COURSE NAME Elementary Statistics and Probability

COURSE CREDITS 3 Units

Elementary Statistics and Probability. This is a 3- unit


introductory course that explores basic knowledge and
skills in solving mathematical problems, gathering data
and giving an interpretation based on what information
COURSE DESCRIPTION
is acquired. It covers the following; reasons for doing
statistics, collection, summarization and presentation of
data, basic concepts in probability, point and interval
estimation and hypothesis testing.

CONTACT HOURS/ WEEK 3 hours

1. Demonstrate knowledge of the basic terms,


concepts, and procedures in statistics.

2. Use appropriate methods of data collection and


presentation.

3. Summarize data using different numerical


measures.
COURSE OUTCOMES
4. Apply rules of probability in handling
probability sample distributions.

5. Analyze data resulting from the conduct of


experiment.

6. Guard against misuses of statistics.

Tests of Hypothesis
- Basic concepts of statistical hypothesis testing
- Testing the hypothesis on the population mean
Week 11-13 - Testing hypothesis on the population proportion
- Testing the difference of two mean
