INSTAGRAM
Study of Organization
Instagram (commonly abbreviated to IG or Insta) is an American photo and video
sharing social networking service created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. In April
2012, Facebook acquired the service for approximately US$1 billion in cash and stock.
The app allows users to upload media that can be edited with filters and organized by
hashtags and geographical tagging. Posts can be shared publicly or with pre-approved
followers. Users can browse other users' content by tags and locations and view
trending content. Users can like photos and follow other users to add their content to a
personal feed.
Originally launched for iOS in October 2010, Instagram rapidly gained popularity, with
one million registered users in two months, 10 million in a year, and 1 billion as of June
2018. The Android version was released in April 2012, followed by a feature-limited
desktop interface in November 2012, a Fire OS app in June 2014, and an app for
Windows 10 in October 2016. As of October 2015, over 40 billion photos had been
uploaded. Although praised for its influence, Instagram has been the subject of
criticism, most notably for policy and interface changes, allegations of censorship, and
illegal or improper content uploaded by users.

sharing social networking service created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. In April
2012.Instagram experienced a huge amount of growth in 2020. These Instagram
statistics prove just how valuable the network is to your business. As you plan your
Instagram marketing strategy for 2021, it’s important to know the latest facts about this
very popular social network. To make sure you’re working with the right information,
we’ve compiled all the most important Instagram stats you need to be aware of this
year.

Objective of the Project
Reports communicate information which has been compiled as a result of research and
analysis of data and of issues. Reports can cover a wide range of topics, but usually
focus on transmitting information with a clear purpose, to a specific audience. Good
reports are documents that are accurate, objective and complete. They should also be
well-written, clearly structured and expressed in a way that holds the reader's attention
and meets their expectations.
The true value of the research may be assessed through a report since the written report
may be the "only tangible product of hundreds of hours of work. Rightly or wrongly,
the quality and worth of that work are judged by the quality of the written report - its
clarity, organization and content" (Blake & Bly, 1993: 119). Often reports are
structured in a way that reflects the information finding process and the writing up of
the findings: that is, summary of the contents, introduction or background, methods,
results, discussion, conclusion and/or recommendations.
The inclusion of recommendations is one reason why reports are a common form of
writing in industry, as the informed recommendations are useful for decision making.
The top 10 searches include generic terms like weather and news. Facebook, Google,
YouTube, and Amazon also feature in the top 10, and all ahead of Instagram. But, again,
this is a great showing for Instagram since it is primarily accessed through an app. Since
Instagram is primarily a mobile platform, this stat bears more weight than website visits.
For active users of a mobile app, Instagram is outranked only by Facebook, WhatsApp,
and Facebook Messenger.
8
Introduction of Organization
Instagram is essentially a camera smartphone app with a social community built behind
it for sharing images. The app was purchased from its creators in 2012 by none other
than the world’s leading social media network, Facebook. Instagram was designed to
capitalize on the ever-improving technology crossover between smartphones and
photography. Year on year new mobile devices focus on their built-in camera functions
as a key selling point, mostly due to the increasing photo and short video-led world of
social sharing Instagram is the fastest growing social media platform in the world at
present
It has over a billion users worldwide (June 2018). Over 60% of users log in daily,
making the platform second only to Facebook in terms of engagement. The platform is
estimated to receive over 100 million new image uploads per day. Users engage via
comments or likes and the platform produces over 10,000 engagements every second.
Instagram has huge penetration with the tech savvy Millennial audience (18-30) who
are also the top online spending demographic. Health, beauty and fashion are dominant
categories within Instagram but travel and food are also very popular.
Instagram has added video functionality to their platform within the last 12 months.
This allows for videos (with sound) of up to 15 seconds to be used in place of an image.
As a brand, this means you can use Instagram with a greater range of creativity. You
can also use it to build a more personal connection with users. Some Instagram users
have earned celebrity status similar to that enjoyed by YouTube Vloggers (Video
Bloggers) showing just how powerful the platform can be and why it’s worth including
in your social media marketing plan. Many advertisers and brands connect with their
target audience on Instagram by directly earning follows through producing compelling
content. This is something that within reason can be achieved very simply at the cost
of a Smartphone and some artistic/photographic talent.
Paid-for advertising on Instagram is still brand new and only available to limited
brands, with a more public platform to be made available some time in 2016. When this
does become available Facebook has announced that paid-for advertising will be
minimal as they want the non-intrusive organic nature of the app to continue to shine
through.
At present the only way to generate clicks and traffic to your other online assets via
Instagram is a single link from your accounts home page.

