GS-0301-7/9/11 Program Specialist
The Recreation, Heritage, & Volunteer Resources Staff, National Park Service will soon
advertise an exciting opportunity for highly motivated individuals as a Program Specialist.
This is a permanent position located in Denver, Colorado. This position works closely with
the Recreation One Stop Program Manager. This notification is circulated to inform
prospective applicants of this upcoming opportunity and to determine interest in the
position. This position is being advertised merit-government wide. However, The Agency is
following all COVD 19 guidelines during this time, so the position will be 100% virtual until
such time as employees are authorized and requested to return to the office.

serves as liaison
between field
locations in
multiple agencies
and the
Recreation One
Stop Program
Management
office and the contractor. Analyzes agency requirements to support a wide variety of
complex recreation permitting programs and assists in translating those requirements into
software solutions. Provides implementation leadership to ensure requirements are
communicated and well understood. Provides continuous monitoring and trouble-shooting
on dozens of permit programs which are in the process of deploying or have already
deployed. Assists local managers and software designers in understanding and managing
quota allotments and serves a primary liaison for implementing lotteries. Provides guidance
in the creation of reports and provides analysis of data outputs to guide data driven
management decision making.

The Rocky Mountain region is located in Golden Colorado, eight miles west of Denver and 10
minutes from the gateway to the Rocky Mountains. The USDA Forest Service Rocky
Mountain Region manages resources and activities across more than 22 million acres of
forest and grassland in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming. There are
a total of 11 National Forest and 7 National Grassland units and 52 ranger districts.
Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest and Colorado's White River National Forest are among
the first National Forests Congress proclaimed, carved from the original Forest Reserves.
The Denver Metro area has over 300 days of sunshine a year; summer days are sunny with an
average August temperature of 73 degrees with afternoon thunderstorms fairly common.
Winter in the metro area brings temperatures below freezing at night but usually in the 30-
50-degree range during the day with sunshine. There are approximately 5-10 snow events a
winter, most with less than 6 inches of accumulation.
There are several institutes of higher learning including Colorado School of Mines, University
of Colorado at Denver, Metro State University, University of Denver, and several community
colleges, as well as private institutions. Elementary and secondary schools rank among the
state's best. There are also private and church-affiliated schools and day care facilities.
The Denver Metro area has a large medical community, with a wide variety of specialists,
clinics and hospitals.
Denver – the Mile-High City – has one of nation's strongest metropolitan economies. Median
household income in the Metro Denver area is 15.6 percent higher than the national median
income. A great way to get familiar with the area is to peruse the neighborhood guide or to
browse through the Denver government's official site.
In the Denver metro area, Apartment rentals start at $1275. House rentals begin at
approximately $1,690 per month, and the average price for purchasing a home is $390,000.
Utilities are priced moderately.
