The author grew up in a rural community in Ghana and witnessed inequities in healthcare access. This motivated them to pursue education and careers in community health and disability advocacy.

The author has gained skills in project management, planning and implementation through volunteering and working with organizations focused on disability, health and community development in Ghana.

The author has volunteered with Sparklers Foundation UK/Ghana and co-founded Care for Cerebral Palsy. They have also worked as a research assistant with Pensive Research Consult Ghana.

I experienced childhood in a rustic local area in the Eastern part of Ghana called Akim Asanteman, a

noticeable farming community. During my juvenile years, I witness the demise of a little fellow who was

epileptic while going through seizure in the gravel. The group of people around did little for the less

advantage as the illness is thought to be reviled and infectious. It was then I comprehended the unfairness in

medical care and opened my sight to imagine Owen Arthur's words; "Health gives hope".

To follow and keep my desire rising, I chose to study Bachelor of Education in Community Based

Rehabilitation and Disability and Rehabilitation. With the knowledge, skills and experiences obtained in

community health and disability, together with some few friends we set up a radio-based programme

(Disability Focus) on campus to educate the public about some of the first aid measures, disability and health

related issues. Due to wide coverage of the university radio programme, the education was centred on letting

communities have a strong hand on the determinants of their health by listening to public education on

healthy living.

Over a year now, I have been working with community healthcare centres, organisations in rural dwellers, in

terms of service provisions and facility accessibility, with keen interest targeting the marginalized in the

community. I believe education about health issues is very scanty in some rural settings in Ghana and it affect

the individual health adversely. I have been determined from childhood to get a level of education where I

could contribute my quota to the world at large.

I am excited by the diverse nature of the Master in Public Health program and it meaningful effect its activity

can have in helping individuals improve their quality of life and achieve personal goals. I believe the MSc

Public Health program will equip me with the requisite skills to contribute health advocacy and addressing the

health needs of individuals in my country and the world at large.

Skills and Knowledge

Knowing the importance of education and health, I have volunteered in several capacity for organisations

which has exposed to wide range of knowledge and skills. My skills in project management contributed to

my role as a project director at Sparklers Foundation UK/Ghana, where I lead a group of teams to organize a

public education on autism. I had fulfilment as a volunteer, when our visionary leader was promoted at her

place of work in the United Kingdom.

With the knowledge, skills and experiences obtained in community health and disability,

I have relevant knowledge and skills in project planning and implementation, advocacy and basic home-

based rehabilitation service for individuals (occupational therapy and physical therapy). I have proficient

knowledge and skills in Appropriate Paper-Based Technology (APT). Also, I have enhanced knowledge in

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Again, I have prominent knowledge in research which led to appointment as a research assistant at Pensive

Research Consult Ghana.

Also, I am a co-founder of a non-for-profit organization call, Care for Cerebral Palsy, where our vision is to

promote an equal, accessible and inclusive community for all, including persons with disabilities.

Growing up in a community where persons with disabilities are being excluded from many community

activities, I co-founded Care for Cerebral Palsy (Care CP), a disability-focused association, that aims to

advocate and trained individuals to promote the right and inclusion of persons with cerebral palsy and

disability. In helping to address these issue, I led a group of team members to organised an empowerment

seminar on 6th November 2018, themed: Accommodate or Modify: Empowering Persons with Cerebral

Palsy: the role of the civic society. Participants were trained and educated on how to support individuals

with disabilities in their various communities.

In helping to achieve SDGs goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and goal 4 (Quality Education), my current

project is focused on providing home-based rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities and designing

of assistive devices for children with disabilities to improve their health and support their education. As a
prospective Mastercard Foundation Scholar, this scholarship will enhance my leadership skills and prepare me

to offer solutions to issues on disability within my community and country at large.

Developmental impact
Everett koop stresses that, “Health care is vital to all of us some of the time, but public

health is vital to all of us all the time”. Studying Public health can be one of the catalysts that

can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals faster as a country. Looking back as a

country with outbreaks like cholera in some parts of our capital city and covid-19 a global

pandemic killing dozens of people, with my father being a victim, the agony and hurt influenced

me a lot. That makes the statement of Everett koop crucial to the survival of the nations.

