Introduction
In current scenario the world of supply chain organizations are becoming more concentrated
towards cost cutting and having efficient supply chain. However, very few organizations
focused on the ecological and environment friendly supply chain to conserve nature and think
about the long term development of supply chain incorporating it. Dell is one of the
organization which have done this over decades and build sustainable supply chain which is
eco-friendly in many aspects and give them added advantage also for the same. Although
taking this route is always challenging for any organization and so do for dell. This paper will
talk about the problem of fostering the innovative thinking within the corporation and how
dell has led the solid platform to achieve their goals of sustainability and bringing
improvement in their supply chain.
Dell is the American multinational in the domain of computer technology which made and
sell computer related products along with the provision of the services and repair. With
16.8% market share dell is at the 3 rd position in space of computer product selling and
providing the services. Dell currently ships over 48 million units in a year all over the
globe[ CITATION STA20 \l 1033 ]. Business of such a scale only in PC shipments demand a
huge supply chain establishment along with proper routing of the product in manufacturing to
keep all quality at place while development including the environmental aspect.
Dell challenges
Dell in search of the best end to end product using innovative supply chain have the daunting
challenge of ensuring the environmental responsibility and incorporating the sustainability
into every aspect of their operations and functioning. They need to ensure that all the
manufacturing process is as much environment friendly and ecological sustainable which can
reform the future use of their product manufacturing.
Dell approach and recognition

Dell initially began with the internal functioning and try to reduce first all the external supply
factor to incorporate the sustainable and ecological product sourcing which they have done
by having only those product which are environment friendly, can be recycled and reused.

Secondly they have reduced the non- IT waste where they have reduced the waste which are
generated externally such as packaging, at last they have established IT assets disposing at
the end of the product life, so that the product can be reused at their dispense. These all
changes help dell to foster innate self-belief of the change possibility and it can be started
with identifying the key areas. They have established design thinking team process which is
basically made to motivate the employees of the company to come and showcase their talent
in the field of design to reduce the harmful substance use and designing eco-friendly
products. Dell tied hands with suppliers, and outside experts for the same keeping in mind
that these are people who can help them with internal as well as external support to help them
achieve their objective successfully. Programmes such as closed-loop recycling, wheat straw
boxes use in packaging, and advanced recycling and composability have helped them to
ensure environment friendly standards to great extent.

This path not only dell is establishing the standards but now they have become the industry
pioneer to guide the industry towards the same objective. They were accolated with many
awards in the field of environment sustainability and even their supply chain is uniquely

reduced the amount of volatile organic compound form their product by over 19% in
notebooks and 57% in desktops and other hardware on annual basis.
After the successful transformation of the products and achieving 2020 legacy of goods, dell
has achieved the great deal of success in not only lowering their cost but even achieving
quality standard of their product. They achieved over 92% efficiency in terms of the
packaging, even their quality constraints were also taken in the industry including some of
the practices this shows the success they have achieved with this.
Dell could have even look for opportunities in field of transferring the facility in the lower
develop region of the across the country in other parts of the world too, this will not only help
sustaining their objective of sustainability but also revitalize the city. Using major parts of
electricity through renewable sources is other way in which they can protect environment.
Critically examining various parts used in buildings and changing them with ecological
products such as light bulb, drinking bottles[ CITATION MAR13 \l 1033 ]. Inducing the less

transportation in terms of ordering, manufacturing, shipping and other supply chain can
reduce the waste significantly and even doing most of assembly and manufacturing in-house
can lower their cost as well as sustain the environment.
Conclusion
So dell has made sure that the world of technology also imbibe the environment sustainability
culture and with their transformation in the manufacturing process, supply chain operations
they have gained result significantly. They have taken some of the organizational change
along with proactive measures with internal and external agents to ensure that the path
towards the 2020 achieving the legacy of goods is intact.
