Britain's Prince William unveils prize for climate innovation
Prince William Arthur Philip Louis (37) has announced a multi-million-pound prize for “visionaries”
working to solve “Earth’s greatest environmental problems,” from climate change to air pollution. The
Earthshot Prize will be awarded to five winners, every year, for the next 10 years. The initiative’s goal is

Australia has conferred its highest civilian honour, the Order of Australia honour to Kiran Mazumdar-
Shaw, founder and chairperson of biopharmaceutical company Biocon and appointed as an honorary
member in the general division of the Order of Australia by Australia's High Commissioner to India Ms.
Harinder Sidhu at a ceremony in Leela Palace, Bengaluru, Karnataka. She is the fourth Indian citizen to
be awarded Australia’s highest civilian honour after batsman Sachin Tendulkar in 2012, Former
Attorney General of India Soli Jehangir Sorabjee in 2006 and Mother Teresa (Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu) of
Kolkata in 1982.
President Kovind conferred 2020 Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awards in New Delhi
President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind conferred the 2020 annual Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal
Puraskar to 49 children in the age group of 5-18 in New Delhi. The award is given to children having

'Samvidhaan' named as Oxford Hindi Word of the Year for 2019
The Oxford University Press (OUP) has named ‘Samvidhaan’ (constitution) as the Oxford Hindi Word
of the Year (HWOTY) for 2019. This name received widespread attention in August 2019 with the
abrogation of Article 370 and article 35(A) of the Indian Constitution on August 05, 2019. The articles
removed special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir.
Assam, Jal Shakti Mission & NDRF wins the best tableaux awards for 71st Republic Day Parade 2020
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh distributed the awards for best tableaux which were conducted on
January 26, 2020, during the 71st Republic Day event. There were a total of 22 tableaux including 16
from various states and union territories (UTs) and remaining 6 from various ministries and
departments. Assam’s tableaux won best tableaux for states and UTs, which displayed the theme ‘Land
of Unique Craftsmanship and Culture’, had showcased the Xattriya tradition in the form of Bhortal
Nritya. The second position was tied between Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. Among tableaux from different
ministries/departments, Ministry of Jal Shakti and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) won the
joint best Tableaux award. Central Public Works Department (CPWD) won special prize for the
theme “Kashmir se Kanyakumari”.

Environmental Achievement
Indian environmentalist and Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP) Pavan Sukhdev won Tyler Prize 2020 for Environmental Achievement for his
groundbreaking “green economy” work along with conservation biologist Gretchen C. Daily from

Noted yesteryear Bollywood actor Waheeda Rehman was selected for the National Kishore Kumar

Kaamya Karthikeyan, 12 years old, a class 7 student of Navy Children School (NCS) in Mumbai,
Maharashtra, became the youngest girl in the world to climb Mt. Aconcagua, Argentina, (highest peak in
South America) which ranges about 6962 metres. She also climbed Mt.Mentok Kangri II, Ladakh (6,260
meters), on August 24, 2019. By 2021, she aims to complete “Explorers Grand Slam”.

The 27-year old Indian freelance reporter Ahmer Khan was announced as the winner of the 2019 Kate
Webb Prize by the Agence France-Presse, for his series of videos and written reports on how people
in Kashmir impacted while scraping article 370 by the Government of India. In 2008 AFP established
the Kate Webb Prize with a cash reward of euro 3000 (approximately Rs.3.2 lakhs) to recognize

1 Million Dollar worth ‘Food Planet Prize’ created by The New Curt Bergfors Foundation in
Stockholm, Sweden
The New Curt Bergfors Foundation created the world’s largest prize for sustainable food solutions in
Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The name of the prize is Food Planet Prize and its worth one million
dollar. It will be presented in two categories. The jury prize will be chaired by Johan Rockstrom the
director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research. The objective of the prize is to provide solutions
to feed people where climate change scares the world’s food supply and to create a sustainable food
system for growing population. Later in 2020, the first prize will be awarded.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has inscribed the fort

city programme. This was informed by the state government of MP. With this Inclusion the total
number of UNESCO World Heritage Cities of India will increase to 40. In this regard, UNESCO team will
visit the state in 2021 and will prepare a master plan for their development and conservation under the
Historic Urban Landscape recommendation.

has adopted the proposal to launch a USD 50,000 ‘UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman International Prize’, a 1st award in the field of the creative economy. The prize is named after
Bangabandhu (Friend of Bengal) Sheikh Mujibur Rahman(Sheikh Mujib or Mujib), the ‘Father of the
Nation of Bangladesh’. The award will be given from November 2021. The prize will be given once in 2
years(biennially).
