an enormous social gathering having a similar social domain, regularly subject to similar
political authority and prevailing cultural desires. In my eyes society plays a vital role in
molding a teens behavior, character and attitude. When a kid is growing up, they are
going to be exposed to media throughout their life, especially in present time, where
the internet the accessible in the easiest way possible. These kids can be exposed to
what ever they stumble upon, whether it be positive information or negative horrible
information. Also included in society is school and the peers it brings, these are the
people that will solidify an individual’s character and behavior, because they will spend
the most time with them, and will most probably have a strong relationship with them.
Society will determine how an individual views a certain person, what the individual
believes in, and their general outlook in life. Society has as big of an impact as a parent
is to a child. Most importantly, I believe society is one of the main factors that prepares
the future generation for what is to come for their adult life.
shaping the character of Filipino people including Jose Rizal. Chinese mestizos were
actually traders who entered Philippines before Spanish colonization and played an
important role in the economic and social development of the Philippines. They
culture. They acquired Filipino identities and adopted the Filipino language, Tagalog.

Therefore, giving the Chinese mestizos an important role in the formation of Filipino
identity and rise of the Filipino culture. The Chinese mestizos also became a part of the
Filipino elite, this led to the Chinese mestizos playing an important role in rise of the
Filipino middle class. Some of the mestizos were able to acquire higher education which
abled them to enter important professions. The mestizos also cherished liberal and
democratic ideas, this greatly contributed to the development and formation of the
awakening of Jose Rizal which inspired him to write for his people and nation.
The issue of Friar lands also played an important role in shaping Jose Rizal's
personality. The unfair arranging of large landed estates led to discontent among the
Filipino peasants. Jose Rizal also found a disagreement with the unfair distribution of
the land estates. This led Jose Rizal to express his discontent through his writings.
19th century. They had a significant role in the formation of the Filipino middle class, in
the agitation for reforms, in the 1898 revolution, and in the formation of what is now
known as the Filipino nationality. They would even have a role in nation-building during
the contemporary times. Rizal was a Chinese mestizo and was known as the pride of
the Malay race, Rizal is a descendent from a pure Chinese ancestor, which includes a
long line of Chinese mestizos and Chinese mestizas. With Jose Rizal being a Chinese
mestizo, this was able to make him identify with the Filipino people and instilled him
with racial pride. Back in March 1, 1888, a petition was signed by 810 natives and
mestizos, the Filipinos and Chinese mestizos marched to the official residence of Jose

Centeno, where they presented the petition. This petition demanded the immediate
expulsion of the Spanish friars and the archbishop, which the natives and mestizos
described as unworthy to occupy the primacy of the islands. As Rizal was a student in
Spain during 1880s, Rizal helped rekindle the fire of nationalism. Rizal found a group of
brilliant young Indio and mestizo Students that have not yet reached their full potential,
these young Indio and mestizo Students were lost and highly lacked an effective leader,
Jose Rizal was able to successfully transform these once unformed points of views into
minds that are passionate in their nation and nationalism. Jose Rizal’s essay titled
"Indolence of the Filipinos”, completely dismissed the disrespectful myth from the
Spanish writers that the Filipinos were by nature, lazy, that Filipinos lacked initiative and
that Filipinos had a lack of desire towards civilization. Jose Rizal’s work sought to instill
in the people a national feeling, and sought to give pride in an individual’s race.
The Number of events during the 19th century including the ascendance of the
Chinese mestizo and the issue of the friar lands helped build Jose Rizal into that
national hero, those events led to the shaping of the character of Jose Rizal. Being a
prolific poet, essayist, and novelist, the events urged Jose Rizal to fight against and
take an active stand against the Spanish government, the events helped Jose Rizal
realize the importance of freedom and the safety of his fellow kababayans. I believe
because of the events that happened during the 19 th century Jose Rizal was able to
inspire a whole revolution through his writings. Jose Rizal’s most notable books like “El
Filibusterismo”, “Noli Me Tangere” and several other poems and essays highlighted the

oppression and suppression of the Filipino people under Spanish regime. Jose Rizal
1882 and lasted all the way up to the early months of 1896. I believe because of the
events during the 19th century Jose Rizal lead a reformist propaganda movement which
involved the mass publication of articles and pamphlets for political awakening of
masses. He openly advocated for the rights of Filipino people and Rizal was among one
of the first to affirm the Filipino. All Jose Rizal’s attempts and effort had a great
contribution to the emergence of the Philippine revolution, which led to the Philippines’s
independency. Overall, I believe that the events that happened during the 19 th century,
like the ascendance of the Chinese mestizo and the issues of the friar lands played an
indirect, but vital and significant role in making the character of a national hero.
