What is Erasmus+ ?
Erasmus+ is the European Union (EU) programme for education, training, youth and
sport for the period 2014 - 2020. Erasmus+ funds academic mobility and cooperation
projects that involve partners from "Programme Countries" and "Partner Countries"
throughout the world. The 33 programme countries comprise the 28 EU Member
States plus five other European countries. Erasmus+ supports activities that are
closely matched with the EU's priorities for cooperation policy with partner countries
and regions .Three years into the programme, we can see how popular these
initiatives are with countries from the region.

International Credit Mobility

For over 30 years, students and staff have moved between European universities in
the Erasmus programme. Since 2015, Erasmus+ has also allowed short - term and
long - term mobility to Europe from other parts of the world for students, researchers,
and staff. This two - way mobility allows students to study in a foreign university for 3
- 12 months and obtain credits which are then recognized at the sending institution as
part of their degree. A grant for staff mobility is also possible for 5-60 days.
There are distinct budgets for different regions of the world that are divided between
all the European countries. Programme-Country institutions make up bilateral
partnerships with universities from ACP countries and apply on behalf of their
partners.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMDs) award EU-funded scholarships to

Master students from around the world that cover covering tuition, travel, and a living
allowance. The programmes last from one to two years during which students study
in at least two different European countries, and obtain a joint, double degree, or
multiple degree. Institutions from partner countries can also be part
of the consortia that deliver these programmes (though this is not obligatory) as Full
Partners, which means they officially award degrees, or as Associated Partners,
where they participate in the programme in some kind of capacity, but do not award
the actual joint degree.

Erasmus Program Scholarship

The Erasmus programme the premier scheme for students throughout the world who
wish to study aboard in Europe, comes with a series of possible scholarship that are
designed to aid the students in getting the placement they want. Students are split into
categories for consideration as scholarship candidates. Any student of any nationality.
Studying at a higher education in situation which is awarded the Erasmus Charter for
Higher Education can apply. The mobility is carried out in the framework of prior "inter-
institutional agreements" between the sending and receiving institutions. Therefore, the
decision on where to go should be discussed with the sending Higher Education
Institution and the first step for the students would be to apply to their international
office and/or Erasmus+ office to get information about the possibilities of studying or
doing a traineeship, aboard as well as the modalities to apply and to receive an
Erasmus+ EU grant. Also Available are scholarship for students from within the EU who
are required to contribute to their funding to some degree.

Support be provided or fees charged?

Students may be awarded an Erasmus+ EU grant to help cover the travel and subsistence costs
incurred in connection with their study period abroad.

Erasmus+ students - whether or not they receive an Erasmus+ EU grant - are exempted from
paying fees for tuition, registration examinations and access to laboratory and library facilities
at the host institution.

The payment of any national grant or loan to outgoing students should be maintained during
the study period abroad.
The countries that grant a full scholarship for Ethiopian students for march
2019 intake are Italy, Germany, and Sweden. Director of Erasmus and UK National Agency
Jane Racz Signed the official Letter that grant 75 Ethiopian students to Study in the above
countries.

Italy scholarship

In Italy, all international students are entitled to the same financial assistance services as
Italian students based on same requisites of financial means and/or merit. There are
government scholarships at the national and regional level to which international students can
apply for. Moreover, some Italian Universities offer Italian scholarship programs for
international students.

 Italian Government Scholarships for Foreign Students

The Italian Government awards scholarships for studying in Italy both to foreign
citizens and Italian citizens resident abroad (IRE). The scholarships are offered for
the following type of courses: Master’s Degree Courses of Higher Education in Arts,
Music, and Dance (AFAM), PhD program, Research under academic supervision
and Italian Language and Culture Courses. The scholarship includes tuition fees,
health insurance and a monthly allowance. It is only possible to apply for three, six,
or nine month scholarships.
 The “Invest your Talent in Italy” programme, supported by the Italian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and by the Italian Ministry for Economic Development, offers
students from Azerbaijan, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran,
Kazakhstan, Mexico, Turkey, Tunisia, and Vietnam the opportunity to develop their
skills and specialize through a range of Master’s and postgraduate degree courses in
English, in the fields of Engineering, Advanced Technologies, Architecture, Design,
Economics and Management at prestigious Italian universities. The best students will
be offered scholarships, sponsored by partners and main corporate sponsors.
 EDISU Piemonte Scholarships
Students including non-EU international students enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s
degree, Master’s degree, Single Cycle Master’s degree, or PhD Degree courses at one
of the Universities of Piedmont (i.e. The Politecnico of Torino, the University of
Torino, the University of Eastern Piedmont) can apply for EDISU scholarships if they
meet the merit and economic requirements of the competition. Part-time students
can apply if enrolled in a bachelor’s degree. The scholarship amount
varies depending on many conditions. Accommodation service can also be granted to
non-resident students.

