NGP (NEW GENERATION PLATFORM): GD3
/ GA3 / INTIP3 / PowerMEX / ARMADA

1. GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1 Compatibility
NGP boards are compatible from Release 9.1.

1.2 Aim of NGP (New Generation Platform)

NGP is intended:
− To cover all hardware and software obsolescence for MG (GD/GA) and INTIP.
− To provide hardware and software converged solution for both Crystal hardware and Common
hardware architecture.
− Based on up to date Linux kernel 2.6, ready for new hardware and software technology including
Ipv6 migration.

1.3 NGP enhancements

− Improvement of OmniPCX Enterprise IPGW performances.
− Increase of channels per DSP (16 channels per DSP instead of 8 with previous hardware).
− Improvement of maintenance tools.

1.4 New boards

1.4.1 INTIP3

They replace INTIP2 boards.

− Only ARMADA daughter boards are accepted. GIP4 and GIP6 are not supported.
− 30 compression channels are embedded on the motherboard.
− Only one additional ARMADA board is allowed on INTIP3B => 60 VoIP channels.
− 3 additional ARMADA boards are allowed on INTIP3A => 120 VoIP channels. If SoftMSM
feature (encryption) is used, then the maximum number of compressors is 60.
− INTIP Main and Stand-By have to be of the same type.
− INTIPA and INTIP3B can be mixed.
− IOIP firmware is not supported.
− DTM synchronization function is embedded. No need to plug an additional DECT8 synchro
board. Refer to technical communication TC0274 DECT compatibilities.
− The USB connector, present on NGP boards, is not taken into account by the board binary.

NGP (NEW GENERATION PLATFORM): GD3
/ GA3 / INTIP3 / PowerMEX / ARMADA

− NGP boards provide two 10/100/1000 Base-T connectors. Either Ethernet connector can be
used but not both in the same time. Currently Ethernet redundancy is not available on NGP
boards.

1.4.2 GD3/GA3

They replace GD/GA.

− 30 compression channels are embedded on the motherboard.
− An additional ARMADA board on GD3 / GA3 allows to have 60 VoIP channels per Gateway
(instead of 24 on GD/GA).
− Mix of GD/GD2/GA/GA2 and GD3/GA3 boards in a same IPMG is not possible.
− Only ARMADA daughter boards are accepted. MCV and MADA boards are not supported.
− Only PowerMex is accepted.
− The USB connector, present on NGP boards, is not taken into account by the board binary.
− NGP boards provide two 10/100/1000 Base-T connectors. Either Ethernet connector can be
used but not both in the same time. Currently Ethernet redundancy is not available on NGP
boards.
− HSL and AFU daughter boards are compatible with GD3 board.

1.4.3 ARMADA

− Two DSPs by ARMADA board provide 30 VoIP channels.

− Common daughter board for VoIP extension for Crystal / Common Hardware.
− As compression resources are embedded on the INTIP3/MG3 boards, the ARMADA daughter
board is not mandatory.

1.4.4 PowerMex

− Treats component obsolescence.

− Uses same Telecom DSP as GD3.
− Available only behind GD3.

1.5 New Services

− Ethernet Gigabit Interface: 10 /100 /1000
− T38 Fax Relay between IPMG and inter-nodes: extend the fax mode (restricted to pure H323
calls) to inter ACT and inter node calls. Release 8.0.1 at least is needed to operate.
− Binary authentication. NGP binaries (secured or not) are systematically signed. This signature is
checked in all cases by Call Server (protect or bypass mode).
− Encryption of embedded signaling link with CS ("SoftMSM").
− Encryption of Voice and Fax ("SoftMSM"/"VoiceMSM").

OmniPCX Enterprise
NGP (NEW GENERATION PLATFORM): GD3
/ GA3 / INTIP3 / PowerMEX / ARMADA

− The INTIP3 in Main state makes a soft reset when it switches on PCS (idem GD/GD3).

