Gas Requirements
Operating (Instrument) Air:
Dry (-40º C Dew Point), oil-free, at 345 kPa (50 psi) minimum, and 3.4 to 5.1 m3/h
(2 to 3 ft3/min) at standard conditions. Maximum supply pressure 690 kPa (100
psi).
Carrier Gas:
Per application; e.g., He (helium), N2 (nitrogen), or H2 (hydrogen).
Chromatograph grade required. 415 kPa (60 psi) maximum.
Zero Hydrogen:
Chromatographic grade (hydrocarbon-free), dry hydrogen at 40 cm3/min (2.4 in3/
min) - required for a flame ionization detector (FID) and 140 cm3/min
(8.4 in³/min) for a flame photometric detector (FPD). 415 kPa (60 psi) maximum.
Zero Air:
Chromatographic grade (hydrocarbon-free), dry air at 400 cm3/min (0.85 ft3/hr) -
required for FID. 415 kPa (60 psi) maximum.
Ultra-High Research Grade Purity Helium (required for HID detector):
Ultra high research purity grade (99.9995% purity minimum), at ~50 cm3/min (per
Application) - 415 kPa (60 psi) maximum, with Ultra high purity grade gas
pressure regulator with stainless steel diaphragm.

Repeatability (1Sigma) is calculated with the formula shown below for minimum 4 hours
(Standard period):
Repeatability % = [(Standard Deviation) / Range of Analysis] * 100
If a 95% Confidence (2Sigma) is required/specified, the following formula is used for the
minimum 4 hours (Standard test period):
Repeatability % = {[(Standard Deviation) / Range of Analysis] * 100} * 2.77

Measurement by Peak Height


Repeatability for peak height is typically half that value specified for area integration (for
example, for a range of 0 to 100%, repeatability is 0.5%).

Minimum Detectability
Minimum detectability is application dependent. For specific details, contact Applied
Instrument Technologies. Typically, this is defined as 2 times the noise, peak to peak.

Instrument Identification
The data label identifying the specific FXi is located on the left side of the oven
enclosure.
