3.1 Preparation
A. Protection

2. Weather Protection
Protect facilities and equipment designated to remain in place from the weather at all
times. Maintain temporary coverings to ensure their effectiveness and to prevent
their displacement.
3. Protective Barriers
Before starting demolition operations, erect protective barriers around trees and
shrubs designated to remain. Barriers shall consist of 4 feet high woven wire fabric
[or other engineer acceptable warning barriers] fencing supported by steel or
wood posts, spaced 6 feet on center (maximum). Erect barriers at or outside of the
tree or shrub drip line. Do not use the areas within protective barriers for traffic,
storage, or any other purpose. Upon completing demolition work, remove and
dispose of protective barriers.
B. Dust Control
1. Existing Buildings
Provide dust proof barricades to prevent the intrusion of dust or inclement weather
into interiors of existing buildings exposed by the work. Construct barricades using
substantially braced framing covered with a suitable polyethylene sheeting material.
Remove and properly dispose of barricades when no longer needed (as determined by
the owner and construction manager).

objectionable conditions such as pollution, flooding, or unsafe areas.

A. General
2. Within the battery limits (5 feet outside of the building perimeter column lines
indicated on the drawings) of proposed new buildings, remove structures and related
appurtenances to a depth of no less than 12 inches below the indicated bottom of
footing or foundation.
3. Within 2 feet on each side of the centerline of proposed new utility lines, remove
existing structures and appurtenances to a depth of no less than 12 inches below the
bottom of the new utility.
4. In areas other than those indicated above, remove existing structures and
appurtenances to a depth of no less than 24 inches below the proposed finished grade.
Wherever the concrete slab of demolished buildings or other structures or pavements will
remain below the limits of removal indicated above, break such slabs into pieces with no
dimension greater than [ ] feet.

Purge, clean, fill, or terminate utility pipelines that are to be abandoned in a manner
conforming to the requirements of the nationally recognized code covering the specific
utility; and as indicated on the drawings, in these specifications, and elsewhere in the

contract documents. Bring conflicts between code requirements and the contract documents
to the attention of [ Construction Manager ], [ Owner ], [ or] [ Engineer ], for resolution.
C. Disconnecting Utilities
3.4 Explosives
Using explosives [ will ] [ will not ] be permitted. [ Comply with all federal, state, and local safety
regulations concerning the use of explosives, including necessary analyses for overpressure and
debris hazard. Give the owner, adjacent property owners, and all public utilities with facilities in
rights-of-way adjacent to the site at least 24 hours notice before any blasting operation. ]
3.5 Burning
Burning debris and rubbish on the owner's property [ will ] [ will not ] be permitted. [ When
permitted, burning shall strictly comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. ]
3.6 Salvage
Owner reserves the right to keep identified materials and equipment scheduled to be demolished or
removed. Remove other such materials and equipment from the site.
3.8 Cleanup
Remove from the project site materials, rubbish, and other debris resulting from the demolition
work; leave the site clean and safe.
3.9 Regulations
The Contractor shall comply with the Royal Commission regulations regarding hauling and
disposal of materials.
