IS /
Se usa "there is" / "there are" con cuantificadores para describir cantidades de
sustantivos sin usar números.

Ejemplos:

-THERE IS:
Se usa para sustantivos que están en singular.
-There is a/an:
-There is a chair.
-There is an apple.

o There is some milk.
o There is a book.
o Is there enough coffee?
o There isn’t any money.

-THERE ARE:

Se usa para sustantivos que están en plural.


There are 10 apples.
There are 2 chairs.

o There are some chairs.
o Are there many people?
o There aren’t enough eggs.

SUSTANTIVOS

There are two types of noun: countable and uncountable nouns.

 Sustantivos contables (COUNTABLE NOUNS): Un sustantivo que se puede contar


usando números. Sólo los sustantivos contables pueden ser plurales (más o
menos de uno):
o "one chair" (singular)
o "zero eggs" (plural)
o "hundreds of people" (plural)

 sustantivos incontables (UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS): Un sustantivo que no se


puede contar usando números.
o "water"
o "time"
o "money"

 THERE IS: con sustantivos contables en singular y con los sustantivos


incontables.

THERE ARE: con sustantivos contables en plural.
NEGATION:

 THERE IS:

There is not : there isn’t

-There isn’t any milk.


-There isn’t a pencil.

 THERE ARE:

There are not: there aren’t

-There aren’t any rubbers.


-There aren’t any eggs.

INTERROGATIVE:
 THERE IS:

Is there any milk? Yes, there is. No, there isn’t.

Is there a pencil? Yes, there is. No, there isn’t.

 THERE ARE:

-Are there any rubbers? Yes, there are. No, there aren’t.

-Are there any eggs? Yes, there are. No, there aren’t.

PAST

THERE IS : THERE WAS

There is an apple on the table. Hay una manzana sobre la mesa.

There was an apple on the table. Había una manzana sobre la mesa.

THERE ARE : THERE WERE

There are two apples on the table. Hay dos manzanas sobre la mesa.

There were two apples on the table. Había dos manzanas sobre la mesa.
