Learning strategy : Dual Coding
The learning strategy I chose is termed dual coding, it is the process of when
information is presented to us, it's often in the course of some quite visual: a
they must make it a habit to concentrate on those visuals and link them to the
text by explaining what they mean in their own words. Then, students can create
their own visuals of the concepts they're learning. This process reinforces the
concepts within the brain through two different paths, making it easier to retrieve
later. The text explains how using this strategy will help students, learn the
specified information, and help the data be retained. In such a lot of cases
information because it's not retained. Using Dual coding, you're giving your
students a chance to maximise their mentality and retain the maximum amount
as possible.
Dual coding is the process of mixing verbal materials with visual materials. There
are some ways to visually represent material, like with infographics, timelines,
remembering history, and a diagram may go alright with biology. The retrieval
practice involves recreating something you’ve learned in the past from your
memory, and thinking about it right now. The term elaboration often wants to
mean tons of various things. However, when we are talking about studying using
Spaced practice is the exact opposite of cramming. When you cram, you study
for an extended , intense period of your time on the brink of an exam. When you
space your learning, you're taking that very same amount of study time, and
spreading it out across a longer period of your time . I applied the concept of dual
Spaced Practice and visuals. I realized that students retain information better
In my project I decided to implement dual coding into my class and see if the
practice of dual coding changed the way my students were learning and retaining
when we were starting a brand new lesson. I wanted to start out fresh so I was
able to get the most accurate results possible. Normally I have students read
from their books and follow along with me while I am teaching. During this project
I have been presenting powerpoints with information and having students interact
with me this way during the lesson. I printed handouts and had students do
interactive group activities. I was able to notice that the overall participation in the
class went up and the grades of the student were starting to increase as well.
Students seem to relate better when given hands on and visual aids, It gives
them something tangible to touch and see. “ You probably have heard of
when you cater to the needs of the students, and meet them where they are.
When students are visual learners supplying aids visually would make all the
difference. When dealing with auditory learners it's best to create aids to help
them be successful.
One thing I would change would have to be, I would definitely try and incorporate
more data into my project, and I would do the analysis for a longer period of time.
I think my project went very well and was very successful, the students were
engaged and responded well to the idea of dual coding. Giving students both
verbal and visual aids make a big difference in the way they learn and retain
information.
I like the idea that this project brought to light Any way that will encourage students and
help them learn is a plus for me. To see my students excited about learning and their
education means everything to a teacher. Dual Coding is not something I had ever
learning new terms and theories and styles of learning and am able to apply it to my
classroom for the best interest of my students. I am beyond excited about this and
cannot wait to see what other learning opportunities I will be presented with and be able
to teach to my students.
