CPEC which is regarded as the heart of one belt one road initiative. It is suppose that this project
will uplift the economic and development programs in Pakistan and will help to boost its
economy and consequently will help Pakistan come out of the present economic crises as well.
The development projects will improves industries in Pakistan, energy and priotising transport
infrastructure. So for Pakistan this project is very important and needs to be completed on time
but unfortunately Pakistan is facing some internal and external hurdles in accomplishing this
project.
INTERNAL HARDLES- First of all there is a lack of law of order in Pakistan and also there is
unstable political system in Pakistan that is power oscillates between military and civilian
leaders as we have witness none of the civilian leaders hardly completed their tenure 2008 was
the latest period to the end of military rule with resignation of General Pervez Musharraf as
President and we have witnessed from that onward military has been pushed from center stage
in 2013 PPP lost from PMLN and the judiciary involvement by that time topple the elected PM
Nawaz Sharif. And when new government came the talks and progress of CPEC hibernated for at
least 6 months so the political structure in Pakistan delays this project. Also the no transparency
policy on CPEC raises political skepticism because Chinese president doesn’t want to make
information public regarding project this creates doubt both in civil and political class and the
parties like ANP, Baloch nationalists, raised serious objections to this project. Cultural
differences in CPEC partnership must also be addressed political leaders on one hand on ground
have developed good relations with each other but this is not enough alone their citizens across
the border must also be taken into considerations they have different culture, norms, way of
living, thinking so this may result in misunderstanding when Chinese co-operations will be
investing in Pakistan and this issue than could negatively affect CPEC project.
EXTERNAL HARDLES- CPEC is a cause of great worry for the enemies of Pakistan both within and
outside the territory .USA, India and Western world consider this project as a strategic moment
adopted by Pakistan in this modern world era they say as a result of this project Pakistan will
assume the central economic position in the whole region. And for the project to be collapsed
India have put their heads to design a new strategy to block this project forward march likewise
the International Media backed by the US and different lobbying groups chant the complete BRI
as one debt, one trap instead of one belt one road. As a result of these lobbying proxy wars and
terrorism started in Pakistan, the support of American CIA, Israeli Mossad and Indian Raw has
continuously been assisting the military groups and the arrest of Indian spy Kulbushan Yadav
was the biggest proof of India trying to create unrest in Baluchistan, this terrorism and religious
extremism is also a threat to the Chinese engineers working here in Pakistan for this project as
we have witnessed in May 2016, Chinese engineers in Karachi were attacked by Sindh
separatists so these kind of a situation threaten the Pakistan-Chinese plans of developing the
CPEC. Also India also to led down the CPEC project of Pakistan had started to fund for the
Iranian fund of Chabahar which they think will give a tough time to CPEC project.
Pakistan needs to overcome these issues for the timely and successful completion of the CPEC
which will uplift millions of Pakistanis out of poverty and misery and will economically boost up
Pakistan with different development projects.