Studying Public Health will give me the imperative approaches that are tried and tested to help

my country battle and stop some of these avoidable diseases. Also, with the passing of public

health Act in Ghana, indicates that Ghana is keen of ensuring universal access of health to all

individuals and sums up the Commonwealth Scholarship theme of strengthening health systems

and capacity.

Developmental Impact 2

With demand for public health practitioners far exceed the supply, I would bridge this by first

intensifying public health education forums especially in rural areas where mostly lack public

health practitioners. With communication and behavioural change being key component of

public health, I know the knowledge obtained will help me practicalise it in my local setting.

With interest for public health professionals far surpasses the stockpile, I would connect

this by first strengthening public health education forums particularly in rustic areas

where for the most part need public health experts. With communication and social change

being a vital segment of public health, I know the information acquired in will help me
practicalise it in my neighbourhood setting. Ultimately, I believe the rural dwellers will be the

would be the main users and audience of my study and I will dedicate my career to ensure ease

healthcare accessibility for them.

Impact 3

Also, as a co-founder of and programmes manager of a Non-Governmental Organisation, I

would be intensifying education forum and enrol more aged and persons with disabilities on t

he National Health Insurance Scheme which is free for older people above 70 years and persons

with disability when enrolled with the Social Welfare Department. About 80% of these

minority group have no idea about the health insurance scheme and they suffer in pain and pay

huge medical bills. This will power captures the Commonwealth Scholarship theme and also

the Sustainable Development Goals standard in ensuring good health, reducing poverty and

inequalities for the aged and persons with disabilities in Ghana.

Also, I will enrol more persons with disabilities on the National Health Insurance Scheme

which also free for individuals with disabilities by registering them with the Social Welfare

Department. Again, I will work hand in hand with governmental and non-governmental

organisations and agencies in conjunction to strengthen the Public Health Act and train more

public health professional to tackle critical issues which can be prevented in this generation

Impact 4

In measuring my impact, I would join the Commonwealth Alumni Network, give my quota

when called upon and I would urge the secretariate to follow my involvement in the

institutions with the knowledge and skills acquired and five updates when needed. Also, I

would work earnestly in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 3 and ensure more
inclusive environment in my country and other commonwealth nations around the globe.

In measuring my impact, I would join the Commonwealth Alumni Network, give my

quota when called upon and I would urge the secretariate to follow my involvement in

institutions with the knowledge and skills acquired and give updates when

required. Likewise, I would work sincerely in accomplishing the Sustainable

Development Goal 3 and guarantee a more comprehensive and inclusive environment in

my country and other commonwealth nations around the globe.

Everett Koop underscores that "Medical and healthcare services is imperative to us all a portion of the time, however general wellbeing

is crucial to us all constantly". Examining Public wellbeing can be one of the impetuses that can help accomplish Sustainable

Development Goals quicker as a country. Thinking back as a country with flare-ups like cholera in certain pieces of our capital city and

Influenza type A H1N1 slaughtering many senior secondary younger students, with a companion's sibling being a casualty, I trusted I

was not straightforwardly identified with my companion however the agony and hurt influenced me too. That offers the expression of

Everett Koop essential to the endurance of the countries. Considering Public Health will give me the basic methodologies that are

attempted and tried to help my nation fight and stop a portion of these avoidable infections. Additionally, with the death of

general wellbeing Act in Ghana shows that Ghana is enthused about guaranteeing all inclusive admittance to wellbeing to all people

and summarizes the Commonwealth Scholarship subject of fortifying wellbeing frameworks and limit.
With demand for public health practitioners far exceed the supply, I would bridge this gap by rst intensifying public health educational
forums especially in rural areas where they mostly lack public health practitioners. With communication and behavioural change being
key component of public health, I know the knowledge obtained will help me practicalise it in my local settings. Ultimately, I believed
the rural dwellers would be the main users and audiences of my study and I will dedicate my career to ensure ease healthcare
accessibility for them. Also, with highly recognised international organisation in UK, like Leonard Cheshire and Sightsavers knowledge
learnt during this studies have been researched on and proven to be appropriate irrespective of location. Also, having established a
NonGovernmental Organisation I would be intensifying education forum and enroll more aged who are above 70 years on the National
Health Insurance Scheme which is free IF ONLY YOU ARE ABOVE 70 years. But almost 80% of the aged above 70 years have no idea of
this health insurance scheme and they su er in pain and pay huge medical bills. This willpower captures the Commonwealth Scholarship
theme and also the Sustainable
