under the EU Settlement Scheme. You will receive notification of the outcome in
due course.
If, at the end of the transition period at 11pm on 31 December 2020, you were
lawfully resident in the UK under the Immigration (European Economic Area)
Regulations 2016, or had a right of permanent residence under those Regulations,
you can continue to rely on these residence rights until you are granted status
under the scheme or your application is refused, including following any appeal
against a decision to refuse your application.
If you have sent us your passport or identity document in support of your application, and
it is not enclosed with this certificate of application, we will return it as soon as we can.
You should not make any travel plans until it is returned to you. If you need your passport
because you have to travel urgently and unexpectedly, please use the return of
documents request form at: www.gov.uk/visa-documents-returned.
We will contact you if we need any further information in order to process your application.
We will use the email address and mobile phone number you gave us in your application
to contact you and to tell you about the outcome of your application. If these details have
changed, you need to tell us by going to 'Update your EU Settlement Scheme details'
which can be found at: update-your-details.homeoffice.gov.uk.
A digital certificate of application will be issued to you soon which you will be able to view
online, via the 'view and prove your immigration status' service: www.gov.uk/view-prove-
immigration-status.
This online service provides a secure record of your pending application which is held
digitally by the Home Office and which is available to you until your application is finally
determined. Whilst your application or appeal is pending, including where you have
chosen to make your appeal after an administrative review decision, you can use this

service to share details of this with others, including to prove your right to work in the UK
and your right to rent property in England. We will contact you to let you know when this
service is available.

Note for employers, landlords and service providers
Until 30 June 2021, EEA and Swiss citizens can demonstrate their right to work in the UK
and their right to rent property in England with their EEA or Swiss passport or national
identity card.
Non-EEA national family members of EEA or Swiss citizens, or a person with a derivative
right of residence, can demonstrate their right to work in the UK and right to rent property
in England with a valid biometric residence card or permit, if they hold one.
Alternatively, any of these persons can provide you with a share code that will allow you
to use the Home Office online service to view their right to work at www.gov.uk/view-right-
to-work, or to view their right to rent in England at www.gov.uk/view-right-to-rent.
There is no requirement to demonstrate a right to rent where the property is in Northern
Ireland, Scotland or Wales.

If the non-EEA national family member of an EEA or Swiss citizen does not have a
biometric residence document or other document referred to in the above guidance,
prospective employers may contact the Employer Checking Service at:
www.immigrationstatuscheck.service.gov.uk/employers/. You can request information
about their right to rent property in England by using the Landlord Checking Service which
can be found at: www.gov.uk/landlord-immigration-check.
A digital certificate of application will soon be issued to applicants, which will allow those
who submitted their application by 30 June 2021, and whose application or appeal is
pending including where they have chosen to make their appeal after an administrative
review decision, to prove their right to work in the UK and their right to rent property in
England using the Home Office online service until their application is finally determined.
Where a person is able to share details of their pending application or appeal with you
using the Home Office online service, you will not be required to verify this information
with the Home Office Employer or Landlord Checking Services.

Employers
This certificate of application may form the basis for the Employer Checking Service to
issue Positive Verification Notice, which can then be used to establish a statutory defence
against liability to pay a civil penalty under section 15 of the Immigration, Asylum and
Nationality Act 2006 for employing an illegal migrant worker. This should only be
necessary if the person is unable to provide documentation or to use the Home Office
online service to evidence their status in the UK in line with the right to work guidance
mentioned above.
You should request verification of this certificate of application using the Employer
Checking Service at www.gov.uk/employee-immigration-employment-status. Further
information about the Employer Checking Service and the responsibilities of employers
can be found at www.gov.uk/government/organisations/home-office, or contact:

Landlords – England only
This certificate of application may form the basis for the Landlord Checking Service to
issue a Positive Right to Rent Notice, which can be used to establish a statutory defence
against liability to pay a civil penalty under sections 23 and 25 of the Immigration Act 2014
where renting to an adult who is a disqualified person. This legislation applies only to
residential letting agreements in England. This should only be necessary if the person is
unable to provide documentation or use the Home Office online service to evidence their
status in the UK in line with the right to rent guidance mentioned above.

If the NHS, a relevant local authority or another government department wishes to
validate this certificate of application, they should contact the Home Office via established

other documentation or use the Home Office online services to evidence their status in
the UK.
