Non-Connected Systems1

If the lab does not have a connected system, power off all devices nightly using the established shut
down procedures in this guide. IMPORTANT: Do not shut down the ICIII without first post-op’ing
printers and scanners configured with the system. Proper shut down requires post-op of these devices
prior to clicking the exclamation mark button on the MS01 interface.

Connected Systems

Not all hardware components in a Fujifilm retail lab system should be shut-down nightly. Use the
following guidelines to ensure that your lab system’s components run properly.

Non-connected systems have no Internet connectivity and no communication with outside networks. A
connected MS01 system is a system that receives data from Fujifilm’s fullfilment network, sends data to
Fujifilm’s fullfilment network, and receives orders from various sources (such as retailers’ photo Web
sites). This is all accomplished via Internet connectivity.

Chapter 4: Express Variety Print Software Support
Overview
After the Express Variety Print Software is installed the MS01 system, the MS01 can print Express Varity
Print templates on whole roll orders. MS01’s Compose feature has been improved to accommodate the
Express Variety Print Software (EVP).

These include:

Product name reconciliations (see below).

Cropping images for whole roll products (see page 24).

Alleviating disk space usage issues (see page 25).

Product Name Reconciliations

Issue Product names stored on the MS01 Server and a Workstation are different if using the
EVP software. Additionally, templates may not be stored using the same names when
they are created.

Resolution During the process of converting EVP templates to MS01 templates, the
operator/technician will now have the opportunity to select the appropriate MS01
product that will be associated with the EVP template.

During the conversion process, when there is more than one product that can be
associated with an EVP template, the Choose Product dialog box opens and prompts
the user to choose which product to associate with the converted template.

(This example shows the template ptext-05-5r is being converted.)

In addition, the operator will be allowed to choose whether or not other templates of
the same size should be associated with the same product. This prevents the operator
from having to make a choice for every template converted during the EVP Import
process.

23
Cropping Images for Whole Roll Products

Issue Previews of composites are not available when using the EVP tool.

Resolution A new Preview and Crop dialog box has been created that allows the operator to crop
all of the images that are associated with the whole-roll product.

Each image is displayed within the border (single-aperture overlay) that is associated
with the whole-roll product.

Crop controls using the keyboard and mouse allow the operator to crop the image to
ensure proper print output.

24
Disk Space Issues

Issue C: and D: drive usage increases when using the EVP tool, therefore taking up the hard
disk space.

Resolution A new MS01 Maintenance application option is provided to allow

operators/technicians to delete templates that are no longer needed.

To access this feature, select 08 Products > 0809 EVP Border Template Deletion to
open the EVP Border Template Deletion dialog box.

The dialog box allows users to sort templates by name, print size, file size, template
installation date, and date last used. A preview of the template is displayed to enable
additional verification.

Chapter 5: Enhanced Epson Stylus Pro Wide-Format Printer
Support
Overview
Fujifilm has added enhanced support for Epson Stylus Pro wide format printers, including:

Newly-support Epson printer models (see below).

Banner printing functionality (see page 26).

Tile Rendering (see page 27).

Enhanced ICC Profile support (see page 29).

Refer to the Epson-specific Installation and Operation Guides provided with this software release for
additional details.

Support for Additional Printers, Sizes, and Surfaces

MS01 3.1 now supports four additional Epson Wide Format printer models:

Stylus Pro 7900: Supports up to 24-inch wide paper.

Stylus Pro 9880: Supports up to 44-inch wide paper.

Stylus Pro 9900: Supports up to 44-inch wide paper.

Stylus Pro 11880: Supports up to 64-inch wide paper.

MS01 3.1 also supports installation of dual (two) Epson printers per computer on the MS01 system.

Bordered products will only be supported by 11, 12, 20, and 60-inch paper widths.

Additional surfaces will be added to MS01 version 3.1. These include PearlRoll, SatinCanvasRoll,
AquarellRoll, TalbotRoll, ScrimVinyl, and PearlPosterBoard.

NOTE: MS01’s Product Setup feature will not allow the creation of whole roll products for large format
printers.

Banner Functionality
MS01 has been modified to take support production of banner prints via the Epson printers. Banners are
single or multi-aperture templates in which photos can be inserted. Banners can then be colored printed
using the Epson printers for events such as graduations, birthday parties, etc.

26
Image Rendering
MS01 will be updated to support production of larger print products.

When creating a new product, the

user can navigate in the
Maintenance application to 0802
Print Size Setup > Advanced
Options dialog box.

Override render DPI controls have

been added enabling users to set
the rendering resolution. Valid
entries in this field range from 1 to
360.

NOTE: This will only occur if rendered using MS01’s Compose or Quick Print features; this will not be
supported to whole roll processing.

For example, MS01 now performs rendering as follows:

1. If the image file is greater than what the file size of the page would be at 360 DPI, then the
software renders to the page size because there is no need to send this large image file to the
printer when the product itself at 360 DPI is less than the image size. (For example, you
wouldn’t want to send a 150 MB file to the Epson printer when the product at 360 DPI is only 40
MB.)
2. If the operator sends a large file to the printer instead of a 15 MB file, they can go into Render
DPI setting and put a value from 1 to 360 to get a larger rendered file, but this adds to the
network traffic and slows down printing to the Epson.
3. There is also built-in error checking. There is a limit to the rendered file size of 275 MB that can
be sent to the printer. Therefore, given a certain product, if the operator puts in a DPI that will
cause the rendered product file to exceed 275 MB, warning opens and MS01 will not allow the
user to put in a value larger than what would make a 275 MB file. Any value below that limit will
work.

