At first I express my deepest sense of gratitude to my supervisor Prof. Bipul Malakar, Retired
Professor of Department of Economics, Jadavpur University and co-supervisor Prof. Prafulla
Chakroborty, Retired Professor of Indian Statistical Institute for their valuable suggestions and
guidance, which led to the successful completion of the study. They have enlightened and
encouraged me to do the work with their broad views, new ideas and in depth knowledge.
