ABOUT COMPANY

 HISTORY OF NIRANI SUGARS

 The Plant Project was planned in year 1996. They placed their plant in the year 1997. They
started first commercial order in the year 1998 on 14th April and then it continued.
 In the year 1998 the crushing capacity was 500 TCD. In 1999 Nirani Sugars expanded their
crushing capacity from 500 TCD to 750 TCD. Now the industry’s cane crushing capacity is
20000 TCD.
 They are now generating 64MW of electric power, in this 15-18MW of power is used for
 industry and remaining is exporting for KPTCL.

 LOCATION OF COMPANY
 The factory is placed between Mudhol and Kulali, which is selected by committee and its
partners and approved by govt. of Karnataka.
 The factory is situated in such a place that the sugar cane is the basic crop of formers;this
helps the availability of raw materials easily.
 The sugar cane grown in this is facilitated by irrigation through river Ghatapraba that flows
all over Taluka.

CO-GENERATION PLANT
 INTRODUCTION
 Co-generation is the concept of producing two forms of energy from one fuel. One
of the forms of energy must always be heat and the other may be electricity or
mechanical energy.
 In conventional power plant, fuel is burnt in a boiler to generator high pressure
steam. This steam is used to drive a turbine, which in turn drives an alternator
through a steam turbine to produce electric power.
 The exhaust steam is generally condensed to water which goes back to the boiler.

FUEL HANDLING SYSTEM

 The main fuel used here is biogas from mills and biomass like cane trash, wood chips etc..
 Coal is also used as one of the possible fuels for which we have planned a coal handling
system in this second phase.

ADVANTAGES OF CO-GENERATION

 Co-Generation is an energy management solution for today.

 More efficient energy conversion. Over 90 percent of the energy in the original fuel
is put to the productive house.
 Co-Generation can be extended to tri-generation for better fuel energy utilization
in regenerative heating and cooling system.

TASK PERFORMED
 FIRST WEEK
 During the course of first week of my internship I was studied about company and
history of Nirani and I learned the basic details of Sugar industry.
 SECOND WEEK
 During the course of second week of my internship under the task of internship
coordinator we observed the cogeneration plant, studied the different parts and
note down details.
 THIRD WEEK
 We made planned to studied the cogeneration process and machines in discipline
manner. And made the notes and report and about the raw materials.
 FOURTH WEEK
 We learned cogeneration plant working principles and plant power generation capacity and
cooling tower with the help of industry workers.

REFLECTION

I have done my internship in NIRANI SUGARS LIMITTED, MUDHOL and

successfully completed one month industrial training. I have learnt about production of
the sugar from the sugar cane to the packing of sugar.
Initially we visited various departments like VIZ, Milling, Boiling and Cogeneration
departments .
Finally Internship is very helpful for our future growth related to sugar industry.

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

CONCLUSION

1. NIRANI SUGARS LTD, it is one of the leading sugar industries in North Karnataka, which
produces sugar and by products and supplied all over Karnataka and other states.
2. All the departments play a vital role in every organization. A function of all the departments
provides material to the factory without wheel of machines can not move.
3. All sections are working efficiently. The production capacity of sugar has been improved.
4. In the course of study I have acquired theoretical knowledge and also practical knowledge
in factory.