 Politecnico di Torino International Scholarships

The Politecnico di Torino offers scholarships to international students to attend academic
programs in certain fields such as Engineering and Architecture.

 University of Padova Scholarships for All Degree Courses

The University of Padova can handle regional funds to finance low-income students, both
Italian and foreign, who have a good academic record and pursuing a degree at the
University. The scholarship consists partly of money and partly of services, such as
accommodation or meals at the University canteens.

For 2018/2019, the University of Padova also offers the Padova International Excellence
Scholarship Programme which provides full scholarships to highly talented prospective
students wishing to pursue a first-cycle or second-cycle degree taught in English at
Padova.

 Scuola Normale Superiore PhD Scholarships

Scuola Normale Superiore is offering 78 fully funded PhD scholarships to both Italian
citizens and students from outside Italy. All students admitted to the PhD program receive
full financial support including tuition, fees, and a cost-of-living scholarship

Germany Scholarships
Not only is Germany one of the cheapest study destinations in Europe, the nation also
has an impeccable international reputation. Home to many esteemed universities within
the latest QS World University Rankings, Germany offers a growing number of English-
taught programs, particularly at postgraduate level.

Below is a selection of scholarships for international students of all degree levels

Government-funded scholarships to study in Germany

 DAAD Scholarships – The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers many
scholarships for international students to study in Germany at various degree levels.

 Einstein International Postdoctoral Fellowship – Fellowship sponsored by the
Einstein Foundation for postdoctoral research at a university in Berlin.
 Heinrich Böll Scholarships for International Students – Scholarships for
international students at all levels wishing to study in Germany at an accredited
institution.
 Humboldt Research Fellowships for Postdoctoral Researchers – Postdoctoral
scholarships for scientists and scholars of any subject and nationality. Students from
developing and emerging countries may be eligible to apply for a Georg Forster
Fellowship.
 Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Scholarships – Monthly master’s and PhD
scholarships are available for international applicants under 30 who have
completed a university degree in their home country. You’ll need to provide
evidence of an above-average academic performance, have been actively involved in
voluntary work for the benefit of society in your home country, and have an interest
in political issues.
 Kurt Hansen Science Scholarships – Science scholarships to study in Germany,
funded by the Bayer Foundation and open to students who are training to become
educators in the field of science.
 Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships (IIF) for Developing
Countries – Postdoctoral research scholarships for international students wishing
to study in Germany. Funded by the European Commission. More scholarships for
students from developing countries are available here.
 Mawista Scholarship – Scholarships for those studying abroad while taking care of
a child, including those pursuing study in Germany.
 Deutschland Stipendium – Merit-based scholarships of €300 a
month are available to highly talented students enrolled at German universities.
Nationality and personal income do not affect your chances of being considered.
 The Helmholtz Association – Annual fellowships are available for doctoral and
postdoctoral students from around the world, giving them the opportunity to do
paid research at a Helmholtz center in Germany.
 DRD Scholarships for Sub-Saharan Africans – Merit-based scholarships for
students from developing countries in Sub-Saharan Africa pursuing a master’s
degree in development studies, public administration and development
management at Ruhr-University Bochum. Program twinned with UWC in South

 Frankfurt School of Finance and Management Doctoral Tuition Waivers –
Tuition waiver scholarships for doctoral students studying an English-language
program at Frankfurt within finance, accounting, mathematics and business
administration.
 FRIAS Cofund Fellowship Programme for International Researchers – German
scholarships for international students to study at Universität Freiburg on a
research-level program.
 Hamburg University of Applied Sciences Masters Scholarships – Scholarships
for international students (for all subjects excluding design, public health and public
management) enrolled on a master’s program at the university.
 Heidelberg University – A range of scholarships for international students, such as
the Amirana Scholarshipfor students from developing countries to study medicine
or dentistry at the university.
 HHL International MSc Scholarship for Effective and Responsible Leadership –
Scholarship opportunities to study management at master’s and PhD levelsat HHL
Leipzig Graduate School of Management.
 Humboldt University International Research Fellowships – Research fellowship
opportunities for international students pursuing research in history, anthropology,
law, sociology, political science, geography, economics or area studies at Humboldt
University.
 International Doctoral Positions at Graduate School of East and Southeast
European Studies – Scholarships to study at graduate level within Ludwig-
Maximilians-Universität Munich or Universität Regensburg as a research fellow of
East and Southeast European Studies.
 KAAD Scholarships for Developing Countries – A scheme offering scholarships
for international students from developing countries (in Africa, Asia, the Middle East
and Latin America) to study at a German university at master’s or PhD level.
Candidates must possess German-language skills and be of Catholic-Christian
denomination.
Sweden Scholarship

Up until 2010, Sweden has been one of the few countries in Europe where you can study for
free. The Swedish Government has then passed a law that charges tuition and application
fees for students from non-EU/EEA countries to be supplemented by Swedish Scholarship
Programs. A significant number of Swedish Universities still offer scholarships in the form
of tuition waivers for international students.
The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships target highly-qualified students and are awarded
for studies in Sweden starting in an autumn semester. The scholarships are intended for full-
time master’s level studies in Sweden and cover both living costs and tuition fees.

