American workers in a crucial
election.

• New rule – The new order makes it compulsory for all federal agencies to carry out an internal
audit to assess whether they are in compliance with the requirement of appointing only US
citizens and nationals to competitive service. The US Department of Labor will also issue
guidance to prevent H-1B employers from moving H-1B workers to other employer’s job sites to
displace American workers.

RBI Approved Sashidhar Jagdishan as Next MD & CEO of HDFC Bank

The Reserve Bank of India(RBI) has approved Sashidhar Jagdishan as the next
Managing Director(MD) and Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of HDFC Bank for a

period of 3 years, effective from the date of taking charge i.e., October 27, 2020
under Section 35B of the Banking Regulation Act 1949.

He will succeed Aditya Puri, the bank’s longest serving CEO(26 years- since
September 1994).

Aditya Puri will retire on October 26, 2020, on attaining the age of 70.

India gave nod to Indian Premier League 2020 in UAE

• GoI has given the go ahead for 13th edition of Indian Premier League to be rescheduled in the

United Arab Emirates from September 19 to November 10, 2020. The Board of Control for Cricket
in India has got “verbal clearance” from the Government and will receive the official letter in a day
or two.

• The squad size of each franchise is capped at 24 players.

• Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah will be the three venues of the tournament. No spectators to be
allowed in the initial phase of the tournament.

• Final will be held on November 10, 2020, which will be the first-ever weekday final in the history of
the tournament.

• Women’s T20 Challenge (Challenger series) to be held from November 1 to 10.

• Formula One Champion Mercedes Lewis Hamilton of Britain won British Grand

Prix 2020 (officially known as the Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix 2020) held
at the Silverstone Circuit in Silverstone, UK. By this win, he created record by
winning the British Grand Prix title 7th time. He is the only racer to win most in
British GP.