Business Overview
Instagram is a popular social mobile app that is focused on sharing images and video.
For companies, you can share your day-to-day happenings and behind-the-scenes
moments of running your business. Instagram is mostly about sharing your own content
although you can “regram” or repost other people’s images as well.
Instagram now offers business profiles, and you can easily convert your current
personal account to business in Settings on the mobile app. Setting up a business profile
is advantageous for company’s because you can include a direct way for people to reach
you by adding your phone number, email, or location. You can also access analytics to
better measure your Instagram marketing results.
When you set up your business profile, Instagram pulls some information directly from
your company’s Facebook page – both should be linked. This includes your business
profile category so if you need to change it, do so in the Settings of your Facebook
Page. Double check your business profile Contact button to make sure you’re providing
the best way for people to contact your company.
Posting to Instagram
Instagram Stories is similar to Snapchat, the social mobile app where content is posted
and available on a temporary basis – for 24 hours – and then it disappears. The benefit
of using Stories is that it is immediate and perfect for spontaneous posting that gets
more interactions. The Stories feature appears at the top of the app, giving you more
visibility.
10
Using Hashtags
Hashtags are an important part of content for your Instagram captions. Most popular
social networks use hashtags to some degree. Hashtags are used to group together
similar content or to designate content as part of a specific online “event” such as
#MotivationMonday, #ThrowbackThursday or #FridayFeeling. On Instagram, using
popular hashtags such as #love and #photooftheday can help your content be found by
users.
Fill out your bio. Include a URL to your website but not necessarily your home page.
Link to a page within your website where you can more directly explain to fellow
Instagram users who you are and what you do or where you are running a promotion or
providing special content.
Establish your key messages. As with any marketing, start with your goals, the audience
you’re trying to reach and the actions you’d like them to do. Focus on messages you
can convey that don’t require clicking on a link to another web page for more details.
Or direct them to the link in your bio.
Come up with a look. Use consistent branding on some – but not all – of your images.
While you want to use visual clues to showcase your brand such as your logo, posting
to Instagram should be more genuine and less commercial. Choose a filter or set of
filters to use on images to help create a recognizable and cohesive look for your account.
Peel back the curtain. Take pictures behind the scenes to make your Instagram account
more intimate and personal. Tell the stories behind your company, products or services,
and your people. Give your followers an insider glimpse like the making of your wine
or your jewelry-making studio, not just the jewelry.
Upload more than one image at a time. Posting multiple times in a row may not be
acceptable on all social networks, but it is fine on Instagram. If you’re attending an
event, wait until you have several images that tell a strong story about the event and
post them one after another.
Instagram-style images and video attract attention and provide you with compelling
imagery for the rest of your social media marketing. Leverage distinctive Instagram
images on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and even LinkedIn, as appropriate.

