HAT BAND
1. CH 54 [ 58, 68, 78, 82, 94, 98, 102, 106 ].
Make sure the chain is not twisted, SS to first chain.

2. * SC to end of round. SS to first SC of round. Repeat * to 3 to 4 rounds total.

Hat Band can be made in a variety of stitches.

The SC can be worked into the back loops for a striped effect.
Or it can be worked in a HDC stitch or a criss cross stitch, any stitch as long as the
stitch count remains.

For a Wider Band: SC one or more rounds. Match hat stitch count if needed by
DEC by 4 stitches - 2 at front, 2 at back. Do not cut yarn.

3. Place band on hat so the last stitch of band sits either at center back or to one side.
Pull a good length of tail through to inside of hat. SS along both edges of band
through both band and body of hat, just above the FPSC round of brim and the
opposite edge. SS across band to work opposite edge.

12
Attach Band by SS through Hat & Band View from Inside of Hat

The number of stitches in the hat and the band are the same so you should have an
even, flat surface. Fasten off.

4. Another Option is to make one or more simple Chain Strings:

Chain the length needed to go around the base of hat and then about another
3 inches / 7.6 cm. Cut yarn. Weave ends back into chain, half up the chain then half
back towards the end. Tie a knot at each end hiding the end of the tail within the
knot. Place around hat and tie ends together. Make as many strings as wanted, tie the
numerous strings together. Tack onto hat.
