In a Drama/Comedy-drama “Gifted” which is all about a single man raising his

genius little niece, Mary, and so far homeschooled after the death of her mother. I’m not
normally one for family type movie however, it is one of the great movie to watch. After
seeing the movie “Gifted”, there are a lot of things you can learn and it consist a lot of
virtues. One of the virtues that I saw in the movie is having humility. Frank, who is the
uncle of Mary, the gifted child, doesn’t just think about her own self. He wanted to send
Mary to school even though Mary is somewhat different to other kids as she’s a gifted
child. He wanted to give Mary a normal life and treat her as a normal kid even there is a
risk or chance of putting away Mary from Him if everyone knew that she’s gifted. He’s
deciding not for his self but for the life of his niece. He fears Mary will not have a chance at
a normal childhood and that shows the quality of being humble and putting the needs of
her niece first before his own. The second virtue that I saw in this movie is having a
courage. As Frank fighting over his niece against his mother in court. Evelyn, the
grandmother wanted to get Mary for her hidden motive to train his granddaughter to
be like her mother who is also gifted but, Frank insists that his sister would want Mary to
be in a normal public school and have the childhood she didn't have. Frank argues that
Evelyn’s parenting deprived Mary’s Mother of normal life which was when she first
attempted suicide. Frank had the courage to fight even with his own mother for his niece
to give her a normal life. He confidently and bravely done all the things he can do to keep
Mary stay at his side for him to be able to raise her like a normal kid. The last virtue is
compassion. Frank saw his sister suffered in her life just for being gifted. She doesn’t
experience, having a friend or even playing with other kids when she was young because
her mother always wanted her to study and be a famous mathematician in the future. The
mother of Mary told frank that she wanted to raise her child in an environment that will
challenge her and allow her to grow. She doesn’t want her child to have a life just like
hers. Frank shows compassion towards her sister and so Frank raised Mary and gave
her normal life like what his sister wanted for her child. Mary stayed in a regular school in
order to make friends and lead the other kids. Mary had the normal life like what her
mother wanted.

In a Drama/Comedy-drama “Gifted”, aside for its virtues, it also consists some

vices or by its definition, a practice, behavior, or habit generally considered immoral and
sinful. The first vices that I saw in this movie is Greed. By Evelyn’s action, the mother of
Frank and the Grandmother of Mary, she became eaten by her own desire for success
and possessions. In the movie, it mentioned that she was also a great mathematician in
the past but couldn’t continue because she started to have a family so she passed her
desire to her daughter, which is Mary’s Mother. Because of her own greed, she doesn’t
notice how bad it is for her children. She became selfish and manipulative. She wanted
her daughter to keep on attempting to find smooth solutions to the Navier-Stokes
equations to the point that her daughter killed herself because of it. Because of greed,
she lost her daughter. The second vices are Pride. Again, it’s Evelyn, who showed pride
all throughout the movie. Even she knew what happened to his daughter in the past
because of her doing, she still continued to argue that Mary should live with her for her
owns hidden motive. Evelyn still wanted Mary to continue what her mother hasn’t finished.
When the court placed Mary in foster care for Mary to be able to decide where she wants
to live after her 12th birthday, Mary’s foster father says Mary refuses to see Frank and that
was made by Evelyn. Evelyn is secretly meeting with her granddaughter to teach her
math problems. Because of her pride, she again doesn’t notice how bad it is for Mary.
She’ll keep on doing what she has done to her daughter back then.