Company History
Instagram began development in San Francisco as Burbn, a mobile check-in app created
by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Realizing that Burbn was too similar to
Foursquare, Systrom and Krieger refocused their app on photo-sharing, which had
become a popular feature among Burbn users. They renamed the app Instagram, a
portmanteau of "instant camera" and "telegram".
On March 5, 2010, Systrom closed a $500,000 seed funding round with Baseline
Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz while working on Burbn. Josh Riedel joined the
company in October as Community Manager, Shayne Sweeney joined in November as
an engineer, and Jessica Zollman joined as a Community Evangelist in August 2011.
The first Instagram post was a photo of South Beach Harbor at Pier 38, posted by Mike
Krieger at 5:26 PM on July 16, 2010. Systrom shared his first post, a picture of a dog
and his girlfriend's foot, a few hours later at 9:24 PM. It has been wrongly attributed as
the first Instagram photo due to the earlier letter of the alphabet in its URL. Better
source needed] On October 6, 2010, the Instagram iOS app was officially released
through the App Store.
In February 2011, it was reported that Instagram had raised $7 million in Series A
funding from a variety of investors, including Benchmark Capital, Jack Dorsey, Chris
Sacca (through Capital fund), and Adam D'Angelo. The deal valued Instagram at
around $20 million. In April 2012, Instagram raised $50 million from venture capitalists
with a $500 million valuation. Joshua Kushner was the second largest investor in
Instagram's Series B fundraising round, leading his investment firm, Thrive Capital, to
double its money after the sale to Facebook.2012–2014: Additional platforms and
acquisition by Facebook on April 3, 2012, Instagram released a version of its app for
Android phones, and it was downloaded more than one million times in less than one
day. The Android app has since received two significant updates: first, in March 2014,
which cut the file size of the app by half and added performance improvements; then in
April 2017, to add an offline mode that allows users to view and interact with content
without an Internet connection. At the time of the announcement, it was reported that
80% of Instagram's 600 million users are located outside the U.S., and while the
aforementioned functionality was live at its announcement, Instagram also announced
its intention to make more features available offline, and that they were "exploring an
iOS version”. On April 9, 2012, Facebook, Inc. bought Instagram for $1 billion in cash
and stock, with a plan to keep the company independently managed. Britain's Office of
Fair Trading approved the deal on August 14, 2012, and on August 22, 2012, the
Federal Trade Commission in the U.S. closed its investigation, allowing the deal to
proceed. On September 6, 2012, the deal between Instagram and Facebook officially
closed with a purchase price of $300 million in cash and 23 million shares of stock. The
deal closed just before Facebook's scheduled initial public offering according to CNN.
14
The deal price was compared to the $35 million Yahoo! paid for Flickr in 2005. Mark
Zuckerberg said Facebook was "committed to building and growing Instagram
independently." According to Wired, the deal netted Systrom $400 million. In
November 2012, Instagram launched website profiles, allowing anyone to see user
feeds from a web browser with limited functionality, as well as a selection of badges,
web widget buttons to link to profiles.
Since the app's launch it had used the Foursquare API technology to provide named
location tagging. In March 2014, Instagram started to test and switch the technology to
use Facebook Places 2015–2017: Redesign and Windows app
In June 2015, the desktop website user interface was redesigned to become flatter and
more minimalistic, but with more screen space for each photo and to resemble the
layout of Instagram's mobile website. Furthermore, one row of pictures only has three
instead of five photos to match the mobile layout. The slideshow banner on the top of
profile pages, which simultaneously slide-showed seven picture tiles of pictures posted
by the user, alternating at different times in a random order, has been removed. In
addition, the formerly angular profile pictures became circular. On May 11, 2016,
Instagram revamped its design, adding a black-and-white flat design theme for the app's
user interface, and a less skeuomorphistic, more abstract, "modern" and colorful icon.
Rumors of a redesign first started circulating in April, when The Verge received a
screenshot from a tipster, but at the time, an Instagram spokesperson simply told the
publication that it was only a concept.
On April 30, 2019, the Windows 10 Mobile app was discontinued, though the mobile
website remains available as a progressive web application (PWA) with limited
functionality. The app remains available on Windows 10 computers and tablets, also
updated to a PWA in 2020.

Achievements
Instagram was the runner-up for "Best Mobile App" at the 2010 TechCrunch
Crunchies in January 2011.
In May 2011, Fast Company listed CEO Kevin Systrom at number 66 in "The
100 Most Creative People in Business in 2011".
In June 2011, Inc. included co-founders Systrom and Krieger in its 2011 "30
Under 30" list.
Instagram won "Best Locally Made App" in the SF Weekly Web Awards in
September 2011.
7x7Magazine's September 2011 issue featured Systrom and Krieger on the
cover of their "The Hot 20 2011" issue.
In December 2011, Apple Inc. named Instagram the "App of the Year" for 2011.
In 2015, Instagram was named No. 1 by Mashable on its list of "The 100 best iPhone
apps of all time," noting Instagram as "one of the most influential social networks in
the world." Instagram was listed among Time's "50 Best Android Applications for
2013" list Instagram rose to fame within less than two months and had an immense
number of 1 million users by December 2010. Its success was, though a fast one, but
with no means, was it a short one as it still is thriving better than most and it has been
like this since Instagram made its debut.
Seeing this great potential, the company was acquired by Facebook in 2012, after which
its popularity went up like never before with a humongous number of 50 million users
on board. The deal was finalized in 1 billion dollars, which does not seem to be a bad
deal for Facebook at all.
In the coming years, the site kept developing and improving with new trends to follow,
setting some of its own while doing that.
Website profiles, filters for profiles, videos and photo sharing, all came along after it
got annexed by the social media giant, Facebook. With all its achievements, Instagram
also holds the title for being, if not the biggest, then one of the biggest, most renowned
and profitable platforms for product advertisement. Many startups have grown to
commendable heights with the aid of Instagram ads.