 The University of Gothenburg Study Scholarship

The University of Gothenburg Study Scholarship is aimed at applicants who have to pay
tuition fees for their Masters Programme studies at the University. The scholarship covers
the tuition fee for the student’s study programme.

 Karolinska Institutet Global Master’s Scholarship

The Karolinska Institutet Global Master’s Scholarships only cover the tuition fee cost, not
living expenses, and only for studies at Master’s level.

 Kristianstad University Scholarships

The scholarship will be awarded to citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA who are
required to pay tuition fee for studies at Kristianstad University. If granted a scholarship, it
will include a full or partial reduction of the tuition fee.
 KTH Royal Institute of Technology Tuition Fee Waivers
A limited number of tuition fee waivers will be available for citizens from non-EU/EEA/EFTA
countries who are required to pay tuition fees and who has applied for a Master’s
programme at KTH. If granted a scholarship, the tuition fee will be waived for the total
length of the programme.

 Linnaeus University Scholarships

Linnaeus University Scholarships are for students who are from a country outside the
EU/EEA and Switzerland and who have applied for a study programme at Linnaeus
University. The scholarships usually cover 75 percent of the tuition fee but a few
scholarship from the Linnaeus Academy of Science and Business cover 100 percent of the
tuition fee.

 Linköping International Scholarships

The LiU International Scholarship is aimed at supporting international students with
significant academic potential from countries outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland) who are
required to pay tuition fees for studies. With LiU International Scholarships, tuition fees are
reduced by 25, 50, 75 or 100%.

 Lund University Global Scholarship Programme

The Lund University Global Scholarship Programme is targeted at top academic students
who are citizens of countries from outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland) and are required to
pay a tuition fee The scholarships are available for Bachelor’s or Master’s level studies.
Scholarships may cover 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the tuition fee.

 Mälardalen University Scholarships

Every year, Mälardalen University offers a limited numbers of scholarships to students
coming from countries outside of EU/EEA/Switzerland who are required to pay tuition fees
and who are applying for a master’s programme at the University as their first choice. The
scholarship will cover 100% of the tuition fee of the programme as long as you follow the
normal study plan. The scholarship does not cover living expenses.

 Malmö University Master’s Scholarship

The Malmö University Master’s Scholarship (MUMS) is for highly talented students who are
citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland and are admitted to an English-taught
master’s programme at Malmö University. The scholarship covers the entire tuition fee.
How to apply?
Interested students should apply to the international office of Erasmus+ office by contacting
Ellen Adams. She will inform you the possibilities of studying abroad as well as the
modalities to apply and to receive an Erasmus+ EU grant.

3. Print the Application Form and fill it with your hand.

4. Scan the filled Application Form and Send it back to Ellen

5. Send a Scanned files of your Educational Background

6. After you send your files and Ellen accepts them wait from 2 -3 days to get a confirmation
letter

7. After you receive your Confirmation letter Pay the DHL and Invitation Processing fee 50$
for Undergraduate and Post Graduate . and for Post Doctorial the DHL and Processing fee
will be 100$ to an account which Ellen tells you.

The main reason that the candidates must pay this fee is to show their seriousness on
this opportunity.

8. After you receive your confirmation letter for payment, wait till December and your
Invitation letter and Visa Letter will be sent to your country with a Guide line for Visa
Process.

9. After you receive your visa from the embassy of your chosen country send us the visa
picture and we will process you Plane ticket. then we will send you your ticket number.

10. When you arrive to the country you applied for Airport pickup will be provided by the
university employees and they will guide you to the whole process.

Who can apply?

Any Ethiopian student can Apply for this scholarship. For Undergraduate students the
requirement is that Student must have above 75% on English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology
and Chemistry. For Post graduate(Masters) the students GPA must be above 2.8. and For Post
Doctorial GPA must be Above 3.2.

About 116 Masters courses and 29 Joint Doctorate courses are supported by scholarships.
The field(s) of study covered are: Agriculture and Veterinary, Engineering, Manufacture and
Construction, Health and Welfare, Humanities and Arts, Science, Mathematics and
Computing, and Social Sciences, Business and Law.

Scholarship value/inclusions:
The programme offers full-time scholarships and/or fellowships that cover monthly
allowance, participation costs, travelling and insurance costs of the students. Scholarship
amounts can vary according to the level of studies, the duration of studies, and the scholar’s
nationality (scholarships for non-EU students are higher than for EU students).
