The Manufacturing Toolkit can be downloaded to a PC, free of charge, from FreeScale’s web
site:

Before using the Manufacturing Toolkit a profile must be created for the DPI620G in folder
<Install Folder>\Profiles\MX53 WinCE Update\AMC. This should be based on an existing
i.MX53 profile.
When the Manufacturing Toolkit is used the first time, the Freescale i.MX53 USB BulkIO Device
Driver must be installed on the PC from folder <Install Folder>\Drivers.
The FPGA is pre-programmed on the PCA as delivered by the subcontract production supplier.
This FPGA may be upgraded via the Genii application upgrade option.
1. Copy the FPGA program file(s) to a folder named ‘FPGA, located at the root directory of a
USB memory stick
2. Insert the memory stick in the USB slot
3. From the Genii application dashboard, touch the ‘Advanced’ button.
4. Enter PIN number 5487
5. Select Upgrade option from the menu.
6. Select the CH1 FPGA option.
7. Select ‘Yes’ from the ‘Confirm Upgrade’ prompt.
8. Power down and restart the instrument once the ‘Software Upgrade’ message appears.
9. The FPGA will be automatically upgraded.
10. Wait until the upgrade completes and the application restarts. This will happen
automatically and may take several minutes.
11. Remove the memory stick.
1. Copy the AMC application folder to the root of a USB memory stick.
2. Insert the memory stick in the USB slot.
3. Press and hold the power button on.
4. The application will be automatically upgraded.
5. Release the power button once the progress bar appears. This may take several
seconds.
6. Wait until the upgrade completes and the upgraded application is running. This will
happen automatically and may take several minutes.
7. Remove the memory stick
1. Copy the AMC application folder to the root of a USB memory stick
2. Insert the memory stick in the USB slot
3. From the Genii application dashboard, touch the ‘Advanced’ button.
4. Enter PIN number 5487
5. Select Upgrade option from the menu.
6. Select APPLICATION option.
This HART modem firmware may be upgraded via the Genii application upgrade option.
NOTE: The HART Processor Application (DK0417) and the HART Processor Bootloader
(DK0416) may be upgraded at the same time, as a single process. If all the required files are
present on the upgrade folder (on the memory stick) following the process for either of the
HART processor firmware components (DK0416 or DK0417) will upgrade both.
1. Copy the HART processor firmware file(s) to a folder named ‘HART’, located at the root
directory of a USB memory stick
2. Insert the memory stick in the USB slot
3. From the Genii application dashboard, touch the ‘Advanced’ button.
4. Enter PIN number 5487
5. Select Upgrade option from the menu.
6. Select the HART DRIVER option.
7. Select ‘Yes’ from the ‘Confirm Upgrade’ prompt.
8. Power down and restart the instrument once the ‘Software Upgrade’ message appears.
9. The HART modem firmware will be automatically upgraded.
10. Wait until the upgrade completes and the application restarts. This will happen
automatically and may take several minutes.
11. Remove the memory stick.
The HART processor bootloader may be upgraded via the Genii application upgrade option.
NOTE: The HART Processor Application (DK0417) and the HART Processor Bootloader
(DK0416) may be upgraded at the same time, as a single process. If all the required files are
present on the upgrade folder (on the memory stick) following the process for either of the
HART processor firmware components (DK0416 or DK0417) will upgrade both.
1. Copy the HART processor bootloader firmware file(s) to a folder named ‘HART’, located
at the root directory of a USB memory stick
2. Insert the memory stick in the USB slot
3. From the Genii application dashboard, touch the ‘Advanced’ button.
4. Enter PIN number 5487
5. Select Upgrade option from the menu.
6. Select the HART BOOT LOADER option.
7. Select ‘Yes’ from the ‘Confirm Upgrade’ prompt.
8. Power down and restart the instrument once the ‘Software Upgrade’ message appears.
9. The HART modem firmware will be automatically upgraded.
10. Wait until the upgrade completes and the application restarts. This will happen
automatically and may take several minutes.
11. Remove the memory stick.
• Once the file is extracted, open the SD card drive. The files structure should appear like:
• Remove the microSD memory card from the reader and insert into the card slot in the
DPI620 Genii battery compartment.
1. Connect Genii-IS to a PC via the USB port, where it will appear as an external device, eg.
(DPI620 (F:) ). Copy the files to the device:
a. Create a folder called “Install” in the root of the device
b. Create a folder called “OS” under “Install”
c. Copy eboot.nb0 to the OS folder
d. Copy nk.nb0 to the OS folder
2. From the Genii IS application, take the operating system upgrade option:
a. Touch the ADVANCED button on the dashboard
b. Enter 5487
c. Select UPGRADE
d. Select OPERATING SYSTEM and confirm selection
3. Switch the power off with a long press of the power button
4. Switch the Genii power on
5. The new boot loader and operating system will be installed. This will take several
minutes. Wait until the Genii application is running.
6. Switch the power off with a long press of the power button
7. Switch the power on.
8. The new version of boot loader and operating system will be loaded

6. Select the CH1 FPGA option.
7. Select ‘Yes’ from the ‘Confirm Upgrade’ prompt.
8. Power down and restart the instrument once the ‘Software Upgrade’ message appears.
9. The FPGA will be automatically upgraded.
10. Wait until the upgrade completes and the application restarts. This will happen
automatically and may take several minutes.
1. Switch on Genii IS. It will search for the application upgrade software and not find it as it has
not been copied onto Genii IS yet, and display a dialog with options to Cancel or Retry. Do
not select either at this stage.
1. Switch on Genii IS. Connect Genii-IS to a PC via the USB port, where it will appear as an
external device, eg. (DPI620 (F:) ).
2. Copy the AMC folder to F:/Install.
3. Press and hold the power button to switch off.
4. Press and hold the power button to switch on and continue to hold until the dialog appears
asking to Force OS Upgrade - Yes or No. Select No.
5. The application will be automatically upgraded.
6. Release the power button once the progress bar appears. This may take several seconds.
7. Wait until the upgrade completes and the upgraded application is running. This will happen
automatically and may take several minutes.
1. Switch on Genii IS. Connect Genii-IS to a PC via the USB port, where it will appear as an
external device, eg. (DPI620 (F:) ).
2. Copy the AMC folder to F:/Install.

This HART modem firmware may be upgraded via the Genii IS application upgrade option.
1. Switch on Genii IS. Connect Genii-IS to a PC via the USB port, where it will appear as an
external device, eg. (DPI620 (F:) ).
2. Copy the HART processor firmware file to a folder named ‘HART’ under F:/Install.
3. From the Genii application dashboard, touch the ‘Advanced’ button.
4. Enter PIN number 5487
5. Select Upgrade option from the menu.
6. Select the HART DRIVER option.
7. Select ‘Yes’ from the ‘Confirm Upgrade’ prompt.
8. Power down and restart the instrument once the ‘Software Upgrade’ message appears.
9. The HART modem firmware will be automatically upgraded.
10. Wait until the upgrade completes and the application restarts. This will happen
automatically and may take several minutes.
The HART processor bootloader cannot be upgraded via the Genii application upgrade option.
• Once the file is extracted, open the drive. The files structure should appear like:
