SPORT SHOES
Energetic Colors Match Quick Energy Return
http://www.rtpcompany.com/info/apps/stories/shoes.htm
When RTP Company was asked to match 12 fashion colors for Reebok's fall 1989 sports shoes, and to do
so quickly, we did just that. The 12 colors, matched in color concentrate form, include brilliant fuchsia,
citron and emerald. These hues "explode" visibility and color into Reebok's Energy Return System (ERS)
sports shoes for basketball, running, aerobics, tennis, and sports conditioning.
This innovative concept involves a series of resilient thermoplastic elastomer tubes in the shoe's sole or heel
(depending on the performance category) easing impact when the athlete's foot strikes ground. By
absorbing the impact the athlete's energy is conserved and the chance of injury is reduced. The brightly
colored tubes are encased in clear thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer.
RTP Company has been supplying plastics processors with state-of-the-art precolored resin matches since
1960. The product line also includes color concentrates and cube blends, produced to the same high
standards
TPE THERMOPLASTIC ELASTOMER SPECIALTY COMPOUNDS
Complete portfolio of soft-touch resins
Customizable for overmolding and other properties
Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) materials combine the functional performance and properties of thermoset
rubbers with the processability of thermoplastics. TPEs permit fabrication of "rubber-like" articles with the
speed, efficiency, and economy of injection molding.
RTP Company offers a broad portfolio of TPE compounds based on five diverse resin technologies. These
unique products give designers new flexibility in applications requiring "soft-touch" features, seals against
fluid environments, impact protection, and improved ergonomics.
As a specialty compounder our TPE compounds can be custom formulated for optimum bonding to
substrate materials during insert or multi-shot overmolding or combined with other technologies to offer
anti-static/conductive, flame retardant, wear resistant or color/appearance properties.

All these products guarantee lowest water absorption capacity and are 30% more abrasion resistant compared to natural leather.
These products also provide better flexing and consistent product as compared with natural leather. These thermo plastic rubber
compound, PVC compound and synthetic rubbers are also cheaper than the Indian leather sole costing. Owing to their superior
qualities, our Footwear Sole Leather can also be very well molded and given desired curves to give 3 dimensional looks and very
soft sole leather.
Consistency in quality is maintained through adherence to various quality norms. All our products meet the ASTM & DIN
standards. Our products have been tested on different quality parameters.

KRAIBURG TPE

In its activities focusing on consumer products KRAIBURG TPE adheres faithfully to its
principle: “Custom-engineered TPE and more” and explores and analyzes market needs with an eye
toward customizing TPE. One project in the development pipeline: Materials suitable for contact with
oily foodstuffs. “When developing new product characteristics we concentrate our attention on what the
final customer wants,” says Franz Hinterecker, CEO at KRAIBURG TPE. He adds: “ Using new
formulae we intend to pave the packaging industry’s way to new product ideas previously unattainable,
and using the simplest production processes”. With their excellent sealing properties and their superb
elasticity thermoplastic elastomers support new developments in the packaging field in
numerous ways: The focus here is not only on transportation and storage containers but also on multi-
function systems to handle metering or sealing needs. By utilizing TPE manufacturers will in the future
profit not only from expanded and more complex functions but also from simplified production
parameters. Thanks to their highly desirable bonding properties these elastomers allow the use of time -
and cost efficient- multi-component processing. Compared with concepts involving assembly work,
logistics are simplified and product hygiene is enhanced What’s more, thermoplastic elastomers offer
decisive advantages in terms of product design since they can be dyed, simply and quickly, in any shade
desired. Last but not least manufacturers can convince their customers with a further advantage associated
with TPE application: Thermoplastic elastomers with their soft-touch surfaces bring about pleasant tactile
properties that impart a sense of superior product quality.

http://www.tpe-magazine.com/nc/news/newsdetails/article/new-multi-layer-
technology-for-packaging-applications7783/
At Chinaplas 2010, PolyOne/GLS announced that it is exhibiting a multi-layer technology co-developed with Kautex
Machines, Bonn, Germany. This new technology is said to give packaging designers new options. PolyOne is displaying
co-extruded, blow-moulded HDPE bottles layered with TPE made using this technology at its stand at the fair in
Shanghai.
This allows designers to add the tactile feel and aesthetics of TPEs to HDPE containers and packaging while keeping costs down
and supporting environmental goals. GLS and Kautex Machines jointly developed a solution for co-extruding an ultra-thin outer
layer of translucent, customized Dynalloy onto recycled or virgin HDPE resin.
The companies said that this multi-layer process is a breakthrough solution for designers who want to apply soft touch or non-slip
surfaces onto packaging to differentiate their products. The new solution adds design possibilities ranging from customising the
degree of non-slip “grip” for safety or ergonomic reasons to adding a soft touch for enhanced aesthetics. It also provides the
option of colouring the TPE layer or allowing coloured HDPE to show through a translucent TPE layer, and supports the use of
recycled resin in selected layers to enhance sustainability. Further, it makes the use of a TPE economically practical for even the
most innovative container design.
Kautex processing technology for multiple layers can accommodate up to seven layers, providing opportunities to add an oxygen
barrier or other speciality layer. Packages may be designed, for example, with an inner layer of virgin HDPE for food contact
compliance, a middle layer of recycled HDPE and an outer layer of Dynalloy. Layers are co-extruded and bonded together before
blow moulding into a bottle or other part.
Kautex is able to precisely regulate the thickness of the TPE to provide optimal performance with only a few mils of material –
usually 2 to 3 percent of the total. Dynalloy can be customised to provide varying levels of grip or soft touch, and can be coloured
in a wide range of hues.
“Our proprietary extrusion technology allows customers to keep material costs equal to or even below the costs of HDPE alone,”
said Chuck Flammer, vice president of sales for Kautex Machines. “We achieve this by minimizing the amount of TPE needed
for the desired effect, reducing the amount of masterbatch needed by colouring only the TPE or the underlying HDPE, and using
recycled resin as appropriate. This approach lets customers enhance the value, appearance and sustainability of their products
without increasing costs.”
