NSTP Week
One of the best aspects of vegetable gardening that makes it very interesting is the fact that will eat
vegetables can actually be grown anywhere. The vegetable gardens occupy small spaces and therefore
can be practiced in both indoors as well as outdoors. The processes involving in vegetable gardening are
most enjoyable and they always make me look forward to carrying them out. Firstly, I prepare the
seedbed or a nursery for the first activity it involves a bit of digging and removal of unwanted weeds.
Since the seeds are tiny I just plant them in a one place for them to grow more and to prevent them
from being eroded away by excess water during watering period.
Week 2
After a week the seeds germinate. At this stage, watering takes place every morning and evening
depending on the weather. If there is ample rainfall there is no need to water the vegetables but if the
weather is too hot I have to be watered twice each day. Apart from watering I also wedding and
thinning. All the activities illustrated above are easy and enjoyable and none of them consumes a lot of
time. It became my hobby after I woke up in the morning because it makes me happy and relax.
Vegetable gardening enables me to spend them effectively outdoors while I’m doing something really
enjoyable and appealing because I know at the end of the day I will eventually enjoy the fruits of my
input by harvesting the crops when the time comes that it is well grown and already bearing.
Week 3
After two to three weeks following germination, the entire seedbed is a really attractive site to look at
for long periods of time. Apart from this vegetables being attractive to the eyes, they are also appealing
to the tongue. Whether they are cook are consumed when they are raw vegetables have a great case
which I always look forward for.
Week 4
I wait for another week before I transfer the plant from the seedbed to the specific area that I’m looking
forward for it to grow. Because it seems like it’s to young for it to transplant, it still have 4 moderate
green leaves. And my grandma told me that it’s not yet the time for it to transplant. And I did some
research and it says there that it takes 6 to 8 weeks before it must be transplanted. Thereon I just
weeding it and carefully watered it.
Week 5
I prepare the tools that I use so I can access it quickly in the area that I’m cultivating. I feel tired and
sweating that time but I feel excited at the same time because it feels so much happy when the time
comes that I can get the fruit of my hardwork. The skills I have towards gardening were refined and I
gained more of it from my family specifically to my grandparents who truly loves planting and it helped
me through their shared knowledge and personal experiences.
Week 6
I think it’s time. It’s 6th week and the so called seedbed of my plant is normally full of dark green which is
actually my best color as it is cool and peaceful. It is a color that represents nature and getting a chance
of bringing it close to the house makes the entire compound very attractive. The bar green color
continues to exist as long as the vegetable garden is in use as most of the vegetables are actually
consumed when they are still green. I excitedly watered the plants and wait for another week for it’s
transplant hopefully.
Week 7
I started planting the vegetables specifically chilli. In the 2 nd week of March. Since, I am fond of planting
ever since I was a child, it was not very difficult for me to do it. While I am planting the vegetables I did
not care about the scorching heat of the sun because I am really eager when I am planting. In fact, I
enjoyed it so much. Since the land I cultivated contains some insects like ants, I noticed that some part
of my hand was bitten after I finished planting. But, it is not that serious because it is just mild. After I
plant it, I watered it so it will grow faster and better.
Week 8
I have chosen chilli to plant because they really grow well in a sunny vegetable garden. Since sun heat is
very hot I think it’s suits well to plant chilli. After the week I transferred it in its growing place. I watered
it every morning and afternoon or depends on the weather. I do watering my plants when the weather
is hot but when it rained I just leave it there. I thought that it would take few weeks for them to grow
but I was feel disappointed when my grandmother told me that it takes months for them to grow and
bear.
Week 9
I continuously water the plants so that it can get nutrients from both sunlight and water. As I’ve
observed in this week the plant didn’t have a huge growth. I also noticed that the leaves had darkened.
Little by little, as the time passes by while I’m working on my vegetable gardening, I realized growing a
plant also means that I need to do some research like searching for the background of the plan that I am
going to plant are the amount of times I should water them each day because planting requires patience
and knowledge in order for a plant to survive.
Week 10
The plant is now at its it week and so far the plant is still growing but has lower progress like the past
weeks. So far, there were no complications on the plant and it seems growing nutritiously. At this week,
I still watering the plants for it to dehydrated because this week seems like so hot for the plant and I
think I need an extra effort to water it twice a day to nourish it’s leaves and in order to the plant to
survive.
Week 11
I woke up early in the morning to check the plant and it seems like it grows but not that much and it’s
leaves also darkened. I also watered my plant twice a day because summer is already approaching that’s
why I do once in the morning and once at the afternoon. Because I don’t want my plants to be
dehydrated that’s why I watered them and take care of them.
Week 12
At it’s 12th week I keep weeded to avoid competition on the nutrients of the soil to the plant. Chilli are
shallow-rooted, so cultivate around peppers with care. I watered it in the morning after I cultivate it and
also in the afternoon to avoid dehydration. I find the plants height is getting higher and I measured it
and it’s already 9 inches some of them are not have the same height maybe because of the nutrients
only available in the area they are planted.
Week 13
My chilli is in it’s 13th week and I watered it twice a day to dehydrate it. I’ve observe that some of it are
growing so I decided to measure it. In it’s 13 th week, some of it are in 11 inches some are in five and
some are in 7
Like what my grandma told me maybe the difference betweek it’s height depends in the nutrients they
get from the soil. So I do cultivating and weeding after it I decided to water it. I feel tired seeing my
plants growing slowly because its take time for them to bear fruit but just by watching them to grow
little by little makes me already contented and happy.