Enhanced Product Setup Support > Alignment
In the Maintenance application, in the 08 Products > 0802 Print Size Setup dialog box, there are now
controls that enable you to align Epson products. Once the Print Size Setup dialog box is open, and
after selecting an Epson product, the bottom of the dialog box displays the settings for the selected
product. Under the Output Devices group box, clicking the Product Alignment button opens the
Product Alignment dialog box.

(Note: If you have not selected an Epson product, the Product Alignment button will not display.)

This dialog box enables you to make customized adjustments regarding the placement of the image on
the product.

Enhanced ICC Profile Support
There are currently two different
ways of specifying the ICC profile
used with an Epson printer.

Default ICC profiles set for each

surface.

ICC Profiles for use with individual

papers that override the above-
referenced defaults, selectable via
the Printer Setup dialog box.

The Printer Setup dialog box has

been updated to display ICC profiles
for Epson and system printers by
default.

The Printer Setup dialog box now displays a Color Management group box. These controls enable
users to edit the profiles, but only when the dialog box is opened while pressing-and-holding the <Ctrl>
keyboard key.

The Color Management controls allow you to set profiles for either an individual paper size or for all
sizes of a given surface. For each paper in the Printer Setup dialog box screen, if a profile is set for it, it
shall be displayed in the profile setting. If not, the profile set for the given surface shall be displayed.

Color Profile text box and Browse This control provides the user with a means of selecting an ICC
button: profile from the file system to associate with a given surface or
paper. Selection is secure and filters only on ICC and ICM files.

After a profile is selected via this method, the selected file and its
path is displayed in the Color Profile text field. The ICC profile
will be associated with the given paper. The changes are saved
when the user clicks OK.

Intent drop-down menu: This control lists rendering intents.

Note: Currently, only the Perceptual option is supported.

Apply to all paper with this surface This control provides the user with a means of linking a profile to
button all papers of a given surface.

When this button is clicked, the ICC displayed shown in the Color
Profile text box is then associated with the selected paper’s
surface. The Paper Sizes list box is then updated to reflect this.
The changes are saved when the user clicks OK.

Chapter 6: Duplex Printing Support
Overview
MS 3.1 now supports the creation of duplex products. These are products that are printed on both sides
of the paper.

NOTE: If you would like to print duplex products, duplex products will need to be created in MS01.
However, duplex products can only be ordered from external applications such as MS optional software
(MS12, MS13, MS14, MS19 and kiosks).

Changes to MS01 to support duplex include:

 View Orders application window changes (see page 31).

 New Product Setup options (see page 32).

 Panda-related changes (see page 34).

 Request Spooler Processing Queue-related changes (see page 36).

 FrontMan-related changes (see page 38).

 Digital Link Request Spooler changes (see page 39).

 Known Issues regarding the duplex feature (see page 40).

Also, refer to Understanding Duplex Print Output (page 40) to understand how these two-sided products
come out of a printer. This affects how you assemble the product.

FrontMan

The FrontMan window shall be

updated to display the dual-sheet-
input configuration for Frontier
printers with duplex paper loaded.

Duplex magazines shall be indicated

via a new “duplex sheet” icon

FrontMan’s Dashboard window shall be updated to

display duplex sheets.

Launched by double-clicking the printer device in Panda, a dialog box

named after the printer enables you to perform separator sheet
configurations.

The dialog box has been added to allow the setting of the separator
sheet style for the DL 450 printer. A Sort Limit (meaning sort count)
can be set, and Separator options include None, Promo Print,
Summary Sheet, and Index Print. By default, the Enabled radio
button is selected.

A separator sheet can be disabled, enabled, or enabled only for

duplex prints.

The separator sheet specified in this dialog box shall be generated at the end of each print set. For
example, if a sort limit of 30 is specified and an order with 50 images is processed, separator sheets shall
be generated at the thirtieth and fiftieth prints. The rendering code ensure that only even-numbered
duplex jobs are produced, so that the separator sheet won’t be printed on the back of a customer print.

Known Issues with Duplex
Next Paper Needed > Sheet Paper
When duplex sheet paper on the DL 450 needs to be loaded, the message displayed in the Next Paper
Needed field may prompt the user to unload roll paper instead of sheet paper even though duplex is
supported only with sheet paper. Therefore, ifyou are being instructed to load duplex paper, ignore the
unload directive posed by the software if it is not a currently‐loaded sheet paper.  Next, ensure that
there is nothing waiting or printing in Panda that requires the currently‐loaded sheet paper.  You can
then unload the currently‐loaded sheet paper and load the requested sheet paper.

Kiosk Digital Image Rotations

On Fujifilm TS kiosk systems, the digital images used in the duplex product are already rotated by the
kiosk software before the completed product transitions over the MS01 software. Therefore, the duplex
setting in the product file is not set to rotate for a calendar product. However, if using a kiosk other than a
Fujifilm TS kiosk, the product file should have the selection 2-sided (Flip Like Calendar) selected. (Note:
To access this option, you first have to select Output Device > Duplex.)

Understanding Duplex Print Output

When you are printing and producing duplex products, it is important to understand how the prints come
out of the printer. This enables you to properly construct the end product, such as a photo book.

Single-Quantity Output

When printing a duplex product with the quantity of one (1), the prints come out of the printer in the
following order.

Multi-Quantity Output

When printing more than one of the same duplex product, the prints come out of the printer in the
sequence depicted below. The prints come out in a collated order.

Remaking Part of a Duplex Product

Sometimes, you will need to remake part of a duplex product once it has been printed, but it is costly to
remake the entire product. Follow instructions below to remake only a single page (meaning the front and
back).

1 From the View Orders screen, locate, select, and open the order that contains the product that
needs a page remade.

2 When the order opens, locate the partial-roll thumbnail that you wish to remake a subset of prints.

3 Right-click the partial-roll thumbnail.
