Enrollment
(This information is only relevant if you are required to hold a visa when entering Germany.)
10. I do not live in Germany yet. How can I obtain proof of health insurance coverage
from abroad?
Please contact a German statutory health insurance company and request a health insurance prior to your arrival
in Germany (usually, you may send this request by email).
Your German health insurance company will issue the required certificate that you need for your enrollment.
b) a certificate confirming that you are exempted from mandatory health insurance with a statutory health
insurance company (e.g. if you have private health insurance)
If you have further questions and need detailed advice, please contact a German health insurance company.
11. I have already arranged a health insurance in my home country. It also covers my
stay abroad/visa. Is this sufficient?
No. We always need a certificate on your health insurance coverage issued by a German statutory health insurance
(see no. 10).
12. I do not have a German address. What can I do? May I indicate TH Köln’s mailing
address?
No. TH Köln’s mailing address (or the mailing address of our International Office) cannot be used as your German
address.
Alternatively, you may use a friend’s German address. If you do so, please indicate your friend’s name as “Zusatz/
c/o” to ensure the post office finds the correct addressee.
Please note:
- Your German address or your friend’s German address and name are to be indicated on the enrollment
form (page 1)
- You are to ensure that all relevant letters and documents can be submitted correctly by mail. These
letters/documents include:
Please log in to https://bewerbung.th-koeln.de, select your submitted application and click on "++ Information
Service ++" in the application section.
Please be advised that only the section “Current status of your documents“ is updated.
Please kindly refrain from inquiring about the status of your enrollment. Your processing status will be updated
as soon as possible.
16. When is my enrollment complete? When should I pay the semester fees?
Once you are enrolled, you will receive a letter by mail indicating the payment deadline as well as information on
how to pay the semester fees. Please do not make any payments until you receive the letter, otherwise your
payment cannot be processed.
Your enrollment is completed only after TH Köln has received your payment for the semester fees. From this time
on, you are considered a student.

19. How and when will I receive my student ID card and my public transport pass?
You will receive your student ID card, called MultiCa, by mail after your enrollment (see no. 13). About six days after
we have received your payment for the semester fees, you can validate your card using one of TH Köln’s validating
stations.
Once your MultiCa is validated, it will serve as your public transport passes for the Rhein-Sieg transportation
network (VRS semester ticket) as well as for all of North Rhine-Westphalia (SemesterTicket NRW). Additional
information on your public transport passes will be sent to you by mail.