Technology Used in INSTAGRAM
RabbitMQ & Celery handle asynchronous tasks such as sending notifications to the
users & other system background processes.
RabbitMQ, on the other hand, is a popular open-source message broker written using
the AMQP Advanced Messaging Queuing Protocol.
Gearman is used to distribute tasks across several nodes in the system. Also, for
asynchronous task handling such as media uploads etc. It’s an application framework
for distributing tasks to other machines or processes that are more fit to execute those
particular tasks. It has a gamut of applications ranging from high available websites to
the transport of database backup events.
The main advantage of this technique is - it helps to collect the data easily. and it also
hep to sell or purchase the product.
20
Challenges Faced
Instagram’s business accounts show analytics that allow you to figure out the time when
most of your audience is online. Those times are when you need to post content to get
the most engagement possible. You can also use tools such as Icon square.
However, it is more than often that these timings clash with some other activities. These
Instagram problems can make it a frustrating task to polish the post and then upload it
at that exact same time.
And unlike Facebook, it is not possible to schedule a post on Instagram from the app
itself. However, there are several tools that can solve this Instagram problem
Buffer is a great app that not only simplifies Instagram but also other social media
platforms for you. It can help you weed out a lot of common Instagram problems.
Through this app, you can schedule multiple posts for the week with little effort. All
you need to do is select the image and enter the caption. All the hashtags can be added
right in the scheduler itself.
Later is an app that is specially dedicated to Instagram; it can help you solve loads of
Instagram problems. You can plan your entire feed to create a beautiful profile that can
catch the attention of viewers. To plan your content in a better manner, it has a visual
content calendar. This will allow you to schedule your posts with insights on when they
will be published.
If you have a business profile, the app supports the auto-publish function as well. So,
you don’t need to wait for any notification to tap and then publish it manually. The app
does all the work for you. It’s an easy remedy for many Instagram problems.
21
LIMITATIONS
The daily limit is 200 a day. 10 follows and unfollows per hour would keep your
account safe and saves your account from being suspended. Also, there is no limit on
how many people can follow you.
Remember to start slow and then gradually increase the number of following and
unfollowing week by week. The maximum number is 1000 a day. But it is not the same
for all Instagram users. In order to keep your account safe and not locked out, you
should be satisfied with less than 700 likes per day.
It is about 180 to 200 per day. Don’t post the same comment over and over. Instagram
recognizes duplicate comments, and it would punish your account for what you did.
And don’t leave emojis without text as a comment, they look like spam.
Choosing the right hashtag would capture people’s attention, and you’ll get more Likes
and Followers. But don’t overuse them. You should use up to 30 hashtags per post.
The story limitation is for users who share too many stories. You can add up to 100
stories.
22
Conclusion
By doing this assignment, it helps me to understand more about multimedia database
in applications especially in Instagram which is a popular application among the
teenagers nowadays. Instagram will continue becoming the number one photo sharing
application if it continues giving good services to the users. Furthermore, it will further
prove that multimedia elements in database are very useful to applications despite the
disadvantages. I sincerely hope that Instagram will continue improving their services
to attract more users and maintain as number 1 photo sharing application. Everything
has their own pros and cons including having Multimedia Database in Instagram
application. It will take up a long time to transfer data and loading time will be longer.
Sometimes, users will experience lag while using Instagram. Users will become
frustrated with it because loading time is very slow. That will cause challenge in real
time as video and audio are not in sequence and will confuse users. Users will get stalk
and their information is vulnerable to strangers. Sometimes, the app is really not stable
and it requires time to be fully functional. For example, the location service in
Instagram will show where are you when you post your picture if user forget to off it
or revealing too much information in images and videos. People can easily steal
information based on the location service. This is very dangerous as other people with
bad intentions might have opportunities to do bad things to user like kidnapping. The
size of multimedia data in database will make impact to the storage, retrieval and
transmission of multimedia which might cause data lost. For example, video in
Instagram will cause the quality of the video to decrease. Well, it requires a lot of time
and cost for the multimedia database for Instagram's developers.
They need to overcome their weaknesses and threats and instead focus on the strengths
to ensure that they can achieve required objectives in a given challenging environment.
Further, the role of the top-level management, the HR department, and the marketing
and the operations team are important as they will be defining new road-map and new
strategies. However, they need to inform the employees and train them on the new work
approaches and new work modules. They also need to be trained on the aspects of
change management to overcome the internal resistance and thereby focus on achieving
new objectives of the organization. Only then INSTAGRAM will be able to achieve
desired success in a given working environment.

Bibliography
A bibliography is a list of all of the sources you have used (whether referenced or not)
in the process of researching your work. In general, a bibliography should include: the
authors' names. the titles of the works. the names and locations of the companies that
published your copies of the sources.
