Getting Started With Curator

Contender
THE BARE BASICS

Curation is one the most powerful techniques you can use for Search Engine Optimization
purposes. Most people associate curation with exclusively with social sites, but you can go
much further than that. This manual will explain how you can leverage the power of
curation and create an extremly powerful and relevant backlink profile using Curator
Contender and your favorite backlink automation tools.

What Is Content Curation For SEO?
A definition of content curation is: collecting, organizing, editing and sharing existing
content from your own organization and/or content from third parties. This involves
high-quality, inspiring and relevant content for the target group you are aspiring to reach
such as news, blogs, images, video, and info-graphics and more.

Content Curation as used for seo purposes widely used within Content Marketing to
quickly offer a lot of content to target groups. Content curation, in my opinion, is most
powerful by adding value to it.

By adding your own opinion or knowledge to existing content you turn it into new
content, with value for the target audience. Think of connecting conclusions to existing
studies or bundling different articles on the same topic.

A common technique in content curation is to quote thought leaders or use complete

paragraphs from other articles/interviews/blogs/columns etc. This is also called content
synthesizing.

A major pitfall of content curation is, of course, to just nick or poke around without
adding value for the reader. Sooner or later this will be seen through by your audience and
punished mercilessly, if the search engines don't do it already. Besides; creating content
yourself is much more fun!

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PLATFORM

There are roughly three main ways to use, share and publish curated content, short of
building your own.

− Use curated content for owned media, such as websites and newsletters. Because
of the content and/or opinion additions, curated content - whether it's a blog,
listicle or infographic - is a great complement to owned content.

− Leverage platforms such as Medium and Reddit to publish curated content that is
relevant to a broad audience.

− Use third party platforms (Web2.0) when using automated backlinking tools, such
as Money Robot, SEO Autopilot etc.

It should be clear: there is no one size fits all approach to content curation. As with
brand journalism, alignment with the target audience is a constant concern in content
curation. This can mean, for example, that curated content is translated into a variety of
(textual and/or visual) expressions and shared through different channels.

Content curation certainly deserves a place in the content strategy, for example as a
supplement to content creation and to support campaigns. To really use content curation

PG. 1
effectively, a well thought-out strategy and a structural approach are needed. But perhaps
the greatest challenge is to improve the image of content curation.

QUICK CURATION VS IN-DEPTH CONTENT

Now I don't think you should only make simple and fast content, because depth from time
to time is also important. In my opinion it's all about the balance. Snackable content is
very important, especially when someone first comes into contact with your organization,
but when they become more interested, you should also offer 'high class', more extensive
content with more depth.

Moreover, this also differs per situation. Sometimes people are just looking for in-depth
background information. You can keep them involved in your organization by sharing
snackable content every now and then and keep them informed, inspired and entertained
in a simple way.

Quick curation is most useful for social platforms such as Twitter and/or Facebook. The
goal of quick curation is to get the person browsing the platforms’ pages and draw them to
your own website where you will have the more in-depth content ready and waiting.

WHAT IS CURATOR CONTENDER?

Curator Contender started as an inhouse project designed to overcome the pitfalls of

automated linkbuilding tools that use scraped content. The Google algo updates made
most scraped (unreadable/garbage) content obsolete. Either they would NOT index at all
or they would get deindexed after a very short period of time.

Curator Contender was designed so the user (either myself or a VA) could quickly input
human readable spun content, mix in some GoogleNews (curated content) posts from
related topics, add some images, videos etc. and have the software generate different spun
‘blocks’ of content.

Each generated ‘Content Block’ would have a different layout for the articles when they
get distributed to Web2.0 sites using backlink automation tools.

In the examples below there are 2 separate ‘Content Blocks’ but each block would be
totally different from the other when your favorite backlink tool creates and posts the
articles on the web.

This block on the left starts with an

image, followed by the article and ends
with a closing paragraph.

Note: Images, articles and the closing

paragraph are all spun so the actual
content will be different for each
property it gets posted to.

In the image on the right handside we

start again with an image, followed by an
article but instead of closing with a
paragraph the article would close with a
video.

In the training videos we will go more

indepth on this aspect of creating different
blocks on content and syndicating them
using automated backlink tools. (As of
now there are 34 different items possible
in the software from social and other sites)

In this image the ‘Block’ contains more
elements. It start with a short
Introduction, followed by an image then
followed by an article and below that
article would be one of our random
pieces of curated content and it ends
with a closing paragraph.

All three blocks would be spun together

into 1 single block of html code with all
the sections in place.

As you can imagine each time your automation software creates a post it is going to be
unique in every way. This in turn helps your backlinks remain indexed indefinitely. One
additional benefit of using Curator Contender is that in some cases you can even see your
posts pop up in search results for long tail keywords and keyphrases.
