OVERVIEW

Dr. Rehan Khan is affiliated with the academic domain of Mechanical Engineering, since November 2013. He
completed M.S. Mechanical from Air University, Islamabad (2013-2016) in Fluid Power Engineering, and
subsequently earned a doctoral degree with Graduate on Time status from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS,
Malaysia (2017-2020). Earlier, after his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering from Air University,
Islamabad (2009-2013), he worked as a lab engineer for three years (2013-2016) and lecturer of mechanical
engineering at The University of Lahore, Islamabad for four years (2016-2020). His current research interests
are in numerical/experimental modeling of the erosion-corrosion process, computational fluid dynamics
analysis, predictive modeling, and tribology.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Multiphase flows, Wear of Materials, Failure Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics. Finite element analysis,
non-linear contact mechanics, Discrete element modeling, Predictive modeling, Machine learning, Erosion-

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

2017-2020: Ph.D. Research: Development of semi-empirical sand fines erosion model for elbows in
liquid-solid and slug flow

 To evaluate and develop semi-empirical models of the sand fines erosion for different flow velocities,
particle concentration on the long radius elbows of steel experimentally, and by simulating the liquid-
solid erosion process using the discrete phase model.

2013-2015: MS Research: Modeling and simulation of flow-induced vibrations in wind turbine tower

 To study the vortex shedding phenomena by varying the taper angle of the wind turbine tower. FSI is
performed to know the maximum deformation and stresses, response frequencies, and amplitudes of the
wind turbine tower.
