3. Sarah wants to buy 8 T-shirts at $19.75 each. What is the least number of $5-notes
she will need to pay for her purchase?
4. The admission fee to the Bird Park was $8.50 for each adult and $5 for each child. A
tour group paid $263 for some tickets. There were 4 more children than adults. How
many adults were there in the group?
6. Damian and Whitney had the same amount of money each. Damian spent all his
money on 8 similar magazines at $7.25 each. Whitney bought 3 similar pencil cases
and had $16 left. How much did Whitney pay for each pencil case?
7. The total cost of 4 pens and 3 pencils is $35.25. If each pen costs $5.85, find
(a) the cost of each pencil, and
(b) the total cost of a pencil and 2 such pens?
8. Mrs Tang collected 17.5 litres of water. He used 3.75 litres to water his plants and

10. Marcus bought 3 packets of sweets and 2 bags of biscuits for $42. The cost of a
packet of sweets was $0.50 less than the cost of a bag of biscuits. Find the cost of 1
packet of sweets.
11. 0.4 of the people at the beach were children and the rest were adults. If there were 80
more adults than children, how many people were there at the beach?
12. A book and a magazine cost $7.20. Julia bought 2 such books and 4 such magazines

13. Tin A contains some 20¢-coins and Tin B contains some 50¢-coins. There are 9 more
coins in Tin A than in Tin B, The amount of money in Tin A is $2.70 less than that in
Tin B. How many 50¢-coins are there in Tin B?
14. The total cost of 6 kg of mutton and a packet of sugar is $63.40. If the packet of sugar
costs $4.60,
(a) find the cost of 1 kg of mutton.