1.6 Services removed

− Proprietary H323 inter-node mode.
− Inter-working with LIOE board.
− Intra proprietary fax mode (when upgrading system to R9.1, proprietary Fax mode will be
automatically modified to T38 Fax Mode with ability to configure manually the fax parameters to
proprietary mode).
− "Non RTP direct" mode.
− TDM transit not supported nor on GD3 nor INTIP3 (was possible with INTIP2).
− Contrary to INTIP, the INTIP3 board doesn’t support transit function. So with NGP, whatever the
board used, the direct RTP mode is the only mode to take into account.
− Dynamic attribution of IP address by a DHCP server.

2. IMPLEMENTATION

2.1 Visual check

− Check that the SDcard is present and properly plugged. It is located on the rear panel of GD3 /
GDA3. SDcard is the flash memory of NGP couplers. Its size is 256 MB. It will subsequently
evolve.
− Check the position of the DIP switches.
Note
The DIP switches on the NGP boards have not to be changed. The only reason for which it could
be modified on GD/GA boards was to enter in LOLA mode: with NGP boards, this mode is
useless as a flash format is automatically performed when a network boot is done. Besides this
component is quite fragile.
− GD3: 2 is ON and 1, 3, 4 are OFF. They are located on the right of the battery.
− GA3: 1, 2 in ON and 3, 4 are OFF.
− INTIP3B and INTIP3A: 1 and 2 are not used, 3 is OFF, 4 is ON. They are located on the right of
the "STOP" button.
− There is no more DIP switch to set ACT number on INTIP3B.

2.2 Configuration
Since R9.1, installing a new OPS files create automatically NGP boards.

2.2.1 Configuration for the common hardware

− Create a main rack creates a GD3 by default.

Ed. 02 / 10 February 2011 5 TC1372

OmniPCX Enterprise
NGP (NEW GENERATION PLATFORM): GD3
/ GA3 / INTIP3 / PowerMEX / ARMADA

− Create a secondary rack creates a PowerMEX by default.

− In a Media Gateway it is not possible to mix GD / GA or MEX with NGP hardware.
Note
MAO allows the replacement of a GD or GD2 by GD3. So it is not necessary to delete GD rack
before creating NGP rack. In this case if GA and MEX are present in the Media Gateway they are
automatically replaced by GA3 and PowerMEX.
− Configure the MAC address of GD3 in "Ethernet parameters" of the board.

2.2.2 Configuration for hardware 4400

− Mixing INTIPA and INTIP3B or INTIP3A and INTIPB is possible.

Note
IOIP cannot be managed on an INTIP3.
It is mandatory to manage the MAC address of the INTIP3B in its "Ethernet parameters", because
there is no DIP switches to configure the number of ACT on the board.

2.2.3 Fax compatibility

Release 9.1 sets the T38 only boolean to Yes (/IP/Parameters Fax/T38 only) during the
translation of the database, because the proprietary T38 mode is no more available on NGP
boards.

If the T38 only boolean is set to No and if fax is connected on an NGP IPMG, this
can create frequent GD3 or INTIP3 reboot.

2.3 Implementing the NGP boards

Notes
− Even if NGP board is received for add-on on an existing system or for a new system, it must
contain a binary which is able to download the latest binary. If you receive NGP boards with
empty SDcard (SDcard reboots permanently when starting) you must inform technical support,
and use the technical communication TC0521 Ed04 minimum Reformating and reloading the
GD/GD3/INTIP3 Nand Flash with PC Installer, chapter 3 Erasing and reloading of GD3 or INTIP3
board. The procedure is identical for GD3 or INTIP3.
− GD3 and INTIP3 have the same software, so installation, configuration and maintenance tools
are common for both boards.

2.3.1 Common hardware

− Plug the ARMADA daughter board, and HSL daughter board if necessary.
− Connect Ethernet cable on LAN or LAN-2 connector.
− Connect a terminal on the V24 connector.

