How can I be honest with this client and not jeopardize my values of openness and

integrity?

Although most OD practitioners value openness and trust, it is important that they be aware of

how such data are going to be used. It is a human tendency to use data to enhance a power

position. Openness is one thing, but leaking inappropriate information can be harmful to

individuals and to the organization. It is easy for a consultant, under the guise of obtaining

information, to gather data about whether a particular manager is good or bad. When, how, or if

m
er as
this information can be used is an ethical dilemma not easily resolved.

How can I be helpful to this client?

o.
Assuming that some kind of change is going to occur anyway, the consultant should have a
rs e
ou urc
responsibility to try to guide the change in the most constructive fashion possible. Give them a

quality intervention by providing information relevant to their current situation. The OD

practitioner must be truthful and ethical to build trust with the client to stage an intervention

beneficial to the organization.

How much do I know about Quality Improvement Processes?

The purpose of continuous quality improvement programs is to improve quality by identifying

problems, implementing and monitoring corrective action and studying its effectiveness. For
is

example, Yamaha’s strategy has been to produce consistent piano quality through continuous

improvement. A separate handcrafted concert grand piano operation has also tried to use

continuous improvement methods to create consistently high- quality instruments.

How can I satisfy the requirements of my employer?

They needed to increase efficiency and cut costs in the core business. This is what the president

wants for the business. This is what he has offered. The best course of action would be to follow

the guidelines of quality improvement process.

What obligations do I have and to who?

Todd is obligated to the company as well as the client. She has an obligation to finish the job that

she has been assigned, because ultimately, she accepted it. She is obligated to the client because

she let them think that she could handle what they needed to be done and she was considered the

expert.

Who is going to know if I do or don’t have credentials to perform this work?

o.
The president of Todd’s would be the only one with access to Todd’s credentials. Releasing that

information to client would probably need to be run by Todd first. The president feels that

Kindred can handle this one alone and he’s known the client for 10 years so he probably knows

what he is talking about.

What if I fail?

If Todd were to fail then that would mean she gave up. I feel that would be the only way to mess

up with Continuous Quality Improvement. If she does fail then that it would come back on the

president of her company. It would most likely also negatively affect the client company.
