Assam, Jal Shakti Mission & NDRF wins the best tableaux awards for 71st Republic Day Parade 2020
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh distributed the awards for best tableaux which were conducted on
January 26, 2020, during the 71st Republic Day event. There were a total of 22 tableaux including 16
from various states and union territories (UTs) and remaining 6 from various ministries and
departments. Assam’s tableaux won best tableaux for states and UTs, which displayed the theme ‘Land
of Unique Craftsmanship and Culture’, had showcased the Xattriya tradition in the form of Bhortal
Nritya. The second position was tied between Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. Among tableaux from different
ministries/departments, Ministry of Jal Shakti and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) won the
joint best Tableaux award. Central Public Works Department (CPWD) won special prize for the
theme “Kashmir se Kanyakumari”.

Kaamya Karthikeyan, 12 years old, a class 7 student of Navy Children School (NCS) in Mumbai,

The 27-year old Indian freelance reporter Ahmer Khan was announced as the winner of the 2019 Kate
Webb Prize by the Agence France-Presse, for his series of videos and written reports on how people
in Kashmir impacted while scraping article 370 by the Government of India. In 2008 AFP established
the Kate Webb Prize with a cash reward of euro 3000 (approximately Rs.3.2 lakhs) to recognize
Journalists working in difficult conditions in Asia.
1 Million Dollar worth ‘Food Planet Prize’ created by The New Curt Bergfors Foundation in
Stockholm, Sweden
The New Curt Bergfors Foundation created the world’s largest prize for sustainable food solutions in
Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The name of the prize is Food Planet Prize and its worth one million
dollar. It will be presented in two categories. The jury prize will be chaired by Johan Rockstrom the
director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research. The objective of the prize is to provide solutions
to feed people where climate change scares the world’s food supply and to create a sustainable food

Chittaranjan Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), the manufacturing unit of Indian Railways
Locomotive Works based in Asansol, West Bengal (WB), has set the Limca Book of Records for

working days. It is 2.15 times its installed capacity of 200 locomotives per year.

Dutch Author Marieke Won the 2020 International Booker Prize for the Literary fiction book ‘The
Lucas Rijneveld Discomfort of Evening’. Rijneveld became the youngest author to win the prize.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has inscribed the fort
cities of Gwalior and Orchha in Madhya Pradesh (MP) in its world heritage cities under urban landscape
city programme. This was informed by the state government of MP. With this Inclusion the total
number of UNESCO World Heritage Cities of India will increase to 40. In this regard, UNESCO team will
visit the state in 2021 and will prepare a master plan for their development and conservation under the
Historic Urban Landscape recommendation.