TC1372 6 Ed. 02 / 10 February 2011

OmniPCX Enterprise
NGP (NEW GENERATION PLATFORM): GD3
/ GA3 / INTIP3 / PowerMEX / ARMADA

− Switch on power on GD3 board. If GD3 is received for add-on it will start on SDcard until
mgconfig IP configuration menu.
− If GD3 is received for a new site, IP configuration menu is not offered because it was already
done in factory, then you must log as root and type mgconfig.
Note
It is not possible to connect to mgconfig menu when you are logged as admin. Log root directly.
admin account is no more used for NGP boards.

2.3.2 Hardware 4400

− Plug one to 3 ARMADA daughter boards. Only one ARMADA is possible for INTIP3B and three
on INTIP3A. The first daughter board is located near connectors.
− Plug Ethernet interface 10, 100.1000 BT connector reference 3BA 23278 AA on the backpanel.
− Connect the Ethernet cable on Ethernet eth-0 or eth-1 connector.
− Connect a terminal on the output V24.
− On the first plug, INTIP3 starts on SDCard.
− When INTIP3 is plugged on CPU position as INTIPB, it starts until mgconfig IP configuration
menu. If IP configuration menu is not offered, you must log as root and type mgconfig.
− When INTIP3 is plugged on coupler position as INTIPA, mgconfig menu is not proposed to
configure IP configuration. This configuration must be performed using MAO like for GA board.
Note
Before unplugging the board you must shutdown INTIP3 by pushing "STOP" button and waiting for
CPU led turned to red light.

3. MAINTENANCE

3.1 How to make a remote connection on NGP boards?

telnet is not authorized by default on NGP boards.
To validate telnet, it is necessary to connect first to NGP coupler with cpl_online <cr> <cpl>
then open telnet server with choice 13 in mgconfig menu.
Next telnet connection will be possible using telnet_al <IP@>.
Note
ippstat tool is no more used for NGP boards.

3.2 How to format and flash NGP board NAND flash (SDcard)?
Refer to the technical communication TC0521 Ed04 minimum Reformating and reloading the
GD/GD3/INTIP3 Nand Flash with PC Installer chapter 3. Erasing and reloading of GD3 or INTIP3
board.

Ed. 02 / 10 February 2011 7 TC1372

OmniPCX Enterprise
NGP (NEW GENERATION PLATFORM): GD3
/ GA3 / INTIP3 / PowerMEX / ARMADA

This new procedure uses PC Installer. It is identical for GD3/GA3 and INTIP3. It links format and
flash SDcard and don’t use LOLA mode.

3.3 How to collect log files?

Logs storage method is the same for GD3/GA3 and INTIP3.
− Current logs are stored in RAM memory under /var/log directory.
− Logs before the last reboot are stored under /mnt/flash/info directory.
− The five oldest logs are stored under /mnt/flash/info/previous directory, but are zipped.
Different ways to retrieve logs on an NGP board.
1 By using mgconfig menu.
Enter mgconfig menu and select option 14 - Archive log files. log.tar.gz archive
file is created under /home/tftpboot directory.
Upload the file on an external FTP server, that can be the OmniPCX Enterprise if SSH is not
activated or an external server using ftpput command.
ftpput -u <login> -p <pwd> <IP_@_FTP_server> /home/tftpboot/log.tar.gz
<filename_on_FTP_server>

Or simply use tftp command from the Call Server:

tftp <GD3/INTIP3ip address>

tftp> bin
tftp> get log.tar.gz
tftp> quit

2 By using infocollect tool.

This method is available:
• from "infocollect" version 3.7 downloadable from BPWS,
• and from OmniPCX Enterprise version I1.605.18.
For more information, refer to technical communication TC0944 Tools to retrieve configuration,
incidents and log files on an OmniPCX Enterprise system: infocollect and olca tools.
Use the option -i (infocollect -i) and answer y to the gd module.
Then you will be asked to retrieve logs from ALL GD3/GA3/INTIP3 boards or just one by
specifying its <CR> <cpl>.
Generated archive file is loaded in /tmpd directory.

3.4 New incident 6002

Incident 6002 replaces incident 4402 for GD3/GA3 and INTIP3 couplers. It describes different
events detected in the VoIP modules and needs special attention.
