POST-PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT 2

Post-Philosophy Statement

From my previous philosophy statement, I had written as to why I would want to

be an education major. I answered, “it is because I want to be a part of something great”. Is that

statement still true after taking an introduction class? Did my pre-philosophy changed from my

personal philosophy? I’d say my statement did change. At first, I wanted to be an educator

because I wanted to be a part of something great. Now, after going through a field observation

and sitting down alongside a teacher watching her interact with her students, I could have not

been more excited in starting my career in education. I know this is the right career path for me,

just as how I felt on my pre-philosophy statement earlier in the semester. As I was observing my

cooperative teacher and her students, I felt that her students, even despite of a pandemic, was still

as engaged as if the students were in a physical classroom. One student even thanked the teacher

after one of the Google Meet sessions just for simply helping him out with one of the assigned

classwork the teacher provided. The student asked the teacher if they were ever going to be back

to the school one day. This student couldn’t be any more excited the day he goes back to school

and see his teacher and classmates. So, yes, I stand with my answer and I am a lot more eager to

have a classroom of my own one day.

During my field observation, I noticed that on some days, my cooperative teacher had

another teacher helping her out. It turned out to be a special education teacher. In a classroom of

twenty-five students, two are ELL and five are IEP. The special education teacher helps out

students who needs more help and attention. The teacher is also there to assist the main teacher

while she is hosting the Google Meet sessions. While I was a part of the live sessions, sometimes

it can be challenging to see if your students understand what you’re saying or even see if your

students have any questions by having their hands raised up. By having another pair of eyes, the

classroom setting can be less overwhelming for everybody.

My goals one day as an educator with special needs in my class is to have my students

know that I will be there for them as they go through this journey. I would them to know that

setting them all up for success is my main priority and that I will help my students in the best of

my ability as possible. Some advice that I received from my cooperating teacher was to be

creative and flexible. Having an open-mindset that is willing to change and adapt to upcoming

and un foreseen changes is a way to become a great educator because at the end of the day, your

students are your number one priority and how they do in class is imperative. The advice given

to me fits the qualities of a special educator teacher to have. I believe that all students can learn

as I also believe that every student learn differently. Having a teacher that cares for his or her

students is a big part of a students’ life. A way for teachers and educators does to improve the

education of students with special education needs is willingness and letting their students know

that they will be there whenever they need help. Educators will be there to support special

education needs by having experienced educators and providing teaching techniques as early as

possible.

All in all, having a various type of students can also benefits the students in the long run.

Each student can get exposed to other personalities and how they learn. Teaching each other to

be kind and respectful is one of the most powerful tools to learn and can go far in the long run.
