Abbreviations for Common Valve Terminology
This gate valve has all the features of a standard gate valve, but
the materials used in construction allow it to be used in
applications where hydrofluoric acid is used.
Low stress bolting materials B7M and fine grain Carbon steels are
required to provide resistance to chemical attack.
Trim materials are Monel K500 this includes stem, seats, and gate.
Stainless steels are not acceptable, gasket materials required are
monel SPW with PTFE fillers.
Packing materials are to be PTFE. Specialized paints are to be used
on flange outer diameters, bonnet interface joints and gland areas,
these paints change color in contact with hydrofluoric acids and
provide visual indication of leakage.
Personnel engaged in repair and testing of these valves must wear
Safety Glasses, Gauntlets, Respirators and full protective coveralls.
All valves in HF service must be decontaminated using Soda ash
and water to dilute or neutralize HF before valves are stripped.
HF ACID CAN KILL
WOG applications
Designed with fire safe provisions.
Has facilities for emergency seat and stem injection.
Single slab, no wedging action (low operating torque)
Full bore allows for pipe pigging.
Reliable isolation provided by soft seat inserts being constantly
energized by springs and upstream pressure to gate face.
Seat Parallelism is critical for long term performance.
Seat face is never in flow path as valve is opened and closed, can
be used on processes with solids entrainment.
Double block and bleed, body cavity vent or thermal relief valve
fitted to eliminate body pressure rising through changes in ambient
temperatures causing trapped hydrocarbons to expand within body
cavity.
Can be installed Vertically or Horizontally, larger valves will require
additional support for actuator mounting.
Available in various body and trim materials can be used on
elevated process temperatures.
Can be supplied in all API pressure classes Flanged RF, RTJ and
Buttwelded ends
Piston Check
Manufactured in Flanged ANSI 600# - 1500#
Raised Face / RTJ ends / Weld end configuration
Available in all trim codes and body material designations.
Can be bolted bonnet or pressure seal design
General Purpose applications.
Install r horizontally preferred.
Can be modified to accept counterweight to minimize abrupt
closure
And subsequent pipe hammer, preferred over conventional swing
check for better responsiveness and shut of can have angular seat
or flat seat.
Prone to more cavitations due to flow change direction over
conventional swing check valve
Check manufacturers flow direction stamped to body
WOG
Nitrile is another commonly used liner. It is well suited for use with
most petroleum oils and greases, most automotive-grade gasoline,
fuel oils, glycol, alcohol and other petroleum products.
Provides all of the design benefits of the butterfly valve, and the
lugged body provides precision alignment in pipelines during
installation.
Fully lugged design provides higher pressure rating of valve Can be
installed Vertically or Horizontally.
Liner and disc materials available in many materials based on
service applications
¼ turn operation Gearbox, Electric, Pneumatic operation available.
Liner provides sealing at flange interface joints no gaskets
required.
This type of safety valve uses the flowing medium itself, through a
pilot valve, to apply the closing force on the safety valve disc. The
pilot valve is itself a small safety valve. There are two basic types
of pilot operated safety valve, namely, the diaphragm and piston
type.
The piston type valve consists of a main valve, which uses a piston
shaped closing device, and an external pilot valve, very accurate
set pressure are attainable with this valve. Install Vertically only
Works on the principal of a cage with holes, and a plug that seals
off the holes, allowing the flow to be throttled depending on the
percentage of holes in the cage that are open.
However, when the plug is fully withdrawn, the flow is still
obstructed by the cage that is still present in the flow path.
Commonly used in Wellhead production to regulate flow of Gas or
Oil, can be used in steam and water applications.
Trims are generally hardfaced and available in Tungsten Carbide
for increased wear and service life.
Seating can be flat or angular based on manufacturer.
Can be operated manually, Electrically or Pneumatically, positioners
can be fitted for direct feedback.
Designed for throttling applications, can be installed Vertically or
horizontally (Vertical Position Preferred)
Can be supplied in Butt Weld, Flanged or Screwed configurations
Orbit Valve
The 'UNIFLOW' slide valve design for isolation and blowdown duty
offers quick action, (180° turn between full open and
shut). Available in sizes 15 - 40mm. ASME Class 150 to BS16.34
intermediate class buttweld.
Can be installed Vertically or horizontally excellent on high
temperature or thermal cycling applications, spring loaded seat
can compensate for temperature and pressure fluctuations.
Can come in Butt Weld or flanged design
Parallel Slide Valve
Pressure seal design shown also available in conventional bolted
bonnet, flanged, Buttweld ends.
Low operating torque required to open and close, larger valves
fitted with equalizing or warming lines to equal pressure from
upstream – downstream side when opening main valve.
Preferred use in high temperature steam applications, sealing is
achieved by downstream metal – metal contact between disc and
seat
Easily distinguished over a gate valve by bridge guide on pillars.
Unlike wedge gate valves does not rely on torque to achieve
downstream isolation.
Disc spring designed to take up thermal expansion and cooling of
discs to maintain constant contact. Larger valves fitted with
additional belt eye fitted to stem to protect seats from process
mediums.
It is critical that seats and discs are parallel and of extreme flatness
to obtain optimum seal.
Valve designed with backseat capability for live repacking.
Can be used in WOG applications but will not provide double block
and bleed functions.
Can be installed horizontally or vertically.
Valve must not be overtightened to close Valve Opens and Closes
on mechanical stops no extra torque is required this will result in
damage to valve
This valve has all of the design advantages of a parallel slide valve.
Actuation of the valve is by rack and pinion, making operation easy
with only a half turn required to fully open or shut the valve.
Sealing is affected on downstream disc.
Seat parallelism and flatness is critical to obtaining tight shutoff.
Excellent in elevated temperature applications and discs can move
and compensate for thermal expansion.
Can be installed Vertically or Horizontally, manual operation,
electric, pneumatic possible.
Can be screwed, flanged or buttwelded.
Can be used in WOG applications.
Provides very repeatable isolation when in good condition
The single acting actuator only applies force in one direction, and
relies on a spring force or similar to reverse the operation. A fail
open or closed actuator has the benefit of remaining in its desired
position in the occurrence of a failure.
Electric Actuator
Lever Actuator
Spiral Wound
RTJ
O-rings
O rings and seals can come in various designs and shapes based
on applications. Sizing dimensions are critical ensuring correct fit
between parts.
Can come in Metric or Imperial sizes
Cavity Drains
